  1. Ball State: "About twenty percent of Americans remained loyal to England, forty percent chose to be neutral, and forty percent supported independence." As for funding from France, it wasn't easy.
  2. Cool, now I get to play the definition game. Patriot: "one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests." The colonists were patriots, the Palestinians are patriots, Saddam's remaining supporters are patriots. The fact is, the American Revolution was initially unpopular on both sides of the Atlantic. Most colonists wanted to remain British subjects.
  3. A journalist documents the events occuring in the world. I'm sorry if that means looking at things from the perspective of enemies of the United States, but it needs to be done. Those who believe that the media is right in filming one side of an engagement but wrong in filming the other are hypocrites. PS: Who exactly is this French reporter committing or almost committing treason against?
  4. Yes. Why? Edit: Specifically, why is it OK for American journalists to film attacks on Iraqis while it is reprehensible for a French journalist to film the operations of the enemy?
  5. A Caravan is a single engine side door Cessna. Holds more jumpers than a King Air, less than a Twin Otter. Picture. You are probably thinking of a Casa or a Skyvan.
  6. I think so. I have a picture of it in the red paint scheme showing the same tail numbers.
  7. Married with Children was one of the shows that launched the Fox network in 1987.
  8. It was owned by Jerry Jacquin (of Skydive Illinois). Rented to Sky Knights in East Troy, WI this summer, blew an engine, sat on the ramp for a couple of months. The story that I heard since then is that the bank took the plane back after Skydive Illinois closed down and it has been repaired and sold to a cargo operation.
  9. Technically your stamped and signed A proficiency card is a valid license. Any USPA DZ should accept it, but the only way to find out for sure is to call Eloy and ask them.

I know that Six Flags specifically says that there is no still photography or videotaping on the rides, and the ride operators deny people on a regular basis because they are carrying cameras. I seem to recall a similar rule at Disney. I wouldn't be surprised if other parks have similar rules.
  11. 1 They Might Be Giants concert:0:0 Stuck in the house doing homework today.
  12. "Slightly tapered" and "semi-elliptical" are both marketing terms and have absolutely no standardized meaning. One company's slightly tapered is another's semi-elliptical. In fact, no skydiving canopies even approach being true ellipses.
  13. Right now I have a Ripper and I only use it whne I'm doing CRW. I'm having my rigger put a metal knife under my mudflap when my rig comes up for a repack in February.
  14. The police somehow ended up talking to the guy whose phone they used.
  15. Last winter some kids were driving around my neighborhood and noticed that the boat ramps to the lake were open. The park district does this so that the snowmobilers can get on the lake without ripping up the parks and so that ice fishermen can put their shanties on the ice. Well, these kids decided that they were going to cruise the lake in their Explorer. Did I mention it was getting towards spring and the ice wasn't especially solid? No, I guess I didn't. Anyway, the dumbasses apparently stopped about 100 yards off shore and the wheels when through the ice. While the kids were panicking the car sunk further. They eventually climbed out of the windows after getting a good soaking. The car ended up completely submerged with the roof a few feet under the surface and a truck sized hole in the ice to mark it's location. The soaked and freezing kids wandered ashore, found a phone, and called their dad to pick them up. They told their dad what happened. The dad then called the police and REPORTED IT STOLEN. I shit you not. So, back to the big hole in the ice. The vehicle was clearly visible to anybody standing at the edge of the hole and looking into the water. It wasn't long before somebody found it and called the police. The fire department responded, put divers in the water, and quickly figured out what had happened. The truck was recovered three days after it sunk by using a tow truck to drag it under the ice along the lake bed to the shore. The Explorer was a total loss. The dad ended up being fined $1000 per day for creating an environmental hazard, the cost of bringing the divers out, and the cost of hiring a tow company to do the recovery. There was talk of him being charged with filing a false police report, but I don't know if anything ever became of it.
  16. Windows Mac OS X I haven't tested these personally. Your mileage may vary.
  17. here (found by searching this forum for "why 200 jumps")
  18. The Tri and the Spectre 170 are both in the 500 jump range, both on the original line set. I only have 15 jumps on the Tri so far. Maybe my body position at pull time sucks and I've just been really careful since the Tri is new. I said in my post that I don't have enough jumps on the Tri to draw any firm conclusions yet. I'll know for sure when I have 100 more jumps on the canopy.
  19. My 2 cents: I've got well over 100 jumps on a Spectre 170, about 20 on a Spectre 150, and 15 on a Triathlon Hybrid 160. The Spectres both opened in about 500 feet. The Tri takes a little bit longer. All three open perfectly acceptable as far as I'm concerned. The Tri seems to have better heading performance (probably because the Spectres are semi-elliptical), but I don't have enough jumps on it to make a really fair assesment yet. Even though the Spectres opened off heading more often, I only had line twists a few times and it flew straight and stable every time. As far as landings go, I would hesitate to say that the Spectres land "better" overall than the Tri. I don't feel that any of them are more difficult to get a soft standup landing out of. The Spectres do get noticibly more surf. It's all a matter of what you want out of your landings.
  20. If you are running Linux/BSD I have a short perl script that generates galleries like this. The captions were added by hand after the HTML was generated.
  21. I was right, it was Deuce. Screen shot is attached. PS: Sorry about the quality. I forgot that my video capture card is broken, so it is a literal screen shot taken with my digital camera.
  22. I thought it was Deuce. He claims it wasn't. I could have sworn I saw the "battleship." It's on again in about 2 minutes here so I'll know for sure.

I can't sleep until I finish a five page paper about Dilbert. This is going to be a long night.
