Anyone know if the jumper was equipped with a hook knife? I wonder how that happened, it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to get yourself unhooked, especially if you had a hook-knife to hack at it with. And, am I understanding this correctly-- the plane landed with him attached to it without killing him? How is that even possible?

Dude, that really sucks-- But I have to ask- what do these idiots do with gear that they steal?! Skydiving isn't THAT popular that you could just sell a rig on the corner... Especially one as distinct looking as yours.. I wonder if they just steal it and realize they can't sell it, and just sit on it for years.. Good luck man, I'll keep an eye out too.

Haha, the son of a bitch did it again last night at 2:30 am. I think either the batteries are going to have to come out, or its going to have to start sleeping in the shed.. I'll be really freaked out if it keeps doing it once I take the batteries out..

No, the dytter hasn't even been out to the DZ since I bought it. I got it and a protec earlier this month for $20. I set it to alarm at around 3500feet using the method for setting them that I read about here: Turn to the left until it beeps, wait. When it stops move it to the right, each dot representing 1000 feet. I guess if its trashed, I'm really not out any money seeing as the protec is probably worth 20 on its own.

I didn't realize that the old original dytters doubled as alarm clocks... At approximately 7:03 am this morning I was awoken from my slumber by an obnoxius beeping sound coming from the floor. I just bought a new alarm clock on Monday but haven't set it yet so I thought maybe that was malfunctioning. But after smashing it to pieces I realized it was in fact not the culprit. I looked across the room and saw my helmet on the floor and realized it was my dytter. Why in the world would it be going off? It lasted much longer than it normally does-- Probably close to 60 seconds. I thought maybe it was changes in the atmospheric pressure, but now that I'm up for real I took a look at my altimeter and its only off zero by 500 feet. My dytter was set around 3500 feet (or as close as I can tell with the primitive display of the original dytter). Any ideas?

AAhhhhahahahaha... That's truly one of the few things I have read on here that made me laugh. Haha!

I'll be a 24 in just over a year. That will be nice to actually make some decent money.

Haha, its hardly February... A bit too early and too damn cold to be calling spring time-- But that is kind of a cool idea. (As long as beer is served at the end of the day)

I've been working feverishly to find other jumpers here at IU- Bloomington. Do any of you exist? Anyone know someone who jumps that goes to IU? I can't seem to find more than 1. I want to start an IU skydiving club, but I'd like to find some already skydivers to have a solid base for starting it. Ryan

HAhaha, shortyj your post sounds exactly like a conversation I JUST HAD at work... Haha wow... Went something like this: I was talking to my manager about 4th of July and how I wanted to go to Taste of Chicago, and then head down to skydive chicago. Then a new coworker butts in and tells me he's been there. Which he actually has, I know this because his other friend who works with us told me about how they would go and WATCH the skydivers, and drink beer. He then tells me he's probably jumped "25 or so times.. A few tandems, but then I jumped out the back of a C-130 with like 50 other people. I even jumped with a camera on my head.. I'll have to show you the video, but its at my parents' house.." I then asked him if he got licensed. He said he 'went to the building they teach skydiving classes at, but didn't finish the class.' I then asked him where he jumped and he told me "oh, different convetions. There was like a ton of other skydivers around, and I would just borrow their 'chutes." [these 'different conventions' are located in Indiana-- I can think of one big boogie here, and I'm sure they don't let bullshit like unlicensed jumpers going on larger formation jumps. He then went on to tell me about his 50-way jump (he obviously didn't term it 50-way), and how to land he would just run until he 'slowed down enough to stop the parachute' He said his friend's dad owned a plane, and they would also take it out and make jumps, and his friend's dad would just land the plane in SOMEONES's corn or bean fields.. [WTF?] Regular corn landings can't be too good on a plane.. I asked him how his friend's dad taught him to jump. He said "he just told me like how to do it, and when to pull the 'chute." I asked him if any of the following rang a bell: Static line- 'No' AFF- 'Is that like the organization that makes rules?' Flare- 'No.' ARCH- 'No, maybe they use different terms.' He then told me he just catches on to everything he does really quickly, as he fucked up a customer's sandwich. I called him out on it in the beginning, but when he kept insisting, I just let it go. Some people need to validate themselves, I guess?

Once you get mono, caused by the Epstein Barr virus, the virus remains in your body. Most of the time it is dormant, but you can have flare-ups throughout your life. From my understanding Epstein Barr lives in the body in sort of the same fashion as some of the herpes viruses. And yeah- About the title.. How else would I get anyone's attention in The Bonfire? FYI- I've already seen 2 ENT's, a gastroenterologist, internal medicine doctor, and chiropractor/accupuncturist. Running out of options
-
Yes, I have had Mono. Twice, it was no fun.. Although Its hard for me to think that this is mono, because there was such a cause and effect. This all began after I threw up so violently that my ribs hurt the next day. Unstable-- What was going on with you when you had mono? Any of the stuff I listed in the first post?

I know this post won't get me any relief or probably any real info, but damn, I have to put it out there.. 2 months ago I got reallllly reallly sick. I was puking for probably 4 hours, so hard that I remember thinking I was going to bust as capillary in my eye. Ever since that day it feels like there's a lump in my throat. It feels like somebody is poking me right below my adams apple. Also just about everyday I get this dull ache that runs up my neck and underneath my jaw. It feels almost exactly like the feeling of being emotionally choked up, or really stressed out.. Except constant. This has been constant for 2 months, regardless of what I eat, or what I'm doing. What the hell?! Having doctors not know whats wrong with you is one of the most distressing things I've ever dealt with. I hope this goes away someday. Now maybe its time for another flexoril, although muscle relaxers only seem to mask the pain. This is such a bizzarre injury.

who else raised their prices?
ryan_d_sucks replied to shermanator's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I jump at a small cessna DZ, and our prices just went up a little bit. The student jumps after the first static line course & jump went from $45 to $50. There was also a slight increase in regular jumpers prices too. I'm certain that my DZ isn't following a trend set by other DZ's as much as it is following the increasing cost of fuel. -

Haha, sounds like that guy had something other than beer in his system. -
I hadn't seen any of those. I love LOST, its gonna be sweet when they start up again next month. That season 3 finale was insane.

Hey- I just bought a used CYPRES and I'm kind of confused. On the main box the DOM stamped onto the info square says the DOM is 4/99. However, on the actual cutter a date of 06/98 is listed. What year +/- 3 months will this unit expire? Why would the dates be different? Also, if the only silver sticker on the unit just reads "Do not remove seal," can I assume no maintenance has been done? Thanks.

"Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About"
ryan_d_sucks replied to McDuck's topic in The Bonfire
Hahahahahaha, wow..... Sometimes with women its just like "What. The. Fuck?!" Sometimes my girlfriend blows my mind with what pisses her off and her reaction to it. Dealing with dudes is SO much easier. That must be one of the perks of being gay? -
Yo dude, I'm in school too and I just this week finished piecing together my first rig. My advice: Buy used gear. If money is tight, and you never seem to have much of it all at one time piece your rig together. I started with buying a main. I didn't see anything I wanted on the classifieds, so I put out a Wanted ad. Someone who saw the ad contacted me. He wasn't even really looking to sell his main until he saw the ad and realized he didn't really need that canopy anymore. After that I bought a 2001 container/1994 reserve combo (making sure the container would fit my main) for $900, and then an AAD with 3 years for $275. I financed all of this with money made from making sandwiches at Subway. You've just got to save up. Its agonizing how long it takes, but eventually it will happen for you. I say get the most important stuff first. Ie: What good is an altimeter going to do you if you don't have a rig? I don't know your situation, but at my DZ I'm sure I could have used one of the student chest-mounts if I didn't have one. Good luck

actually he did.. actions have consequences, something that has been greatly lost by people who view predatory animals as 'pets' and entertainment. I mourn the loss of another great cat.. 1 less human asshole who learned 'the hard way' that predators are not play toys doesn't bother me much at all... Yikes dude.. The kid was 17 years old and granted, he was doing something stupid, he didn't deserve to die. I don't think he probably had education, much less an opinion on predatory animals. Your statement really irks me. Think of all the dumb shit you did when you were a kid. Its easy to make stern sounding statements like "actions have consequences," until one of you or yours' seemingly benign actions results in a serious injury/death. Do you 'deserve to die' for anything stupid you've done? How can you mourn the death of a cat over that of a kid? That cat didn't have parents at home, or relatives, or friends that are cogniscent enough to even know its gone. That kid may have been acting stupid, but our moments of stupidity don't necessarily represent who we really are. Do people who tempt fate by jumping out of airplanes deserve to die? Someone bounces; 'One less human dumbfuck who learned 'the hard way' that gravity is real and shouldn't be toyed with.' That may be a stretch, but not a leap too far from your idea.

What age did you start skydiving?
ryan_d_sucks replied to GoRdOn8619's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
2 Tandems at the end of the season when I was 19. Spent all winter waiting for the DZ to open again and turned 20. As soon as the DZ was open again I enrolled in the static line program at 20 years of age. -
outside tandem video VS handicam
ryan_d_sucks replied to tsalnukt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a first time jumper I trusted my TM and was ready to jump with him ___________________________________ Based on what? You didn't know any of the players invovled, TM, DZO, pilot, you simply trusted the school to provide quality staff. Why would this not extend to a camera flyer? ____________________________________ Actually I had quite a bit of correspondence with him and the DZO before making the jump in the form of emails phone calls, etc. And I'm not saying it wouldn't have extended to the camera flyer, had I met him. I'm not in any way bashing the outside video, or saying which one is more safe, because I haven't been around long enough and seen enough to form a well rounded opinion. _____________________________________ Throwing another person out there with us mgiht have made ME less confident if I had known the dangers associated with it. ______________________________________ How would you have known the dangers? They don't exactly advertise tandem/cameraman collisions when they try to sell outside video. _____________________________________ They might find out about it from threads like this. While many tandems may show up knowing absolutely nothing about skydiving, I'd be willing to bet a fair amount do in fact read up on it a little bit. I know i certainly did. I read a lot on this website before actually making my first jump. And while dz.com may not be the best source for good skydiving literature, first time jumper doesn't know that. Again, I'm not saying which is better or safer. I'm only saying how I felt during my jump and my satisfaction with the product I recieved. That's it.
