Any reason why it wasn't mentioned here? This seems like fairly major news, more so than changing tandem opening altitudes (at least to me), but it seems to have been completely left out, if it is even true.

There actually is an official Darwin Awards website that gathers and investigates stories, then names the "winners." They also put out an excellent little book.

Didn't the kids drop a fuel tank into the lake a while back? Something about an explosion...

Listen to your instructors. Have fun. If you want to be a popular guy and hear some great stories, bring a case a of good beer and stick around after the sun goes down.

What are they doing to the brake lines in those pictures? It looks like something with rubberbands or something.

Effects of markers on canopy fabric and lines

Check it out. -
Not a flame, but the guy who owned the shotgun is a corrections officer so gun control laws probably wouldn't have kept it out of his hands anyway. Now, by the power of the all mighty indyz, I command that this thread shall not turn into a gun control debate.

Hey Jesse, This question probably qualifies as inappropriate, but what age group do you fall into? I ask because I went to high school in Gurnee (and still live there for part of the year), and I knew more than a few Mundelein High School kids, plus some relatives that live down there.

Ignore that part. Round 3 of the swoop comp starts at 9:00 AM and round 4 at 10:00 AM. That's plenty of time to watch the swoops and make it out to a DZ to get the rig assembled and jumped at least once. Schweet! Now, who's gonna come and watch with me?

Awright, I have Saturday off of work so if my container doesn't show up in time to get a few jumps in I'll probably head into the city and check this out. Is anybody else going? Also, the web page says that swooping is in the morning, but doesn't give a specific time. Does anybody know when this is going to happen?

Me too. I was considering slinks, but I my canopy is already on rapide links (#3.5, thanks Rob), and a set of slider bumpers costs $4.00 versus $25.00 for slinks. I know I shouldn't put money before safety, but I've searched the forums and couldn't find a convincing argument as to why I should use slinks instead of rapide links. Although I have heard that I might want #5 links because the #3.5s fail more readily. Does anybody care to comment about this?

0:0:0 My container should be in any day now. Gonna put a few jumps on it Saturday if possible.

I'm a little late getting in on this, but I'll go with "or." I use Fluxbox which is a branch of Blackbox. Both are described as "minimalistic," but once you use them for a while you realize that they still have plenty of features, are easy and efficient to use, and have none of the bloat of Gnome and KDE.

I need to buy a set of slider bumpers before I hook up my main. Paragear lists mini bumpers and regular size bumpers. Does it depend on the size of risers that I have, or is it just personal preference?

1) Having fun. 2) Having fun. 3) Turning more than 1 point. 4) Living through it all.

How many times do you look at your altimeter during a jump?

Somebody (Cool 'N Groovy?) had a flashing light to go with their audibles, and newer Larsen & Brusgaard audibles have a port for one, but the light isn't available yet. -
I love Motown and 50s. I just about cried when the local oldies station shifted to format to take the emphasis off of the 50s so that they could add the 70s. Buddy Holly, Richie Valence, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Four Tops, Spinners, Four Seasons, Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, Galdys Knight and the Pips, all those great one-hit wonders, Carol Kaye (played bass on _everything_), the old great Elvis, Chuck Berry, it was all good. I lost my entire MP3 collection a while back and my 50s collection never recovered.

My playlist: I have entire albums from They Might Be Giants, Weezer, MC Hawking, Mono Puff, Weezer, The Word, Cream, the Aquabats, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, P-Funk, and Ben Folds, plus a bunch of random songs from the likes of Tower of Power, Charlie Daniels, Primus, and Steve Miller.

If my container shows up tommorrow or Wednesday morning I might be able jump it Wednesday night. Otherwise it'll be next Monday at the earliest. I'm gonna go freaking insane if I have to sit around for a week with a jumpable rig. And don't tell anybody, but after buying a rig, helmet, taking care of some late charges at Blockbuster, paying for gas to get to the DZ, and buying a jump ticket, I might not be able afford my beer (especially if it's a Monday, then I'll jump the Otter and have two firsts). I'm poor and I don't care. I fucking love this sport.

Well, seeing as how my Mindwarp is on it's way, I guess I could be persuaded to part with my "US Navy Seal Military Skydiving helmut," sized large, color black. Only been used 15 times! Let the bidding begin...

I can't afford a girlfriend with the amount of money I'm spending on gear right now! Anyway, the canopy was colored a little bit differently than I expected. Orange top and bottom skin, blue ribs and stabilizers, with a black #4 cell. One more picture attached. Sorry, my digital camera spit out some unusually bad pictures. I didn't lay it out 'cause it came with the lines daisy chained and attached with links to a spiffy little card to keep everything neat.

It's a Spectre 170, used with 325 jumps. It's orange with a black center cell. I also see some blue in the mess somewhere. I haven't taken it out of the plastic yet because I don't have a container to put it in, but I poked a little hole to touch the fabric (I feel like a pervert), and it's still slippery. I'll probably lay it out later tonight and take some more pictures.

UPS man dropped off my presecond main. It's big, it's orange, and it's mine! All mine! Hahaha. I'm so giddy. See attached.

Proxomitron if you have Windows, FilterProxy if you use a Unix variant or are comfortable hacking perl on Windows. They aren't the easiest to use solution (not by a long shot), but they are really, really, poweful.

Ok, more thinking... If you want to take a cab to the train station in Champaign, you can hop a train that evening to Rantoul. It's only a 13 minute train ride, and it only costs $3.00. From there you're a hop, skip, and a jump from the convention.
