  1. wow. i definately like some of the guys changes to jail operations... the educational only tv shows.. and english classes, high school educations and drug rehab program. The pink underwear and handcuff thing is pretty amusing as well. I cant imagine living in a tent in phoenix in the middle of a summer-but wow. thats one way to make sure the folks dont want to come back! And allowing the inmates to work I think is a great idea. We have some that do the maintanence and housekeeping type stuff at my work... good to know that at least some of these folks will have some skills when they get out.
  2. Glad you bumped it! That stuff really is too freakin cute. haha
  3. hey.. go dog go is a great book. but i've come a little farther down the road than that. However, I love reading kids books translated into arabic. The Franklin series (about the turtle) is hilarious. even more so in another language.
  4. When I was in school, I didnt really get too much into books myself. Sad to say, most of the assigned readings ended up being movies or cliffnoted books i could read instead :P ironically, some of those books that I wouldnt touch in school turned out to be among my favorites now. I'm a total bookworm-read usually 2-3 books a week on average, depending on what else is going on in my life. So.. I guess there's always hope that as long as these kids are literate, maybe they'll get into it when they get older.
  5. wow! Thanks for posting that! I think I'm gonna miss most of the shopping this year... but i still LOVE looking at all the ads and checking out what I would buy if i were there :) Happy shopping!!
  6. its the same thing with Arab cultures. They feel its offensive to say no to you, so, they'll answer "Insha allah" or "god willing" to everything. They'll say that even if they have no intention of doing what you're asking, because its rude to just flat out say no. And... generosity is HUGE with most Arabs. Dont compliment them on any material things, cause then they'll try to give it to you. And definately dont ask specifically how their wife is doing, because thats uber bad manners. Instead ask generally how the family is doing. K. done with my tangent now... but as for jails... I think they need to be a lot less cozy, maybe less TV and gym equipment.... but at the same time, spend some money on actualy rehabbing these folks. I cant imagine what it would be like to be trapped in a time warp, and then to come out 10 or 15 years later and have absolutely no clue whats going on in the world now. Then again, I dont have a solution to fix the problem, so... yeah. oh well.

    Illuminati?

yeah.. some of these videos are a little dry-and the voice of the girl who narrates the story can be a little annoying at times... but some of the stuff they claim is so crazy! And.. I dont think that Illuminati and Freemasons are the same group-but a lot of freemasons are illuminati-if that makes sense. I really dont know a whole lot about it either... was just talkin to a friend the other day and he said to check out the videos.. I'm gonna finish watching them all before I make a complete opinion on it all....
  8. Yep.. one of the cargo bins on the aircraft can be pressurized, and typically, they're not going to load fluffy under tons of bags either as long as they know he's there.. Still a dark and not very comfy ride, I feel bad for those pets. But you should never ever ever pack your pets, laptop, jewlery, other valuables, and especially never pack car/house keys and medication in your checked luggage. Cause you know when you do... thats the time your bags will get mistagged, sent to the wrong airport, crushed, etc etc.

    Illuminati?

OK.. so I looked back in the search section and I saw a few threads on it.. but i'm wondering if anyone has been bored enough to spend a few hours watching the 31 10minute installments on youtube about them. They've got some pretty interesting religious "facts" about everything from what the arc of the covenant is, the 'true' names/identities of biblical figures like Abraham, Moses, etc, AND who Jesus really was (son of cleopatra and julius cesar)and they go ahead and explain where Christ was during those lost years. Then it gets into all the financial corruption, the war conspiracies, and all kinds of interesting stuff. I'm about halfway through the 31episodes. Dont know how much of it I believe, if any of it.. but it is kind of interesting to hear what people think is really goin on. So anyhow... here's the link for the first video... Each one is like 10minutes...The first few are kinda boring..but there's a pretty funny South Park clip in it. episodes like 4-7 give the biblical explinations.. which get kind of interesting. http://youtube.com/watch?v=amLDfAMnLVc&feature=related So yeah. Anyone else seen this or have any thoughts on it?
  10. OK.. so here's the deal, a little clearer i guess.. I'm currently renting an Apartment... from an apartment community. I am in the military, have been gone more than I've been in this apartment, and I found someone who is looking for a furnished place... so I figured while I'm on my next 'deployment' for a month, she-or someone can stay here, and pay me rent, so that I'm not wasting my Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) on an apartment that I'm not living in. So... Kinda like a roommate... except that I wont be here. I'll be experiencing the wonders and joys of Survival school up in washington for a month. I guess I could go ask my leasing manager what it would take, but this would be a very temporary, short term thing-like a month or two. I dont think I want her on the lease... but maybe I should do just that. I really dont know. hmmpphh. thanks for the suggestions to everyone so far.. if anyone has anything else to add with this new info, please lemmie know:) thanks
  11. So... Instead of wasting all my BAH and instead of moving yet again, I'm going to try to sublet out my apartment for a while... I have someone coming over tonight to see if it would work out for her.. but what kind of papers do I need to have her sign and/or what do I do to make sure that she's not crazy and doesnt try to sell off all my furniture or burn the place down while I'm gone? I dont really think she's going to do that... but..... what if?
  12. Wow! Thats pretty awesome. I liked the flutterbye. And i think its great that they donate the cans after!
  13. we just got the flu mist a few weeks ago. nothin like snortin a live virus (although weakened) up your nose. its soooo gross. And then you get to feel it draining down your throat with that sickly sweet taste to it... yuck. this time, almost all of us got scratchy throats and such within a few days. nothin too bad for me. last year was worse though. oh well.
  14. oh yeah. I went with some friends one time who are members. I'd been going to disneyland for years and didnt know the place existed. But the food was delicious, the drinks were great, and yeah. it felt cool being 'backstage'
  15. I pretty much sucked again this weekend. Its so hard to run at the altitude here in salt lake. I'm still not used to it. But.. I leave on monday for some training in Florida for a week, and then I'll be in texas for a month where I've already promised myself i'd be workin out daily with my old roomie. I've gotta work my way up to lugging a 60-80lb pack around too, I have survival school to get through the end of november. (if all else fails, i know that i'll lose weight that month!) speaking of which.... any suggestions as to what to carry around to get used to 60lbs?
  16. I agree with ALL of these.. but have to add another one... The Tiki Room! Its so so so silly, you almost have to go to it. I think it was like the first attempt at making inanimate objects 'alive' and well yeah. You should go. Its hokey, but fun.. And, if you decide to skip the 'attraction' at least eat a Dole Pinapple Whip ice cream, which they sell out front of the attraction. Its seriously the BEST freakin ice cream/frozen yogurt (not sure which) in the World! MMMMm
  17. One year, when I was v ery young.. my mom decided to make me a 'bunch of grapes'. I had on a green body suit and green tights and a crown of grape leaves on my head.. and then we had a whole bunch of green balloons that she attatched with safety pins. Things were looking great till we ran out of green balloons. So we ran to the store, and for some reason, the only balloons they had were the green grenade water balloons-and she assured me no one would notice. WELL.. they did. So at the little school festival they were having.. boys kept coming up and popping the grenade balloons. It sucked. But i did win first place-grenades and all:)
  18. K. so is Carbon Monoxide the same thing as natural gas? or a bi-product of it? or something totally different?? and is helium toxic? all those balloons we'd inhale to talk funny!
  19. So... its odorless, but they add an odor so you can detect it? So.. one could smell a CO leak and it would smell like gas which is also odorless but has a smell anyways? I'm confused. but yeah. i'm very excited about this detector.. if they dont get it to me soon, i'll just buy one.
  20. NO idea where any of that is in relation to where i'll be going (pensacola). Dont think i'll have much time to jump, but I will get to do a little parasailing and then canopy riding into the water!
  21. doesnt it have a faint natural gas smell? or what is that?
  22. I'm geographically challenged.. but i'll be in Pensacola next week.. so hello a little early
  23. Alright folks.. the weathers cooling off and the heaters will be coming on... this is a friendly reminder to check your heaters, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. I just moved into this apartment a few months ago, and decided to have the maintenance guys look at my fireplace to make sure I didnt burn the house down. I'm not a big fan of using a heater-it costs money.. But, while waiting for the guy to show up, I turned it on. It smelled pretty strong-I figured its cause it hadnt been on for months and the smell would go away in a little while. Well.. The guy shows up and kinda makes a B-line for the utilty closet, and he discovers that the panel for my heater was not on correctly, thus, carbon monoxide was leaking out. I'd been in the apartment so I couldnt smell it. He "fixed" it, and promised to order me a carbon monoxide detector to put in along with the smoke detector-but there's no way i'm using the heater again till then! So yeah. Check those heaters, fireplaces, smoke alarms and all that jazz... I'm just so glad I got cold early and turned the darn thing on before that guy got here, or else I might not have noticed.
  24. So how does one join this cool little club? Because I seem to not be able to do it on my own, much to my dismay. I gained about 25lbs in a little over a year while I was studying arabic... and its soo hard to get anything to come off. AND, I did a PT eval last week that i Totally sucked at... kinda my very late wake up call. I'm great at team stuff-and I can do miraculous things when I have someone screaming at me (basic training for example) but left to my own devices, there always seems to be a million things I have to do instead of working out, and if i have only healthy food in my apartment, then I usually just go out. So... really. how do i become a member? Cause i wanna be down 22lbs! Heck, I want to be down 50, but I'll take whatever I can get! I also Really need to get to working out again pretty seriously pretty soon. I have survival school that just might kill me coming up in december.
