Hey College Kids - Pulled any all nighters lately?
SuperGirl replied to Unstable's topic in The Bonfire
I do it more often than I'd like. looks like tonight might be one of those. make sure you take a little nap before the test. even an hour can do wonders. but if you pulled an all-nighter, make sure you have 2 loud alarm clocks for your nap... it's amazing how deeply you can fall asleep when you're really tired. -
yeah, see? you had to buy the book. my point was that now they don't even let you bother... they just give it to you when you buy the cube... they don't even let you try to figure it out on your own anyhow, I like your story. my story is a little different: I had a cube and didn't know about the solving strategies, so I just broke it into pieces and reassembled it :)
-
it's a rubik's cube. there are strategies for solving them. they sell them with little booklets nowadays, telling you exactly how you can solve it. if you were to do that 50 times, I think you'd learn pretty well. it's just a matter of pattern-recognition: cube looks like this, then I move it like this, then like that, and that etc... now, if they showed the kid did it in minimum number of moves or something, I'd be impressed. but the only thing they show is that the poor kid doesn't play with fancier toys and is trained how to learn stuff by well-organized repetition oh, and it's not really a baby.

that's the thing... it's the small community type..

Consider this scenario: You just accepted a job offer with employer X. The pay is ok but not great, but you like X and the place. You just moved there, got a place to stay, all that good stuff. Now employer Y just gives you this other job offer that pays twice, makes you get twice that experience, and the place is just as nice but with even cheaper housing. But you JUST accepted the job with X... and they're relying on you... Do you tell employer X to suck it and go for the job with Y? Is it unethical? Will it kick you in the butt in the long run?

Like everyone said, rain hurts. I just want to point out that it hurts even when you're wearing a full face helmet. I tried that once... no fun. Your neck still gets exposed when you're arched in freefall, and ouch!! Then your gear gets all wet... which means you have to hang it out to dry, and make sure it gets plenty of air, because if it dries in a small bundle on the floor, it might smell bad afterwards. Lines like to shrink from water, too.

which reserve is better for high wing loadings?
SuperGirl replied to SuperGirl's topic in Gear and Rigging
I agree with your points, but I'm asking something a little different here. I'm talking about people who choose to jump a canopy that's so small that even if their reserve si 20 or 30 sq ft bigger, it's still loaded quite high. I realize it's ideal to keep your reserve as close to 1:1 as possible, but let's face it, a ton of people out there downsize like crazy. Say you've got a 200 pound dude who's a very skilled canopy pilot and is really into swooping so he loves his 100 sq ft main. The reserve in his container isn't gonna be that big... there's just no way...Even if you get a 140 reserve in there that's still loaded around 1.4. So, in that case, the question is... does it make a difference what type of reserve you put in there? -
which reserve is better for high wing loadings?
SuperGirl replied to SuperGirl's topic in Gear and Rigging
The "what should I do about my reserve repack" thread got me wondering... Someone stated in there that the Raven -M shouldn't be loaded more than 1.3 Well... is there a reserve that's perfectly fine at a high wing loading? (assuming you're perfectly capable of flying it and you're not knocked unconscious or disabled in any way) A lot of people like to swoop small canopies nowadays, and get small containers, which obviously can only fit so much in the reserve tray. Even with the smaller pack volume on the Optimum, we're still talking about way too many people out there jumping really tiny rigs and weighing a LOT of pounds. If you are one of those people, which reserve would you pick? Is there any good choice? Please resist the urge for the smart-ass "you shouldn't downsize" reply... I'm just seeking information, I'm not even downsizing under 1.1 anytime soon. -
Thanks:) it is all pushed to the bottom and the top is VERY soft. I think I'll have him repack it in front of me, if he says he'll do it. heres another picture. [this should have been hudsonderek posting this, not supergirl... we're sharing a computer]

The main page of the classifieds currently shows many categories as having 0 items when in fact there's plenty of stuff listed in there. Looks like it might a bug... I'm viewing it on Mac OS 10.4 using Firefox. -

what makes good UML stand out from bad UML? I need to find 3 examples of good UML on the web and talk about what makes them good... well... what makes good UML good?

oh I'm so excited to make this. thanks for all the suggestions, guys! keep'em coming.

that's awesome, but I'd really like to avoid spending more than a jump ticket on a pan that I'll only use once. I'm more interested in suggestions for what kind of ingredients will make it easier to cut it into a nice shape without having the whole thing collapse into crumbs. I don't mind spending a few hours trying to sculpt the thing, if necessary. I like artsy projects. I just have no idea where to start. My usual idea of making a cake is the all-in-a-box stuff besides, I'm not sure I have enough time to get that pan in the mail if I order it online.

I wanna make someone a bday cake in some complicated shape... like an airplane, or maybe a skydiver? probably the airplane will be easier... anyhow, I have no idea how to make it so it's stiff enough and doesn't end up a complete disaster. any suggestions?

I need to extend someone's php project and I'm having trouble getting it to work in the first place. I'm not familiar with PHP at all, most of my programming skills are in Java/C++ so apologies if my explanations sound like nonsense, I don't really know what I'm talking about... so here's the thing. I've got a database and the website has a feature for exporting someone's records to an xml file. First thing I tried was to test that what's already implemented works... but I get this error: Fatal error: Class 'DOMDocument' not found in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/mypmr/export.php on line 44 well, looking at the code, it's creating this DOMDocument and adding the structure... and from what I understand this should work just fine since I'm running PHP5 So. What's going on here? I can PM you code and other details you might need...
