So who's watching the start of the Olympics tonight?
pbwing replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
I really enjoyed the ceremonies. But the thing that drives me absolutely crazy is the lip singing. Everything before KD Lang (she's awesome!!) was not live. I understand that there would be volume and timing issues, but it still drives to mad!! I particulary enjoyed the opera singer who sang as they raised the Olympic flag. Nice touch on lowering both flags after that for the Georgian luger. Biggest cheer of all?? When they announced #4 Bobby Orr!!!! Classically Canadian!! Let the Games begin!! Welcome everyone and good luck! -
I don't know about that... I would think that the skis would cause some serious drag...
-
Trying to get back (somewhat) to the original theme of the thread, I did hear of an interesting candidate to light the Olympic flame... Betty Fox - Terry Fox's mother. Somewhat of a final finish to his Marathon of Hope.
-
That's fine. You know, not everything has to be about 'right' and 'left'. The world is a far better place when we can step outside those self imposed limitations...
-
Well if it would shut up the whiny Liberals and their publicly funded media for just two weeks... I guess that answers my original question.
-
True, But I'm pretty sure I got all the bugs worked out on the first two...I'll have it all figured out by the time #3 comes around!!!
-
Yes and that is EXACTLY why John was nominating Dallaire.... Can you put aside your disdain for Liberals just long enough to see what John is saying? Can you understand why maybe, just maybe he might be a good candidate? Does the fact that he is a Liberal senator completely diminish what he accomplished up until that point? C'mon...

Great. Where were you with that advice 2 marriages ago?!??!

Arnprior normally starts some jumping in April with everything in full swing starting May 1st.

Hey, There was a thread a year or so ago about the pond in Raeford. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3423693;page=1;mh=-1;;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC There was some good photos and maybe some contact info in there. That thing is a monster!!

I didn't read the article, but I'm guessing he died from lead poisoning...

What a tease!

Are you seriously quoting ABFreedom as a some sort of authoritative source on climate change - or anything else for that matter?? The group (World Glacier Monitoring Service)that pointed out the error in the report is not saying anything about the glaciers are not melting. In fact, in their last report, they have indicated that glacial mass continues to decrease. WGMS is merely pointing out that the science in the report was flawed, not that AGW doesn't exist.

I'm thinking money changers. He really went off on those fuckers when they were in temple that one day...

Not that it's a big deal, but it was Pascrell, not Mitchell... -

So what's it going to be? I'm guessing it will move to 4 minutes. I've been looking, but I can't find the Vegas odds on this one

Since the BAS was founded by those who were part of the Manhattan Project, obviously their focus was primarily on the threat that the types of weapons they developed could pose to the world. Do you think that since the BAS has included other issues (such as biosecurity, civilian nuclear development and climate change), it has somewhat 'muddied' the true meaning of the Doomsday Clock? Are there too many factors to make it the indicator it once was?
-
Nice job dude!! I especially like the music you picked for the soundtracks. Nicely done.
-
True. But that's a far cry from outright clashes in Kashmir and testing nuclear weapons. Even with Mumbai and some minor sabre rattling, the relations have taken a back burner to Pakistan's issues in their western frontier.
-
It's interesting that 2 of the event speakers are from India and Pakistan. Will that be the center point of the move? Does the BAS feel that Indo-Pakistani relations have improved since the last move of the clock? The last move was contributed to Iran and North Korea as well as climate change. What has changed since 2007 that has precipitated the move on Thursday?
