  1. Atair Aerospace, Flight Concepts, Strong Enterprises, and others. The Golden Knights use Javelin containers. I'm sure many other manufactures pursue military contracts. Doesn't bother me. It doesn't bother me that the Dow Chemical Company makes napalm, either, although the use of napalm a la Vietnam does.
  2. I was scared at first. There was another guy at the DZ that I would fly close to, then it turned into bumping end cells. I was usually the first one to back off. Recently we started doing stacks and planes (Spectre and Sabre canopies), and it doesn't really bother me to be close to another canopy any more.
  3. Not necessarily. At busy dropzones it is very possible that another load could be let out before he reaches the ground, especially since he is jumping a huge canopy. At WFFC there was a road that high pullers were not allowed to cross above 2000 feet, for just that reason.
  4. I was just trying to point out that his generalization was totally bogus.
  5. Really? The worst flare on any canopy that I've ever jumped was a 7 cell Lightning. I totally love the flare on a Lotus (9 cell). I think it's better than my Spectre (7 cell).
  6. 0:5:1 2 team jumps. 3 CRW jumps including my first biplane. That was too cool.
  7. Well... NipplBoy claims to have done it.
  8. Borrow a recent SIM. Find the part that tells you what sections to study for the B, then read them carefully. Pass the test. As for me: I got a new job. 30% raise, better hours (less of them, but the raise takes care of that nicely), and it'll help me get the jobs I really want when I finally graduate college.
  9. Call me crazy, but it feels a bit deceptive that you praise the product while failing to mention that you are involved with the company that produces it.
  10. That's fantastic! I started jumping in college with not much money in the bank. It took me 9 months to get my A license, and an entire summer of 40 hour weeks at a crappy job to buy gear. I would have loved to be in your position. You can bang out your training jumps as fast as you feel comfortable, and if you keep saving, will be able to buy gear right away.
  11. I wouldn't be suprised if Dave was right, but I'm looking for an extra line in the picture and can't find it.
  12. The canopies in the picture are using a retraction system that I've never seen before, which is to say, not like the system on Lightnings or hybrid Triathlons. On those canopies, the bridle would be visible on the top skin of the canopy. On the canopies in the centerfold the bridle has gone somewhere inside/under the canopy, and the PC appears to be inside the bag (pretty clearly visible on the right canopy). My best guess is that the bridle is underneath those long skinny patches of slightly off-colored red on the center cell of each canopy. Hopefully on of the CRW dogs around here will have the real answer.
  13. 0:4:0. A fun 3 way drill, a 4 way with some very low timers (in fact, I enjoyed it so much I've decided to get my Coach so I can do legit), a challenging 4 way with lots of piece moves, and Dumpster's 200th. All in all, a good weekend.

    Your favorite band

Totally agree. Seen TMBG in concert like 4 times. Always a fantastic show. Never seen BFF live, but I have the Sessions DVD and it is awesome. Some other personal favorites are Rush, Hendrix, Aquabats, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Buddy Holly, Cream, Dixie Dregs, MC Hawking, Primus, Mono Puff, P-Funk. My secret shame is that I absolutely love gospel. I'm not even a Christian, it's just awesome music. Check out a group called The Word for some cool instrumental gospel.
  15. I've used an analog alti on 160-ish jumps, digital on only one. I found that I very much prefer the digital numbers readout on the Neptune, both in freefall and under canopy. My brain just seems to register the numbers faster. As for the funbar, I didn't even know that it existed until I was reading the manual after I demoed a Neptune.
  16. This guy, who was known around our high school as a womanizer and general sleaze bag, wronged a female friend of mine. So one night we switched his gas cap for one of the locking variety. Turns out he didn't notice until he was driving around in the middle of the night with the needle below E and decided he should fill 'er up. OK, so that's more revenege than prank I guess.
  17. Just to add: I checked the model number and I have a 20AF41. It looks like the one that Fast linked to is a newer version of the same model.
  18. I have no issues with the picture quality. I'm not a mediaphile, though. It could suck and I just don't realize it.
  19. I got a Toshiba flat screen for well under $300 a couple years ago. I like it.
  20. My eTrex is in a little pouch with a belt clip. I'd put it on my chest strap and use a rubber band to secure it, like some DZs do with student radios. That's my plan for the night cross country I've been considering.
  21. The Geko 201 has all of the features of the basic eTrex (the one with the yellow case) and then some, like WAAS support and better firmware. The 301 is even better.
  22. Get yourself Weather Report, Heavy Weather, if you don't already have it. Hell, anything with Jaco Pastorius on it'll probably be pretty good.
