  1. The main wasn't stolen, it was washed out to sea.
  2. From the website: There is also a little preview clip at http://www.lifemoments.com. I used to see it late at night in the Chicago area, but it looks like it has been dropped. If you get the Milwaukee stations, it's on at 8:00 am on channel 41.
  3. I went to a dermatologist who recommended medication. I decided not to because the worst that happened to me was a few small scars around my nose. Other than that, it's just a social thing and doesn't really bother me.
  4. New lenses are $10 from SQ1. If the face behind the needle is cracked, that's probably a factory repair.
  5. Check out the article "Parachutists jump into Jax" in the Business Journal of Jacksonville. This link brought to you by the relentless Skydive News engine (unofficially and possibly illegally powered by Google). See the link in my sig.
  6. I would feel guilty undercutting a staff packer, usually a teenager who is doing it to finance his AFF or his first car or something. If the DZO says, "these are the staff packers," then as far as I am concerned, they are the only ones who should be able to charge for pack jobs on the DZ. It's their job and their place of business; you really don't have a right to bring your own business in. Honestly, if your buddy packs for you and you slip him a fiver, nobody will say anything. If he makes a regular thing of it, I would expect that he will be told to knock it off. Personally, I would rather that you just owe me a pack job or maybe a beer.
  7. 20 years old, still have enough pimples to call it acne. Hate it, all I can do is wash my face twice a day and try to avoid stress.
  8. How many flies does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Just two, but I'll be damned if I know how they got in there.
  9. What's Helen Keller's favorite color? Corduroy.
  10. ThinkGeek. They also have the coffee mug. (edit: Totally the wrong URL)
  11. The string is "-- \n" or the string that matches the regular expression /^-- $/ or the string described as "a delimiter line containing (only) two hyphens (ASCII 45) followed by one blank (ASCII 32)." The later is from the "Son of RFC 1036." Ask Google about "sigdashes" for more information about this long-standing Internet tradition.
  12. According to the Parachute Rigging Course, 2000 revision, original installation is a master rigger job. With the manufacturer's authorization, installation of an AAD in an AAD-ready rig is a senior rigger job. Removal and reinstallation of any AAD for service or cleaning is a senior rigger job. My Vector 3 manual says, "A Master Rigger rating is still required even if the system is already prepared by the Relative Workshop to accept the AAD." I believe this is the latest manual (bought a month ago), and I can't find any updates or service bulletins on RWS' web site. On the other hand, the reserve assembly and packing instruction's on Mirage's website seem to indicate that the entire process (including Cypres installation) can be done by a senior rigger.
  13. Isn't too bad in northern Illinois. Another month and I'll be riding my bike again.
  14. Champaign-Urbana? About 20 minutes away with many more hotels.
  15. That's a lot of nitrous for one person. 200 lines of object oriented Python:0:0
  16. IIRC, the gear they used for that one was from the "Hollywood" pile of unairworthy movie rental gear that we have where I work. Was it a solid black Vector? Wasn't shown clearly enough to get a make or model. Solid black sport rig, standard red cutaway and silver reserve handles, and I'm pretty sure I saw B-12 snaps on the leg straps.
  17. Running off of the AC adapter keeps my (non-DV) cam from powering down. Might work the same with your camera.

    Dive loops

My blocks might be aftermarket mods put on by a previous owner, I'm not really sure. It's definitely easier to use my blocks than it is to use just riser, and harder than loops (which I've only used twice).

    Dive loops

Here you go. In the side view picture, my thumb is resting on the block.
  20. A larkshead is the same knot that you use to put a rubber band on a d-bag. It's a good knot because as long as the material doesn't break, the knot can't come undone while there is pressure on the "tail."
  21. Twice tonight. One was a BASE jump on a Nissan commercial. The other was on Alias a few minutes ago. Pretty standard somebody puts a couple of rounds through the door of a 747, explosive decompression type thing. Everything that wasn't bolted down gets sucked out, including a badguy into the engine. The heroine manages to get into a sport rig that's conveniently stashed in a closed, puts on some goggles, then gets sucked out the door. Defying the laws of physics, she goes over the wing then over the tail. Big square computer animated canopy follows. At least the BASE jump was cool.
  22. I can't find any mention of PISA being renamed Aerodyne Systems. Aerodyne International's web site mentions that AS is out of South Africa, but other than that I can find no connection. It may be that PISA is just being used as a contractor to build the canopies, and that AS is a corporation set up to manage that. Or something. If AS really was a renamed PISA, then I would expect to see PISA's canopy on AI's site along with AR's. [The acronyms are confusing me.] The Tempo sells too well and has too much market share to just throw that away.
  23. That only became common on usenet, after people drilled it home for eons... And it's technically "-- ", dash-dash-space.
  24. Damn, beat me to it. Album is here.

    Funny MP3

If you play multiplayer video games, you probably know somebody who can't stop swearing when he's (or, she, I guess) is losing. Some people recording one of these guys and made a techno mix out of it: The Terrible Mr Grimshaw Full story here.
