  1. Telling your packer about a problem, is one thing. Being a Prick about it, is another. Reserve ride, Sir? Maybe he'll like that opening better, since it just saved his life.
  2. Lisa, if you check my post in g&r, Wham!Ouch, you'll see i had a very similar experience. Slammed hard. I may have lost consciousness for a bit, I just don't know. 7 weeks later I still have pain and it hurts like hell to sneeze. Like someone is slamming me with a board. Even though I was able to fly it in, many times I had thought to cutaway as I had altitude and was right over the dz. Thinking about it later, if I had chopped it, what would the opening force have done to me. If I had to cutaway, I would've done so. Glad I didn't have to. Hitting that brick wall at 130mph, was something you and i, and anyone else will never forget. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Scott
  3. Thanks everyone. I'm sending my suit to E.G. on Monday.
  4. FJC, within 1 hour doing 1st solo canopy flight. end result. landed in power lines. cause: NOT listening to radio/NOT remembering what i just spent 5 hours learning. damage done: scarred leg. suggestion: you'd better be paying attention. pulled reserve pin to remove cypres for 4 yr check. reserve pilot chute slams me in the face. cause: stupidity / anxiousness (1st rig). damage: stunned (please wait 30 seconds while i get my senses or senselessness back) and amazed. something to laugh about for a long time. suggestion: don't try this at home. LINE DUMP. cause: packing error. damage: cracked rib and blown out end cell on canopy. shit hurt/s. suggestion: see #1. YOU'D BETTER BE PAYING ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING. going for poster child status :o)
  5. Thanks Chuck. Any idea if they have a website or how I might get hold of them. And yes, I need booties for my Flitesuit.
  6. Looking for input on add-on booties. Pros and cons. Are they worth the $65.00 or should I just invest in a new suit. Thanks.
  7. Check my post Wham! Ouch. to see my latest problem. I'll try to get a photo to post of this grommet (s/s) problem for all to see. The mfr. will also be made aware of this problem also.

    WHAM! OUCH

I didn't get the canopy new. The person i got the rig from, had bought everything brand new and had put only 7 jumps on it in 4 years due to being in the military and work constraints. I'll be getting in touch with Para-Flight to see what help they can offer, but the latest i've heard is that they no longer produce sport main canopies. I'll post updates.

    WHAM! OUCH

today i had the hardest opening that i hope is the worst i'll ever have.jumping a turbo zx 225 made by Para-Flite that opened so hard that i blew out 1 end cell from front to back. canopy has 78 jumps on it and it didn't come apart at the stitching or line attachments. it appears to be material failure. my packing was no different than any other pack job that i've done. this canopy is TSO'd at 240# and i'm out the door at 230#. stable at deployment and my protrack says i never exceeded 128 mph.any thoughts on what could've happened and what, if any help, i might get from the mfr. would be appreciated. i did manage to land this thing, PLFing.
  11. today i had 2 riggers look at it and both said while it's not common, it's not uncommon either. right now that is the least of my worries. i now have a complete canopy problem.
  12. I noticed after my last jump that my slider grommets have line grooves in them. This rig has about 75 jumps since new. My question, is this normal? Would it be safe to either scotchbrite or sand out any rough spots? Should I get a new slider or have the grommets replaced? The grooves are fairly deep and I have microlines. Thanx
  13. check out 'The Ranch' schedule at ranchskydive.com. opens full time 4/08/02. if you're into hiking/rockclimbing, this is the place. ask about it at x-keys.
  14. 2 things i do whether i'm using a packer or not. first: stow the brakes. second: cock the pilot chute and check it by throwing it up and making sure it inflates by pulling on the bridle. when doing a pin check, check the window in the bridle too.

    Alti Mod

forgot to mention that my alti II was on my wrist when i got bumped. between myself and the other rookie on that jump, we had less than 60 jumps between us. i am not the most graceful person in the air, which is explains the bumping. gettin' better all the time.

    Alti Mod

keep this in mind. that calibration knob on your alti II, can get bumped and knocked out of calibration in the plane, doing RW, or anywhere else because of it's exposure. i found out when my alti II had shown 1000' and i realized "no way in hell". after sliding in hard, it's now showing 400'. i got bumped doing a pro/am rookie challenge. i now have an alti III on my wrist and the alti II stays in the bag, until i get a chest mount. lesson learned.
  17. i found a rig here that had been listed about 3 months. took a chance, since i was just off student status and lucked out. here's what i got. talon container, turbo zx main, swift plus reserve, cypres (needed 4yr check/batteries), alti 2, factory diver helmet w/bag, flitesuit, gloves, lg gearbag and pack mat. all gear was bought new in late 96. seller and i are almost identical in size, so everything fits real well. total jumps 7 price paid $2200. so, keep looking, ask questions and do some research. it pays off. Damn Power Lines !!!

  20. on my talon i always release the tuck tabs on this flap before i put my pc in the pouch. if this is done, i don't see how your bridle could get caught in the flap. just my .02 Damn Power Lines !!!

  22. If you're in a situation when you don't have time to cutaway your main and you pull your reserve, do the main risers get in the way of the reserve risers and cause any problems that might affect your ability to land. Damn Power Lines !!!
  23. i've got an HP cdw 8000 and i haven't had any problems with using them in my truck. i've used sony cd-r and memorex music cd-r. make sure that you choose audio cd's in your cd creator. hope this helps. if they play in your home cd player they should work in your car. my belief only.
