No shit man! There was this one morning on northbound I-405. My honey and I were both struttin' 5mph in the HOV (high occupancy vehicle / carpool to those unfamilar) lane. So there these jackass motorcycle cops (plural mind you) by the HOV shoulder waiting to net some poor f@#$. No more than 50 ft away on the far right lane, a fender bender had happened (probably within 5 minutes I'd say because I witnessed the occupants just get out of their cars). And none of these badge wielding mafia of a donut junky did anything to help. My other ride is the relative wind.

I just got an insanely great idea. So writing it down here, I reserve the right of ownership to this novelty of a money making scheme, that should it ever get borrowed or stolen, the borrower or thief, is obligated to share their profits with me. By posting on DZ.com, I will allocate a fraction of the profits with Sangiro for the upkeep of DZ.com. The rest I shall put towards buying jumps, beer, ++ at my discretion. Sounds lawyer enough? The scheme: All those stocks I own that have tanked... I'm going to have the brokerage deliver them to me. One share, one certificate. I'll frame them, and sell them as historical artifacts. I had something similar happen in the summer. One of those trucks that carry away cars that have been squashed-ready for recycling. Well... a drum brake fell off, and it was going on a straight line to me. I had to pull a "Jeff Gordon in Sears Point Raceway" manuever on that one. My other ride is the relative wind.

Let's not forget that the purchase of a home is not a bad idea either. And... you may qualify only once to withdraw (actually borrow) from your 401k, 403b, or IRA towards the purchase of your first home. Might actually be your best bet because you'll have to pay back the balance (your own principle) and interest (paying yourself, thus a little more leverage in maximizing beyond the maximum annual contribution). But please correct me anyone if I'm incorrect. My other ride is the relative wind.

Read my Too good to be true thread. Personally, stay away from mutual funds. It's loaded with tax liability, maintenance overhead, ++. Don't even get conned into them No-Load mutual funds - those money mgrs got to make money one way or another, and most likely it'll be you. CDs and T-bills are alright if you have idle money. But with interest rates right now, it might now be such a great idea. Stocks... Buy something that you already purchase goods and services from or regularly (but stay away from telecom - my bad experience) because it would be easier for you to qualify good reasons for buying their stock. Also, write to the companies you plan on buying shares for a copy of their annual report - they'll be happy to send you one. And it won't be a bad idea to join an investment club. Glad to hear everyone wasn't hurt. That's always a good thing. I remember getting creamed from behind (I was in a '73 Super Beetle) by a Toyota pickup. The impact was so great that I rear ended a Trans Am in front of me. I only had liability, and the jackass who hit me didn't have any insurance what so ever. The best I could do was to make some humor out of it: Since the 3 people involved were 2 hispanics and a chinese, and me getting sanwiched between the 2 - I made a dish to mark the end of the bad luck: A Tofu Torta!
