You need to read the Federalist Papers! The electoral college worked exactly as designed. It is in place to make sure that the elections are a country wide decision not a choice based on large population centers. Another choice is a product called Break Free. It is used in the gun idustry to clean and lubricate because it is non-corrosive. It sure smells funny though. Use a rag or towel with WD-40 on it to clean the cable. Wipe in this way until no more dirt shows. Then us use a clean dry towel to wipe it down until the cable appears dry. This still leaves enough to lubricate but not enough to collect dirt. At least that is my experience. I pack the reserve. I then add a question to the invoice that states "The manufacturers max recommended weight for your reserve is ________?" After (most of them) can not answer the question I fill in the number and I have them initial the invoice which I keep in my files. I do not ask them what they weigh......but I do get some strange reactions though. Most manufactures have the trim specs on line. PD even has a how to measure doc on line. I am a rigger and i do not know if water makes lines shrink but I do know that water can have a affect on the stiching on the canopy. My advise.....take your main to a rigger. Let him/her go over it and have the trim specs checked. One with peace of mind makes less mistakes. Now that you have opened the "legal" aspect of this discussion...........When I return a rig to the owner I have a quiz on the bill. That quiz is as follows, "The manufactures maximum weight recommendation for your reserve is ____________lbs." Then, once I inform them of that weight I have them fill in the blank and initial that entry. Dave made posting the picture of mine easy as he used the internet to put up the graphics (for my approval) as they worked on it. The picture I posted was the last revision of what they were working on for me. I approved it.......He made it! He wants to make sure it is exactly what you want and so far he has not had any problems working with me to make any and all changes.....and I agree with your statement "They are top Notch People" and I will add.......the altimeters and customer service are second to no one!!! I got my custom face altimeter from Free Fall Accessories today. The quality is great and they will work with you to get just about any graphics or picture on the face. All altimeters have a transferable Life Time waranty! (I attached a picture of it.) They are still working on the graphics for the Team Anvil one I am having made. That one will be in a stainless steel case.. He is going to have a booth at the Skydive Chicago Expo this weekend so they haven't been able to finish it. Back in the "Old" days" (when your first jumps were static lines hooked with break cord to the pilot chute of a modified round main and a hand deployed reserve mounted on your belly) one of the jumps I had to do was to go out the door and go limp like a rag doll for 10 seconds. Then go to the arch and deploy when you reached the correct pull altitude. That is still one of the most fun jumps I have ever done!!! That is how I was trained to get stable and it was a great confidence builder! For an eye or loop the buried measurement of line is aprox 3" to maintain the strength. For a straight splice like at the cascade it is aprox 6". Hope that is what you are looking for. It happened on a tandem rig last season where I jump. The other riser was worn badly too and had been missed during pre-jump inspections. All TM's were asked to take a look at the other un-broken, worn riser. They have all added a more close inspection of the main risers to their routine. They all disconect the RSL's and in the case of the one that broke the reserve would have been deployed into the trailing main. This is not posted to start the "they should have" comments because they all know "they should have....". I only wanted to get this out there because it is good information to know. You are right about the Strong Tandem reserve!!! I have done 4 of them and I still will not do one without being watched and having some one VERY familiar with that pack job right there to help me. I am a rigger and I have not been able to get comfortable doing them yet. (...and I will keep getting help until I am comfortable....) Hopefully it will make sense to me some day soon.
