  1. I didn't know you could transfer DV25 over USB(2). What cameras support this? From what I've seen, the only video that can be transfered over USB is the poor quality video that the camera had already saved to the memory-chip....? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. Whenever I receive a notice like this I always confirm the authenticity of the notice before giving anyone my CC#. It seems like you've already done it, but I would have confirmed the telephone number in the email matches the telephone number on aol's website. If they were different, I would have called the main AOL phone number and gone from there. This is a very popular scam, especially with paypal. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. It's true. I converted craichead into a fan of Atom Egoyan and Deny Arcand. It wasn't hard, the quality of these films seem to be inversely related to their small budget. Most come in under 1 million. In addition to the ones craichead mentioned, a very good flic by Denys Arcand is Love & Human Remains. I'd also add to my list of great independent international film all the work by Francois Girard. His most famous film so far is The Red Violin Many of these films will not leave you with a warm and happy fuzzy feeling. Most good films do not. Most of these will usually force you to question and discuss some very tightly held beliefs. This is especially true for those by Denys Arcand. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. I get the Network Solutions page, too. It makes sense that some people still work, especially people who've recently visited the site before it was broken. The technical explanation is... technical. DNS information is cached, which means that it'll work for a short period of time until database values "expire", at which point your local copy will try to refresh itself against the master database, the master database won't find a copy and you'll get an error page. Sunpath needs to renew their domain name. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. If you can make it to our place, we can give you a ride there. I should be home by 5:30. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. The way that some people around here talk, death, dismemberment, and broken femurs are to be expected too, and a normal part of skydiving. Are they not "incidents", too? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. Unibroue - the most evil beer company, ever. We broke into a bottle of "Terrible" a few weeks ago. My god that was good. It's tough to find in Chicago, but it is available. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. I am not a rigger. From what I can see, one scenario is that it would effectively shorten the 3-ring closing loop, which will alter how the 3-rings will sit while under tension. Since the changes are only on one side, this will load the risers differently during deployment, contributing to a possible spinning malfunction. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. I think it depends on the meds, and on the person. When I had my screwed up ankle, I can honestly tell you that while the vicodin was a great pain relever, it didn't have any of the reported "side effects". It didn't make me woozy or tired. I regularly drove my car. If I had heavy machinery, I probably would have operated it. I didn't skydive, because the idea of skydiving with a freshly broken ankle didn't particularly appeal to me. That said, if I was taking the same medication for something that wasn't as critical to skydiving as my ankle was, I would not instantly rule it out. The drugs simply didn't affect me in a way that hindered my performance. Drugs affect everybody differently. While blanket rules might be a good starting point, they aren't 100% accurate. I would much rather somebody jump in the state that I was in when I was on vicodin, then while drunk, stoned on weed, or hungover - all of which are not exceedingly rare events. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  11. Allow me to break the mold. My DZ is affilated with Merlin suits, and they push them hard. I've often complained about them being extremely slow, they took nearly four monthes to make my camera suit. I've also got a Merlin freefly suit, and its falling apart. Literally. Really quite disapointing... I've got a new Tony Suit on order. It should be here in a week, less then 6 weeks after I ordered it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. I love the atkins diet. Sunday me and craichead went shopping, and stopped for lunch. I had a big ole plate of fried chicken and mac&cheese. I skipped the bun because I knew it was unhealthy. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. 1) Plug camera one and two togeather. Set both cameras to VCR mode. Camera one presses play. Camera two presses record. Both cameras display the footage. 2) It depends on your cameras. Some of the cheaper Sony DV cameras do not have "DV-In" capabilities. If yours does, try using "file / export / print to tape". There's a checkbox to start the recording on the camera automatically, otherwise you'll have to hit record on the camera. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  15. I don't know what business your in, nor do I know the intricacies of your business relationships.... That said, i've had "business relationships" for years, and that relatioship has almost always been well lubricated with alcohol. Why is this such an issue? Are your parties particularly degenerate, or are your business associates particularly stiff? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. To be quite honest, I'm really quite resentful of people that get sponsorships. Contrary to the intent, generally I'm LESS likely to buy from manufacturers who're heavily into sponsorship. I simply do not understand why a guy who busts his ass just as much as I do gets bags of free stuff, while I have to pay full price. I would be much happier if instead of giving gear to skygods, manufacturers would instead give or heavily discount gear to student programs. I can name at least 5 DZ's I've been to where the student gear is at least 20 years old - and I don't even travel that much. There simply is no excuse for a DZ to be jumping sweethogs with FXC's when the latest "hot shit 4-way" is jumping the latest top of the line toy for no charge. Manufacturers need to get their priorities striaght. Even from a business sense, I would think if students are jumping good new gear during their progression, they'd be likely to buy that same brand of gear once their off student status. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    WTFO?

There has GOT to be more to the story than as posted. That said, 25 gusting to 30 is way more than I'd be jumping in... Anyone who jumps in winds that high is asking for trouble. Sounds like your DZO might'v even had a point... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  21. Well, that was ugly... I used Microsoft Media Encoder to make it a .wmv, then I used Soik Video Converter to turn it into a .avi. Then I used Premiere to firewire it to my pc120. It looks like crap, but it's viewable. Paul and Frank, thanks for the tips. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    Hockey Fights

Heather wrote: Fine. Lets arrest all the boxers. I think a lot of people would complain, though. If all you're trying to do is get violence out of the media, then get the NHL or the government to change the rules. Until then, it's not criminal. lawrocket wrote: Well, you were talking about consent. Hockey players unanimously consent to being "victims" of cheap shots. This makes them no different then boxers, who also unanimously consent to being "victims". It *IS* what they signed up for. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. The best I could find was Stoik video convertor, but it wouldn't read the file. I couldn't find anything called Stoik video encoder... Also, I can't even seem to get on Apple's quicktime site. Anyone else got suggestions? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. There's a guy in Chicagoland shooting with the JVC... I haven't seen him since the fall, but he was still using it. I think right now its still more trouble then its worth, because it does create a lot of hassles. Your tapes won't play in non hdtv cameras, you can't firewire to other cameras, etc. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. The camera is brand new, so its unlikely that you'll find anyone here who knows much about them, other then what we read on www.sonystyle.com. That alone may be the best reason to get the 105. That said, what concerns me is that they've moved all the ports to the base unit. Generally all of the Sony PC-1XX cameras work well in skydiving, but I would make sure they didn't also move the LANC port off the camera itseself. That would suck. I can't imagine they'd do that... but who knows? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
