  1. So a guy is driving home from a bar one night. He gets pulled over, and when the female cop gets up to the window, she can smell the booze all over the guy. She drags him out of the car, slaps the cuffs on, and reads from her Miranda card, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you..." "BOOBIES!!!!"
  2. I'm partial to AnandTech myself. Tom's interpretation of some benchmarks have been dubious at best. On at least one occasion a clear loser was declared the winner.
  3. Check the left hand column. They'll be back on the 17th. They take a week off every couple of months, but this break is a lot longer for some reason.
  4. Not really. Technically any unlicensed MP3 player or encoder is using patented technology. Because of this, Fraunhofer (the people that hold the patents) wants you to pay royalties on any product, commercial or free, than can handle MP3s. Now, Ogg Vorbis, on the other hand, is totally free and open.
  5. Alright, I just bought a rig that will fit a Sabre 170 if I pack carefully. I've put a few jumps on a Sabre2 170 and a Sabre 170 and decided I liked the original Sabre better, plus I saw gobs of used ones for sale. Now somebody has put the idea of casual CReW in my head, so I was taking a look at Triathlons and Spectres. I checked the handy PIA canopy volumes chart to see if the Spectre 170 would pack small enough. The chart lists Sabre 170 volumes as 451, 445, 397 cubic inches for an average of 431. It lists the Spectre 170 as 416, 455, 424 cubic inches for an average of 431. So whats up with the variations? Canopy wear and manufacturing differences? And will the Spectre fit in my container (sorry, I don't have the exact sizing info yet)?
  6. Those are my personal favorites. cdparanoia might run under windows, but as far as I know Grip is Un*x (maybe even Linux?) only.

    200,000 !!!

I'll take my birthday, Saturday, October 12th.
  8. It appears that the cookie "gforum_sessionid_session" is not being properly cleared when a user logs out. Sessionid is, of course, a session key that varies between users. Fix for Mozilla users (and possibly Netscape): Open Edit->Preferences. Select "Privacy & Security," then "Cookies". Click the "View Stored Cookies" button. Scroll down to the Dropzone.com cookies, select the "gforums_sessionid_session" cookie, then click on "Remove Cookies".
  9. Sky Knights a couple of weeks ago: Fred took a really fast downwinder into a barbwire fence. Wait! It gets funny! So everybody runs out there to see if he's ok. He was on his back, folded at the waist, feet over his head. His ass had gone under the fence all the way to his knees so he was pinned down, laying there screaming, "Get me the fuck out of here!" He was fine, and walked away with a few cuts and a free lesson in how to read the wind sock. Terrifying to hi-larious in 15 seconds.
  10. Hehe, at my summer DZ there is a guy who only stows at the grommets, then neatly coils the rest of the lines in the bottom of the pack tray. He claims to get softer openings, but everybody else is too scared to try it and see if he's right.
  11. You said it yourself: If you think that, "they will probably kill themselves or worse, others."

    Weekend Numbers

Replying to myself... I just got off of the phone with my home DZ. Now I have a $1200 check in my hand. It's the single most expensive purchase that I have ever made. My savings account will be far down into the triple digits for the first time in years. And I don't care. Like Tomas says, I owe "BEEEEEEEEEEEEE" now and I'll owe "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRR" once I get a main.

    Weekend Numbers

0:0:freakin' 0 Hopefully I'll be up to Sky Knights for an hour or two tommorrow. I'll probably just collect my logbook, but I might make a jump.
  14. Er, I think you should be packing the other canopy...
  15. You definately get less bitching from us Linux folks. There is no reasonable way to watch modern QuickTime videos on Linux. We can, however, watch WMV, DivX, AVI, and just about anything else without too much trouble.
  16. I won't show up, but Tomas said he would probably be there around 9-9:30 today.
  17. Boo-fucking-hoo. I work in an amusement park. I got to stand for 7 and a half hours and deal with drunken rednecks. How the hell can anybody afford to get wasted on $5.50 beers, anyway? Wasn't all that bad, I got to see some cool fireworks and I have a date on Saturday.

    Not again

Looks like El Al security "dealt with" the situation. Those are some guys you don't screw around with.
  19. I'm at home, but I'll be leaving for work in about an hour. 4-11 shift, sucks.
  20. You don't. HH has (wisely) set up the forums to allow only markup or plain-text posting to everybody except for the greenies.
  21. FallingILweenie will be there along with two other Falling Illini, at least on Saturday.
  22. Not a lot of time to answer, I'm late for work. With only 2 jumps on each: Sabre2 definately turns and flies faster. Openings are quite a bit softer on the Sabre2. Sabre2 requires a two stage flare, while the Sabre that I jumped didn't plane out at all. It is important to note that the Sabre I jumped was made in the early to mid 90s, while the Sabre2 was just bought this season.
  23. Hehe, they tried to organize a naked bigway for Eduardo's 100th on Sunday. A couple of people balked (including Alex, axe96bam on dz.com), so they just did a normal semi-big way. Which is to say, as big as you can get from a King Air with an AFF Level 2 on board.
  24. I went from jumping a Skymaster 230 loaded at about .8 to a Sabre2 170 at 1.1. Damn, that Sabre2 was fast. I put my feet down during the planeout on my first landing and had a pretty nice knee slide, but I flew the canopy all the way to the ground. I was fine and confident that next time I would get it right. I did, but the landings were still quick. Last weekend I put a couple of jumps on an original Sabre 170 with a few thousand jumps on it. It landed a lot easier than the Sabre2, almost as easy as the Skymasters. I feel just as confident flying and landing the original Sabre 170 as I do the Skymaster 290s and 230s that I learned on. I don't feel as confident on the Sabre2. So where the hell was I going with this? At a 1.1:1 wingloading, it depends on the canopy, at least for me. I probably wouldn't buy a Sabre2 170 right now but I am seriously considering a used Sabre 170. It's plenty fast and responsive enough for me, but I am completely comfortable flying and landing it. Err, this post sucks. Distill whatever usefull information you can.
