here's a better thought- dont do anything STUPID once you have one- ie, financial problems, dui's, drugs, etc. i've known a few who screwed themselves that way. no fun for them. not that anyone intends to do that, but just be careful
-
i'm waiting (and waiting and waiting and waiting) for mine to come through... definately dont let it expire, cause it takes forever to get it done again. good luck and happy hunting
-
ok. i'm sufficiently confused

OK.. so.. anyone ever had an idea they wanted to submit as an invention? do you have to actually have an invention or can you just have a great idea that you want someone to make into a product? and/or has anyone ever done somethin like that? or know what steps to take to do somethin like that?

going in country to a place that speaks the language... or enlisting in the military and spending 63 weeks in monterey where all you do for 7 hours a day and 2 hours of study hall 2 nights a week and homework and etc etc... its not any easier, but you're forced to learn it! I was dying while i was there, arabic made my head hurt! but i'm already thinkin i'll probably try to go back in a few years for another language:)

wow.. okay. so i tried to limit myself to just a few of my faves.. but yeah.. to kill a mockingbird, and where the red fern grows are two classics that i just love. I also love Dan Brown, David Baldacci, Lee Child, and yeah... pretty much the list goes on and on. I've always been a bit of a reader, but when I was actively flying as a flight attendant, i'd read one to three books a week... then I had to cut back to study arabic, and now it seems i'm makin up for lost time thanks for those suggestions... i'll definately check out a few of those! i love just goin down to goodwill and seeing how many paperbacks and hardbound books i can get for 1.50 or 3bucks:)

yes they are yummy! We had cookery and immersion days when i was at language school and our teachers would prepare all kinds of middle eastern food... dolmas is delicious! (or Lathethe jiddan!)

So another post made me think of my favorite books... and if i had to list like my top 5, they'd be: ~ My Sister's Keeper -Jodi Picoult (and just about every other book she has written to boot!) ~The Kite Runner- Khaled Hosseini not an easy feel good read-but one that should be read. His new book A Thousand Splendid Suns is great too-a look of afghanistan from the female perspective ~The Lovely Bones- Alice Seabold I can only hope my heaven is like that. Her memoir Lucky is also good ~A Million Little Pieces-James Frey. So what if its partially fabricated. its an incredible look into a different life. ~Harry Potter- all of em.. and yeah.. i'm goin crazy waitin for 7. OK. so thats like 5 authors- few extra books... I'll read just about anything if i've got time-so. any suggestions or reccomendations?

No idea how painful it is... but the subject of donating blood/marrow/organs reminds me of one of my favorite books- My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Piccoult. would you deny your own sister an organ if it meant saving her life? the book is written in the first person from several main characters in the book, so you feel you understand it from their point of view. its sometimes hard to read, but definately one of my top 5

Holy Tamale this has been a long time coming... but I finally finished and signed off on everything for my A card. I've had most of it filled out for several months-but never got around to actually finishing up the little things! And it couldnt have come at a better time... I'm leavin next friday for new adventures in new places!! Cant wait to jump anywhere and everwhere now:) i'll miss you all at SMB... but i'm hoping i'll be stupid enough to think i can learn another language sometime, and spend another 63 weeks or so with you!! thanks for the memories!!!

What Made You Start Skydiving?
enflyt replied to Kiakambala's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Grew up down the street from Perris, and used to love hanging out at the bomb shelter or out by the pool watching people land. Swore I was gonna do it on my 18th birthday, and, thanks to mom, I did. and absolutely loved it! Took me 7 years to get enough money (read; used up credit cards) and time in one location to do AFF, which I did last year. Now I just need to win the lotto or something so I can get my own gear and jump more:) -
stupid question, but can you jump in snow though? like-not when its actually snowing.. but.... yeah. can you can you?
-
I got addicted a little too late... just finished up season 2 a few weeks ago. Cant wait till this season comes out on dvd so i can see whats been goin on!
-
sweet! I'll definately check them both out... Is there a 'season' then in salt lake?? being mostly a cali girl-i dont really know what snow does to the skydiving scene.

Well.. I've got just under a month left in the Monterey area, where I'll leave behind the King Air at SMB and head off to Salt Lake City, UT. I've heard there are a few DZ's out that way.. but anyone from any of them? I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.. lived a lot of places in a lot of states... but this is a first for me. Anyhow.. gonna try to get in as many jumps as good weather and pay can afford before I make the move... but i'd love to talk to some folks from that area before I get there :)

AAHHHH definate articles, nouns in construct, verbal vs nominal sentances.... It took 63 weeks of Arabic to learn what these things mean in English. But now I'm so confused I cant say things correctly in either language. However, the Cali girl in me will always use 'THE 405 to THE 5', because it does just sound better:)

There's Glen Eden Sun Club, just up the 15freeway, a nudist colony not to be confused with Glen Ivy Hot Springs, right next door, which is a really nice day spa. I guess when I think of european, i think of all that money I spent on a cute bathing suit top one time, only to find out they dont much use tops in Europe. oh well.

I took my AFF in Monterey last year, just about this time.. The rainy season is kind of upon us, but it has been rather nice. The key is, to get out early in the day and not wait for the cloud cover that comes a lot in the afternoon or the high winds that take it away. Pretty low key DZ-mostly tandems and a few of us fun jumpers on weekends. The plus side is that standard altitude is 15k and they offer jumps to 18k, and it is the most beautiful DZ ever-with a great view of the bay. I'll only be here another month and then i'm off to Utah for a year, but its been great. Good luck, wherever you jump, and blue skies!

Hi all... I'm leavin beautiful Monterey here in a about a month and a half and will be in San Angelo, TX for a bit of time. Wondering if there are any dropzones not posted on here and, or, which one is the closest to it! After that... its Salt Lake City that I'll call home for about a year... where's the best place to land and call home?? Thanks ~Hilary

Looking for opinions-everyones got one.. whats the best!
enflyt replied to enflyt's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ok.. So... 21 Jumps later, I'm dying for my own gear. And it looks like its finally gonna happen... But now, I'm trying to figure out what to get and where. Problem is every time I ask a fellow skydiver what they think I need/should get... i get a million different answers- Buy new- buy used 7 cell vs 9 cell all the extras vs standard stuff Brands- Anyhow... as you can see.. i'm new, confused, but eager to get my own stuff.. Any personal opinions on what I absolutely have to have, and what I should completely avoid?? Thanks a billion
