I think you need a mulligan so you can get it on video. I'd like to see your boss' face! TPM Sister #102

Wing tunnels, The BPA = Goodbye 2 skydiving
Jewels replied to crashtested's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have around 60 jumps, what you think i'm free flying or flat flying???? I'm not sure that I'm interpreting your post correctly, but it sounds as though you are implying that with only 60 jumps, you'd obviously be belly flying. I'll just take this opportunity to point out that if you had combined your experience with some tunnel time, you could be free flying by now. TPM Sister #102 -
I had an epiphany about this today. I was using Google Earth for work and decided to look up our local dz. As I was zooming in and out on the runway, I looked at my screen and thought, "Hmmm, that looks WELL over 12,500' AGL. I wonder what altitude that would be?" I don't know when it happened, but I think that's strong evidence for leaving my Whuffo taint behind. TPM Sister #102

I love my Swingline. It never jams. I did, however, have the option of purchasing extended warranty coverage (true story) when I made my $13.00 purchase, and I turned it down. (Office Max will sell you anything.) My Swingline has not failed me yet and I have no regrets about not popping for the extended coverage. If you search my posts, SOMEWHERE out there I posted a pet peeve about people not properly aligning the stack of paper before stapling it. I still feel adamantly about the need for precision in this area. TPM Sister #102 -
Thanks for the post! That's good information to have. TPM Sister #102

What birthday traditions made you feel special?
Jewels replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
Some family friends have an annual tradition that would be more for YOUR benefit in the beginning, but something very much for them down the road. They do annual "interviews" of the birthday child and their family and or friends and catch it all on video. Over time, the videos are put together and it's an ongoing history of what they looked like, what was important in their world at that time, what others had to say. . . . It would take a little work but I think it's a really special idea. TPM Sister #102 -

That's helpful. I didn't make that connection in your original post. TPM Sister #102 -

QuoteQuote i guess this may be where my original rant started from... but all the sky gods latched onto the tunnel bit from the original thread... the sport in the uk is being killed off slowly by shite attitude's and people who are more intrested in there self than the sport, how many dropzones need to close in the uk b4 people give a toss? maybe they don't deserve to be open if there treating people badly! [\reply] So, what exactly is the connection between poor attitudes and self-absorption and wind tunnels? Perhaps I am missing the point of your message because somehow you do seem to be saying that the wind tunnels are at fault. Oh, and as for the social aspect, I will remind you again that I have 4 jumps but in the last year-and-a-half, the vast majority of my friends have become skydivers and tunnel rats. They are the people I spent the holidays with. These are the people at the dz, too. I know a number of skydivers that I've never seen anywhere near the tunnel. Nobody's defecting from the dz so they can go hang out with me. If anything, it's the other way around. Sorry; I guess I need clarification as to the connection. I'm not saying there aren't problems. I just don't understand why it's the wind tunnels' fault. TPM Sister #102 -
Wing tunnels, The BPA = Goodbye 2 skydiving
Jewels replied to crashtested's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Um, well, I don't have many jumps to speak of yet, but I can promise you that I wouldn't even have ONE if it wasn't for the tunnel. I also have a number of friends who started flying at the tunnel before they went off and got their licenses, and I hear that our tunnel instructors send a LOT of people to the local dz. I don't know about your area, but since I can name a few people who are now licensed skydivers because of the tunnel, I can't say I see things from your perspective. TPM Sister #102 -
Let's just say that I happen to know that there's a Crowne Plaza in Nashua. Won't be before the first of the year, but I'd love to make a trip out!!! Sorry, everybody, for the hijack! As you were--talk about membership!!! TPM Sister #102

LOL--Gee, like getting me to a wind tunnel is difficult!! Shhhhhhhhhhh . . . secret deals . . . I won't tell! Edited to add: Okay, it's fourth quarter at the office, so I'm not going anywhere AT LEAST until the first of the year. HYPOTHETICALLY, though, say, if someone was just curious , which airport should they fly into? I looked on the map and I'm guessing Manchester, but it's kind of hard to tell. TPM Sister #102

Go for it! (And let us know how it goes. I need the inspiration! I stood up the first one and it has gone downhill from there. ) TPM Sister #102

People who are offended by a traditional "ho ho ho" from Santa Clause have much too much time to dream up ways to be offended. You can sexualize almost anything if you work hard enough (Exhibit A: dropzone.com). It still doesn't MAKE everything sexual. I hope the individual Santas aren't don't feel obligated to go to "ha ha ha!" Ridiculous! TPM Sister #102

I respect your efforts! My last "landing" was an attempted PLF. My mind knew what it should do, my legs were together, but somehow my body thought landing on my face would be more convenient. Instead of landing and rolling, I landed with my legs together and just went over the front. I think your furniture plan is much better than mine was! Your dog will get used to odd behavior. QuoteThe other big difference is visual. . . . . [T]he relative wind coming from the horizontal can be distracting and disorienting until you learn to ignore the horizon and focus on where the wind is coming from and where others are in relation to yourself. [\reply] I particularly agree about the visual differences. I have a lot of tunnel time and very few jumps but have already noticed that one of the things I need to pay better attention to in the air is what's going on around me BEYOND the confines of where my tunnel walls would normally be. I'm improving, but that's definitely something I want to be more aware of. As for exits, everyone is right in what they're saying but I thought I'd also mention that I have door fear and don't remember most of my airplane exits--at least, those few seconds between standing in the door and then transitioning to terminal. I'm getting better. On my first AFF jump, I could remember nothing other than wondering if I was really going to go when the count actually reached THREE (I did); the next time, I noticed that the bar you hang onto in the door is yellow; and the third time, I was surprised to discover that it's windy out there. Anyway, my point is just that you get a lot of sensory things going with an airplane exit that you don't have with the tunnel--and that's just for the floater exits I've been doing. It's definitely not the same experience. I would suggest looking at the tunnel as a free fall tool, but not expecting to be able to equate it to the exit. TPM Sister #102

I'll vouch for that!

I'm not sure how "elderly" your parents are, or how mobile they might be, but as my mother is getting older she's starting to appreciate more things like tickets to the theater (nothing to clean or store!), or gift certificates to a special restaurant. If you can make an event or activity that some of their friends can be a part of (even just a lunch out), that's usually fun. A Barnes & Noble gift card always goes over well, too, so she can buy books or a book on tape. I know none of those things sound terribly exciting, but they're things *my* mother has enjoyed in the past. Oh--and I get her things that she could use but would never get on her own, like an upgrade (i.e., up to date!) cell phone--not for extra bells and whistles, but just to keep her technology current.
