BASE jumpers eye Jin Mao Tower -- Press Clips
indyz replied to quade's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Photos and stats about the tower here. It's a whole lot prettier than Petronas. Emphasis mine. I'm certain it isn't the worlds highest's BASE jump, and quite possibly not even the world's highest B. -
I can do that. Except for the moving to California part. Dammit.

It's pretty hard to hear the snoring over all of us laughing.

And a ditto from me. My major complaints have been satisfied, and I'm totally blown away by Alti-2's service in this case. My order is going in tommorrow.

I just realized that I didn't do any RW this weekend. That hasn't happened in a while. My numbers, including Wednesday: 0:9:1 Not really sure about the beer. You vultures could probably find an excuse to tack a few more cases on there. 4 on Wednesday, including 2 night jumps. 5 on Saturday, including a 3-way sitfly, a microline two stack, and a few jumps on Birdman Pantz. Got down to 80 mph at one point according to the Neptune I was borrowing. Not sure if I believe it. Met Fast.

I've got one jump with a demo Neptune set up as a handmount. I also don't like only being able to see fallrate in feet or meters per second. Also, I couldn't find a minimum or average freefall speed readout in the logbook. Those are the only major problems I've encountered. I got along pretty well with the unit despite having no documentation. As far as the backlight goes, when I went into the menu and switched it to "enabled", I had to back out of the menus before it actually turned on (FWIW, I tried this on the ride to altitude, so your friend might be right). Beyond that, I didn't mess with it too much.

Replying to myself here: Got a jump with a borrowed Neptune on a handmount today. It was pretty good, but I have a few gripes (and yes, I will email these to Alti-2). The log screen shows max speed and speed at different altitudes, but not minimum or average. Also, speeds are all in feet per second, which is a legit unit, but most skydivers in the US think in MPH. So what I want to see is a minimum and average speed display in the log, and an option to change freefall speed units (feet per second, meters per second, MPH, and KPH). Please note that I didn't have a whole lot of time to mess with the unit. I'm pretty sure I checked all of the menu options, but I might have missed something.

That's certainly what it looks like. It does come with a mounting clip. Since my helmet already has an audible pouch, I'm either going to attach the clip to a handmount, or build a hand mount with a pouch and clear window on it.

The bomb photo looks like a video capture to me (which I guess counts as "fast sequental stills").

They just sorta pop it back up. It's pretty cool to see. I've even seen it done over Lake Michigan with a paraglider; hard diving turn, lean it way over, end cell in the water, and pop it up to land on the floating platform. Wicked cool.

So what's the goal? Human powered flight across the English Channel? I'm pretty sure the Gossamer Albatross did that like 25 years ago.

Mine are right here. Most are from the first Saturday. BTW, anybody know how to make the Gimp do a batch resize?
-
Yep, really. I happened in 1988 to a guy named Ivan Lester McGuire. It don't have access to Lexis/Nexis anymore (news database), but somebody who does could pull up the relevant stories pretty easily.

...jumped a biplane, demoed a Lotus, did CRW, jumped a wingloading over 1.4:1, landed in a cornfield, landed in a football field, did two inflatible jumps, met too many DZ.commers to list, climbed into the rafters of a hangar, saw boobies, jumped a Skyvan, drove a golfcart, got rained on, got a sunburn, went on a tracking dive, drank a lot, ignored my cell phone, became a Muff Brother, and failed to buy a single t-shirt. So what'd you do at Rantoul? BTW, pictures on my website soon. If I took a picture of you and you don't want it on the Internet, lemme know soon please.

This is most due to personal preference and the fact each manufacturer's helmet fits best on a different head shape. I know people who are perfectly happy with their Gaths, Mindwarps, Aviators, Hurricanes, and Protecs, but most of them would have a hard time getting a good fit in all of those different models of helmets. Ask around your DZ, and try on other people's helmets. Find one that fits you well and offers the features and protection that you want. For what it's worth, the Gath is typically regarded as offering the least protection and the Protec the most among open-faced helmets. Oh yeah, and the original question: I seem to remember that Gath Sports was offering an aftermarket kit to add an audible mount to the Gath Hat, but I can't find any information about it.

Yeah, me neither. Even if I did, I wouldn't be stupid enough to take a downwinder.

Luis Herrerra, your daughter is in registration...

They sang happy birthday to Wingnut on Tuesday. Too bad he was in the air at the time. -
He was at the DZ.com tent on Wednesday morning (attached).

If your Spectre has dacron lines, maybe. A Lightning 143 in a d-bag fit my container about as tight as my microlined Spectre 170, although I did have to let the closing loop out a little.

HeatherB just got pied for here 500th. Video soon.

Since he's a military rigger, he might be able to get off a lot easier than that. From Poynter's: "Those in the active military service and those who are civilian employees of the military, currently engaged in rigging work (or who have been discharged in the previous year), may qualify for a senior rigger certificate by acquiring a letter to that effect from their Commanding Officer or Section Chief. This then makes them eligible for the 20 question objective test on the regulations only. And, for them, no practical or oral exams are required."

0:5:0 4 with the team. Noticeable improvements today. Staying much tighter between points, fallrates were basically a non-issue for the first time in a while. 1 more sitflying. I got into a stand. That was neat.

Gameport is a 15 pin standard density (2 rows) D-sub connector. VGA video is a 15 pin high density (three rows) D-sub connector. I didn't think is was video at first, until I saw a couple references to 25 pin video. I've ruled out DB-25 serial and parallel since they are in the standard density form factor.
-
My best guess, from reading the specs and Googling, is that it's Analog/TTL video in. If you could take a picture of all of the ports on the breakout box and card, it would be helpful. Also, like Ivan I count the number of pins is 25, but the picture isn't very clear and if you could confirm this for us, it would be helpful too.

Zodiac......IIRC. Looked a bit like an RV. Not just a Zodiac, a "Polstra Zodiac".
