  1. 0:2:2 Today was particularly exciting because it was my third (and final) successful DRCP followed by my first freefall. I'm off the dope rope for now! Also have had 3 consecutive nice stand-up landings. Today was a good day.
  2. I, actually today, missed both of my first 2 dummy pulls. I think the problem for me was going wayyyy too fast. On the ground I practiced it really nice, slow and smooth. Arch. Reach. Pull. However, up on the strut and shortly after letting go it was like I put my hands into fastforward. The extra speed wound up just making me slap at my belly/side without finding the handle. After two slaps with no luck and the canopy inflating above me I gave up. My instructors told me exactly what was said above, to not try to beat the canopy opening. I just need to drill that into my head and actually do it when it counts. Its just a bit different in the air than on the ground. Good luck.
  3. 0:0:2 Took the static line FJC on saturday but unfortunatley as soon as the class ended the winds kicked up. Myself, the JM, and another student were on jumprun with the door of the 182 about to be opened when the DZO radioed up to bring us down because the load before was getting pounded by winds. Sat around util close to sunset waiting for them die down but they didn't. The DZO was fucking wayyy nice about it and insisted I be on the 1st load the next day. Showed up around 10am on Sunday and got on that first load. Got in 2 static lines with good climbout and arch, and so got cleared for the dummy ripcord pulls for next time. I learned a shitload about skydiving in the past 2 days.
  4. Did anyone here do their student work while in the state of Indiana? I've been waiting since November to get started on this shit, and it looked like in late March the weather was turning around for the better, but it was only a tease and we had another 3 weeks of winter. Finally though the sun is out and temperature is up but I realized another potential problem. WIND. I noticed when I came to this state before I ever thought about skydiving that it was windy as all hell here. I know wind affects all skydivers, but it grounds students before it grounds the experienced guys. So if you learned to skydive in this state, or really any of the windy mid-west, did you get winded out a lot? I know weather is unpredictable and uncontrollable and just a part of it, but do any of you folks from around here have any experience or insight about the frequency that the wind grounds you? Does the wind tend to settle down at all with the change of seasons around here? Thanks for any insight. Ryan
  5. I wound up at this place once about a year ago, and I was DAMN surprised at how incredible it is. Its just a tiny little shop out in a tiny little town called Nolensville, TN. Its a bit of a drive from where you're at (probably close to 30-35 minutes), but check it out on mapquest and see if its worth it to you. Here's them on citysearch. http://nashville.citysearch.com/profile/44557009/nolensville_tn/martin_s_bar_b_que_joint.html I highly reccomend it. I also highly reccomend what Adventurechick said about Pancake Pantry. That place will undoubtedly serve you the best breakfast you've ever had. Seriously. Their "Grill Cook's Medley" will treat you right everytime, as will all of their secret recipe pancakes. What are you in Nashville for anyhow? Enjoy my home state while you're there. I'm missing it.
  6. Make sure you leave about 20 minutes open at the end of your presentation for beer/bondfire in the gymnasium (or wherever your presentation will be). I imagine it might take a while for those 3rd graders to choke down some of that nectar.
  7. While we're at it, can anyone shed some light on the term 'step-through?' A friend of mine mentioned having had a step-through, but seeing as I know shit about this sport yet its something I've never heard of. Any help?
  8. I'm not sure if you are making conjecture, or just stating fact, but yeah, they revealed that a while ago. I don't remember when, but I definatley know it was revealed sometime in season 2. LOST took a dive for a little while, but now they seem to be getting back on track. That episode about Jack's tattoos (the asian tattoo artist in particular) was complete shit.
  9. When you guys talk about politics, what exactly are you referring to? DZ managment, attitudes of other jumpers, or what? I'm curious because I'm just starting my tour.
  10. This brings me to ask a question that has been on my mind for a little bit... When one is doing his low-second delays, how can the JM judge the jumper's performance, and allow him to pass to the next level? If the student jumps alone, and nobody else is in the air with him, how can JM's observe his ability to control himself in freefall? Maybe on the 5 second jumps the JM can see from the plane? But what about the 10's and 15's? Does a JM occassionally jump with the student to observe, before allowing him to pass on to the longer delays? I've wondered this for a while now, as I am starting my SL progression very soon.
  11. Maybe bringing back a dead thread, but... http://www.santasm.net/ Wow.. Edited to fix link
  12. You've probably seen this, but maybe not. http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=xtreme_bullshit[url]
  13. Yeah, might not be too horrible. At least after the phantom pain subsided I could get a prosthetic and it would never hurt again. But my girlfriend has a bit of a foot-thing (yes, sexual), and I don't know how she would take to sucking on acryllic, or wooden toes.
  14. Holy shit. So yesterday I got out of my car and was walking towards my apartment when I felt a small twinge in my foot. All day it felt weird, and eventually that weird feeling turned into pain. It hurts like hell on the inside of my arch. Its hard to describe, but it only seems to hurt during walking when my toes are the only part on the ground-- as in when they are pushing off to take another stride. It also hurts in the same spot if I invert my foot, like pointing my toes towards my midline while keeping my foot flat on the ground. I haven't found any way to really stretch the spot, because its on the INSIDE of my arch. I've had this before, and it lasted about 10 days. Its fucking terrible, because living on a college campus walking is just about my only means of transportation, and I have to walk all over campus all the time. I run about 15 miles a week, do any of you runners have similar foot problems? I really don't have time right now to go see a doctor, have any of you experienced this and figured out a way to fix it? Could 3 year old running shoes, and non-supportive casual wear shoes be to blame? Damn, I appreciate anyone who's got some advice.
  15. Well, in my tiny little shoebox apartment last night myself and five others played a little game called Wild Zeros. It is essentially a movie by this really loud rock and roll band. The movie however has a drinking game built in to it. Whenever someone combs their hair, says 'rock and roll', flames shoot out of something, or a zombies head explodes you have to take 1 shot of beer. A little beer icon comes up to let you know when you need to drink. There are multiple times where you must pause the movie in order to catch up. This translates roughly into 12 beers in just under 1 1/2 hours. 12 beers in 1 1/2 hours for five young men, and a few less (maybe 11 beers?) for some other guests, coupled with post-movie sake bombs for all guests roughly translates into: 80+ beer cans strewn about my tiny apartment (about the size of a motel room) 5 heaves of puke on the inside rim of the toilet 1 bag of popcorn seeds dumped on the floor pizza sauce crusted onto the fridge and floor in a splatter-like arrangement 1 artwork punched in half (literally) 1 very ill-conceived burrito and a drunken self proclaimed 'chef' 1 clogged toilet 3 people pissing in the shower multiple times, because of the toilet (i was one of them) 1 banana half eaten, half smashed onto the kitchen floor 1 shattered beer mug 1 creepy phrase "Have you ever had your dick sucked by a mustache man?" was spoken in an appropriatley creepy manner. I could go on, but its time to clean. What was your Friday night like? All of the casualties of my apartment considered, it was totally worth it.
  16. Beer Trash. Thats going to be the name of a hardass rock and roll band, who bangs strippers and eventually drinks their career away that I will eventually start. But until then, you may use it.
  17. This may not be a video, but it certainly is something nobody should ever look at.. Body Modification extremists are fucking wayyyy out there.. I bet you can't not look http://modblog.bmezine.com/wp-content/uploads/200701251408-pix2.jpg NSFW-- or anyone for that matter.
  18. I would drop the fuck out of nursing school and tell a few choice people in the program to eat my balls. Then I would maybe study something just for fun with no pressure, and have a beer. Then I would pay for either SL or AFF in one payment and buy a rig. I think I might go buy a poweball ticket.
  19. I've had this question on my mind for a while now, since the dropzones here aren't open during the winter and all I can do is think about skydiving instead of actually do it... How much wind is too much for a student (generally speaking, of course) to jump? How much wind is too much for the experienced guys to jump? I can't start my SL course until we get a weekend here above 40 degrees, and I'd be really bummed if we got grounded due to wind... So how much is too much? Then maybe I could anticipate the weather a little bit with the forecast. Thanks, Ryan
  20. 'Painting this on the outside of my conversion van sure would make luring little kids into it much easier, but then people would think I'm weird..."
  21. Csbrady--You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Europe?
  22. Which UT did you go to?
