Vector III Spectre 170 Tempo 170 And the best part is, I finally learned the proper way to close the container and route the bridle. Tommorrow (actually today, I guess) I'm ordering the manuals to make sure there isn't anything else that I don't know.

This is Dave Drohlich. I dropped his name because it seems like he knows everybody on the dropzone. I was down there with my college club, so I was mostly hanging out with the younger crowd, trying to sneak onto loads whenever I could. I'm not sure who made the really hot chili or won the contest, but it wasn't me.

Arresting somebody for a crime that they might commit in the future is different from discouraging them from committing a crime. I don't object to "discouraging crime before it occurs," in the form of community patrols, police on the streets, etc. I can also live with bar raids, but that might be because I live in a college town and I will guarantee that right now there is at least one underage drinker in every bar in town. My problem with the case presented in the article is that people were arrested for public intoxication when they were indoors on private property.

Yeah, I was there most of the day that Saturday. I think I might have met a Mindy, but I'm not sure. Do you know Drohlich? And I refuse to buy pink and purple gear. sorry.

I'm not really freeflying that much, but I'm thinking about getting a freefly suit for when I don't want to wear my RW suit. So anyway, ideas are attached. I'm really liking grey and blue for some reason. BTW, MS Paint screwed with the colors, the grey is actually a little darker.

psst... you don't have to buy .Mac if you don't want it.

It would seem that Marc hasn't posted since the middle of October. Might have something to do with the startling lack of jumping from El Presidente.

There is also a Perl module (Geo::PostalCode) that can tell you the distance between postal codes, among other things. It uses the 1999 Census data, but postal codes don't change that often.

I hate you. I can afford to jump 15-20 times a month. I usually don't make that goal, with school and Illinois weather getting in the way. So really, I go to the dropzone whenever I have time, which ends up being 10 jumps or so a month when the weather is decent. Far, far, less in the winter. In 16 months of jumping, including student status and an entire summer spent saving for gear, I'm averaging about 4/month.

Black with rainbow pinstripes on the main flap.

Which 'Poynter's parachute manual' @ Amazon ?
indyz replied to andrewstewart's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've got both and if I could only have one I'd go with Volume II. Especially if you are a non-rigger, it has more useful info for the modern jumper. -
No real good reason. We had a copy of OS X laying around for evaluation purposes, and we had a spare G3. Plus, I figure that we'll start using it someday, so I might as well learn it now.

A lot of businesses (including the university department that I do IT stuff for) aren't switching for a variety of reasons: - Familiarity - Users are familiar with the "classic" Mac OS interface, and have been using it for 10+ years in many cases. - Cost - Apple isn't just handing out copies of OS X. - Performance - Many of the apps that we use haven't been ported to OS X, so users will actually see a performance hit because they will be running Classic all of the time. Even if there is a port available, we can't afford to relicense all of our software to the OS X version. - Maintainence - The IT staff has to learn all of the quirks of a new system. Other than "it looks pretty," we haven't been able to find a good reason to deploy it. In fact, the only OS X box in the department is on my desk Many of the same reasons apply to home users, especially the issues of familiarity and cost. Also, your average home computer user is probably a little nervous about installing a whole new OS.

Do you still have a savings account/CD after starting to jump?
indyz replied to PhreeZone's topic in The Bonfire
Sure I do, it has about $150 in it . I have some Xmas cash and a $98 paycheck to deposit, plus a little bit in checking, so I'm not doing that bad, considering I'm a college student with basically zero living expenses. -
Archway Skydiving, Vandalia, IL Sky Knights, East Troy, WI Been to SDC, but the winds were crazy so I didn't jump.

Preferred video formats for skydivingmovies.com
indyz replied to billvon's topic in Photography and Video
I'll throw in the Linux user's perspective: DivX first, then WMV, then QuickTime. They are all playable under linux with mplayer but QT requires some tricks, and is in alpha condition right now. DivX works perfectly and WMV works pretty well. Mpegs also work, but they are just gigantic. -
Twin at home, long twin at school.

Umm, has any fast food joint ever taken checks, out of state or local?

If your DVD doesn't have Macrovision, or you can turn it off, then you can just go straight from the DVD to a VCR. The nice people at vcdhelp.com have a section devoted to dvd hacks, which, among other things, can turn of Macrovision on some players.

In the US, anybody who is considered a student must have an AAD, among other things. When I started jumping (only a year and a half ago), I had an Adventrue Loft Brief Case rig. Old, dirty, probably thousands of jumps, all velcro, all the time. Sentinel AAD, you had to wind it up to calibrate it. It wasn't dangerous, but it was old and uncomfortable, and a ride on a round reserve wouldn't have been fund.
-
Started on a Briefcase container with a 26' Lopo round reserve and a 290 sq. ft. Skymaster main. P/C was springloaded with a hip mounted ripcord. About halfway through my student progression, the DZ bought new gear. So from about jump 15 onward (static line progression), I had a Wings container with an unknown size Tempo reserve, 290 or 230 sq. ft. Skymaster depending on the rig. P/C was springloaded with a BOC ripcord.

If you have the video on a computer for editing... Dump the finished VHS version of the product back to a DV camera via firewire, then from the camera go to a VCR. For multiple copies, you can get your hands on a VHS duplicator, or just go camera-to-VCR over and over.
-
Is it the one with the photo of the freeflier on the fridge? Or is that something else? Either way, if I can't remember the name of the product, it wasn't a very effective commercial.

Does anyone leave their RSL connected for wingsuit jumps?
indyz replied to fergs's topic in Wing Suit Flying
>if I truly need that extra split second for a save, >I'm doomed, anyway. It takes 2.5 seconds to fall 100 feet from a standing start. Those 100 feet could easily be the difference between going in under an inflated reserve or going in under a reserve at line stretch.
