Very nice. What would really be cool is if all the smaller pictures were skydiving related. "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ~Samuel Clemens MB#4300 Dudeist Skydiver #68

I don't have a problem supporting her (within reason) but that should be done in the form of alimoney, either permanant or short term. Neither do I have a problem splitting marital assets. However, military retirement income is a benefit of service. I didn't take away from my family to invest in it so why should she benefit? Q: A person does say 8 yrs in the military with the intent to make it a career. Marries. Divorces 7 years later. 6 yrs later, retires with 21 yrs of service. Ex-spouse is entitled to a percentage of the retirement income, even if no alimoney was awarded in the divorce and even if they get remarried. This is right? "Always do right. She gave up working for about 1/2 the marriage and I still give her $1200.00 a month in alimoney. She had a 5 yr old that I adopted and raised and we had one son together. They are grown and gone now. She didn't give up much while I was on all those deployments. I got my allowance on deployment and she stayed home and didn't work, but had no trouble not saving any money. She finally decided to go to work and wound up a bank teller then loan officer. I always made about 85% of the total income even when she did work. I just don't see why I have to suffer for giving the military 23+ years of my life. If this started happening to more female retirees, I bet the law would change. "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ~Samuel Clemens MB#4300 Dudeist Skydiver #68

So it's OK that I devoted my adult life to this career, essentially taking myself out of the running for a decent civillian career (too old per some people) and now have to support her because she wanted to leave? BTW, she has no retirement that I can tap later in life. The house? She didn't work for 2 of the 3 years we owned it, but I gave her half anyway. I paid all of her roth IRA (that she has since cashed out of). etc, etc, etc... it goes on and on. "Always do right. This is B/S: Long story shortened: I am a career military person who was married for 18 years. My ex-wife decided it was over and left. I wasn't all that tore up about it but hurt none the less as 18 yrs is a long time and hard to give up. Now, because of the "former militay spouse protection act", I will be giving up nearly 50% of my military retirement to her. TOTAL B/S! I give her alimoney (1,200.00 a mo), I gave her everything she wanted from the relationship, I even had to sell our house and give her 1/2 the profit, now this. I always figured I would stay military for as long as they would allow me too (23 yrs so far) but now I have to get out and find another job as I can't afford to live on 1/2 of my retirement. BTW, the supreme court ruled that military retirement IS NOT divisable by state courts but Congress passed a law (retroactively dated one day prior to the SC ruling) saying it is considered mutual property and is divisable. WTF? I don't remember her being out to sea for all that time or going through all the hell I had to endure in my early enlisted days. Ex deserves alimoney per the court because she couldn't establish a career due to moves every three years? fine by me. 1/2 my retirement (even if she remarries)? How is this even remotely fair? Nice! I grew up in New England and really miss the fall colors. This year, trying to catch it in full bloom in western (not west) Virginia's Shenendoa Mountains. Nice 110 mile bike ride on Skyline drive. One of Natures most awesome shows, I can't wait. "Always do right. Awesome! Good for you. Just one question. Why do folks with these awesome car audio systems feel the need to demonstrate the power (while wearing ear plugs) of their systems while sitting next to me at stop lights? I get it... you have a rolling woofer. Can you turn it down now? OK, that was 2 questions. Good for you though, I do appreciate good audio. "Always do right. IMO... No, pay half if person declines rig. You send and pay, they send back and pay. Use rigger at sale DZ as intermediary. Yes, Most Definately Paypal.. A must use Ask person who wants gear for DZ and riggers info and contact them to make arrangements before shipping gear. Most DZO's and/or riggers are cool about mediating transactions. They can inspect the gear for buyer and don't give up the goods until you tell them you have been paid. Good luck and sorry your getting the use of the gear yourself. "Always do right. Ever notice the lack of oxygen up there? There are rules for having to have supplemental oxygen available for all above certain altitudes 15K I believe, a pilot can answer better but that's the reason... no O2. "Always do right. From where I'm sitting, just being able to run a marathon (or 18.4 miles for hat matter) is a huge acomplishment and a testament to your will to run. Some of us just were not built to run fast, a realization that hit me after watching the Kenyan's go by me in the opposite direction during my first half. Remember why you run and enjoy it, don't get down on yourself for not being as fast as you want to be. (jeez, listen to me... one half marathon and i'm giving YOU advise... Sorry) I just turned 41 and am just now discovering the joy of running. Have you forgotten? "Always do right. If it's Yahoo or any other international mail service, try going to a foreign server i.e. yahoo.uk or .au and access your mail like normal. Steve Fossett is missing and a search is under way
SARLDO replied to skyjumpsteve's topic in The Bonfire
True, but if there was a fire, assuming he has crashed, and given the dry state of the terrain right now, one would only have to proceed to the edge of the wild fire still burning to find the source (i.e. the aircraft) "Always do right. More often than not, there is no fire upon impact with light General Aviation aircraft. "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ~Samuel Clemens MB#4300 Dudeist Skydiver #68 -

Steve Fossett is missing and a search is under way
SARLDO replied to skyjumpsteve's topic in The Bonfire
Well, given the topograpgy of that area of Nevada, there are not too many dry lake beds capable of supporting a land speed record (too short). Therefore, I would have to imagine that given Mr. Fossett's intelligence, he would have reviewed some maps and was looking at specific terrain and not really just blindly looking for a dry lake bed. Make sense? "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ~Samuel Clemens MB#4300 Dudeist Skydiver #68 -

SARLDO replied to skyjumpsteve's topic in The Bonfire
What for? Ok he files a flight plan. He is reported to be doing a scouting mission. So he doesnt follow the flight plan making it pretty much useless. I have flown many times without a flight plan. Just because you file one doesnt mean help will be on the way the second something foes wrong. True, but having spent days at a time in the Sierra's looking for small aircraft that have gone down, I can tell you from experience that if we had known at least an approximate route of travel, we might have found some of them to have done some good (other than giving the family the body back). Searching a 400 sq mile area of rough terrain is like looking for a single flea on a dog, a really big, black dog. Don't file, that's fine, but at least point out your planned route of travel with somebody on the ground. Your life may depend on it. "Always do right. Folks, if you fly, file a flight plan. Not a big deal tooling around VFR in suburbia because somebody is going to notice you putting it down off an airfield. Out and around the wilderness, different story. Even with an ELT, in mountainous/tree covered terrrain, you have to be right on top of a downed light aircraft to see it. You may survive the impact but 2 or more days in the hills without survival gear will not be good. File a plan and stick to it please, even if it's on a paper napkin handed to the fuel truck guy as you strap in. This goes for you hikers too. Tell more than one person where your going and stick to the route. "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ~Samuel Clemens MB#4300 Dudeist Skydiver #68 -

If Fallon SAR (I was a crewman there for 3.5 years) is involved, they likey have a beacon going off and/or technnical rescue underway. These things usually don't turn out too well but we can hope for the best possible outcome. "Always do right. I finally did it. 40 yrs old and pack a day smoker just a year ago and I finished my 1st 1/2 marathon yesterday. I was going for 2 hours (i'm not very fast) but didn't make it. I was on pace for a while but my knee started hurting and I felt it better to slow down than face an injury. Managed to finish in 2 hrs, 16 min, 44 sec. I'm not unhappy with myself right now. One week off and start training for the next. "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ~Samuel Clemens MB#4300 Dudeist Skydiver #68
