Tandem - broken bridle upon drogue release - what would you do?
yarak replied to cpoxon's topic in Instructors
when put in the actual situation its hard to say what I would do. First of all how many precious seconds have been wasted till you take action. On a Sigma you would pull, feel the trap door, then a unnatural delay. You would naturally look up and see nothing. By that time im probably going straight reserve. Three reasons for this: 1. In reality im not going to take alot of time in the air to assess this situation or figure out whats happening. All I know is its below pull altitude and I need a canopy. 2. I want to deploy the reserve with as little wasted time as possible to avoid the terminal opening. Therefore im straight reserve. Also I'm not assessing too long. Any extra altitude you can save is just more time to deal with an entanglement. If I made the wrong decision initially then at least i have time to deal with it now. AVOID terminal reserve! thats a priority for me. 3. I would rather deal with a two out situation with a chance of a biplane or side by side. or cleanly cut away a downplane. If the main was hopelessly entangled I could assess whether releasing it would help or not. I certainly dont wont to start out with an already cut away main entangled with my reserve. Sure there is a chance that the cut away would be clean. It just seems to me that cutting away first might be limiting some of your options and potentially eating some altitude. You can always cut away afterwards but you cant reconnect it. I know this is very situational and there are alot of variables here. I just think most scenarios like this you would be better off keeping the main initially, then assessing after the reserve was out. By the way, 430 lbs is what I would consider reasonably big tandem load especially for a terminal reserve deployment I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -
Which DZ`s in your state accept Skyride?

yarak = karay. Thats pretty funny i never thought about that. But no its not Cary. Just for the record nothing was intended as a PA. It was done in humor. I've seen alot worse here from other people. I confused this place with our forum. I thought the forum was just a place to talk trash. I didnt know that it was used for serious conversation. I thought it was a place to waste time when you are bored. So you guys are serious about this skyride thing? I thought you were joking. ooops my bad. I'll leave you guys alone now and go back to my forum to practice my debate skills and momma jokes. I love you I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -

Which DZ`s in your state accept Skyride?
yarak replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Does a USPA DZ have to be owned by a USPA individual member? Can a USPA group member DZ be owned by someone who is not a USPA member??? uhhhh yea thats why its called a group membership. the owner shouldnt have to be a member. Otherwise there is no reason to distinguish between a group membership and a personal membership. So what you are saying is that if I am a personal member of the uspa, then I can also have a Group membership even if i dont have a dz? So if a personal membership is a prerequisite for a group membership, then i want a group membership as well and I want my home telephone number and address listed in parachutist as a group member. Blanket PA removed by slotperfect I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -

yarak replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
sorry for getting off topic let me help get a parachutist magazine and go to the DZ directory. there you will find a set of numbers. these numbers are called telephone numbers. Now what you do is pick up the phone and push the same sequence of numbers as listed in the directory. then a voice will come from the "other side". You ask "do you guys accpet skyride certificates?" If they say yes you send them a mail bomb. If they say no you go jump there and write them into your will. Why didnt the genius that started this thread just go make the list then post it. Instead of asking abunch of strangers to do it for him. you guys have made one good point here. Any group of people that use four pages on a forum to compile a stupid list that could of been done in one post cant possibly have opinions worth listening too. Which DZ`s in your state accept Skyride?
yarak replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
well you kind of just made my point. If more DZ's accepted them then the tandems wouldnt have to drive as far. Besides who really cares about that. I drive two hours just to fun jump. My first tandem i drove four hours and left happy as hell. When i found out there were closer DZ's i didnt really care. My own fault for not shopping more. Its called buyer beware. In the end i still made a jump and had fun. I didnt get screwed over. ANd the price i payed was competitive. So how was the customer getting screwed again? Its certainly not hurting fun jumpers. The USPA is at fault for trying to punish one company for another ones actions. The DZ's that lost their group membership have nothing to do with skyride on paper (where it counts). they are just owned by the same people. If you have a LLC and your business goes bankrupt. then your home cant be taken from you can it? The USPA had no right to revoke those memberships for something skyride was doing. So blame them for wasting your money by overstepping their rights. Besides I doubt its really going to hurt your pocket book. The USPA hasnt sent me a letter asking for help with court cost. So dishonest or not. the point is that anything they do to try to fix it you guys still try to make it negative. Are you guys against a nationwide reservations middle man in general? And why is it bad for these DZ's to outsource their reservations? Why would you want to intentionally try to hurt any DZ? If you guys are concerned with people having to drive far then why would someone suggest that people in california drive to arizona just to boycott these honest DZ's? Thats about stupid! I'm with skybytch. I dont care how the tandems made a reservation or where they came from. i just want to know how many loads we can fly today. ? I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -

I dont quite understand how you guys can call these DZ's dishonest for accepting skyride certificates. No one is getting screwed when a local DZ accepts the certificate. No Fraud took place, everyone made a little money and someone went on their first skydive. Its only bad when they sell certificates in places where they dont have affiliates. I think you guys dont want to fix the problem. You just want to hate skyride for things in the past. How about being part of the solution and urging these other DZ's to start accepting skyride certificates. then your precious whuffos wont get screwed. In short trying to hurt these DZ's that are accepting skyride is only hurting the sport. The DZ loses money, instructors lose money. and students are still buying skyride cetificates only now without a place to use it at. I think the way you guys go about things is twisted. You just want to bitch about old problems. And when skyride starts fixing those problems you want to try to keep them from fixing it. This is why skydivers dont need to be worried about politics. Stunts; pissing on our sport to make money.

------------------------------------------------------- I'm not special, but I am going to take issue when someone with little experience calls my credibility into question. I DO have the experience to back up the informed opinions I have. DO you? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have enough experience to have the informed opinion that this is a waste of time. You cant stay focused on the matter at hand because your ego needs promoting later hippies I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -

yarak replied to tdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
bravo!!!!!!!! I was just thinking how selfrighteous Diablo sounded. Why would he respond to my post like that? For your information Diablo I have seen people die and I have taught people to skydive. It doesnt have any bearing on my opinion of this stunt. I believe people are responsible for their own actions. If he wants to jump without a rig, then so be it. Is it stupid? Well yeah. At 250 jumps, im sure he is well arware of the dangers involved and the consequences. But it is still his life and his decision. I still cant figure out what seeing people die and teaching people to skydive has to do with this stunt? People die everyday.....thats the price we pay for living. Now get over it and stop thinking your are special, because you aren't I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -

human nature to push the limits. Experience in other extreme sports definately helps in skydiving. I say its a free country.......If you have the balls, commitment, and ability to plan a stunt like that then go for it! Who cares what the general public thinks. I dont skydive for them. I skydive for my own sastifaction. As far as examples for other skydivers goes who cares. Any skydiver knows the danger involved in that stunt. If they want to accept that risk, its there decision. Dont forget, pushing limits is what opens the doors to progression and new technology. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -
blah blah blah blah whine whine whine if you dont like it dont read it blah blah blah we will stop when skyride goes under blah blah blah. Why dont you stop blah blahing and start skydiving! You hate skyride...thats nice! Post it under the other skyride thread. Thats all I'm asking. Where are the moderators on this? If I copy and paste my response over and over they would delete it. maybe we should copy and paste the entire skyride thread here. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down.

blah blah blah......the same ol shit over and over. Thanks for starting another whiny bitch fest skyride thread. In case you didnt notice there is already one of these threads. Go there and read the same comments from the same 10 people 800 times. I wish you people would confine this crap to one thread, instead of littering this site with the same ol BS over and over. for the love of God.....get a life! i cant fill out the profile. Its against my religion. I never saw the relevance of it and people keep getting on my ass about it. I find it kind of strange that people put so much emphasis on it. I dont fill out now just out of principle

you are right its not worth a debate. It is what it is. I just thought it would be nice if they did that kind of stuff for cost. I was just getting my two cents in. I'm over it. moving on......... I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down.

i'm going to send a donation, but i have to say..... I think the USPA is rotten for charging that much money for a memorial page for its own members. Not like you are buying advertising space to sell something. It wouldnt hurt the USPA to donate that space. Afterall, those people supported the USPA. Do you agree with the way this demo was handled?
yarak replied to demopolice's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
looks like good level headed reasoning wins this round. It wasnt disrespectful, it happens when skydiving with a flag. The jumper had two choices. 1. slide in 2. hurt himself trying to stand up and tumble in. If he had stood up and then set the flag on fire i would say it was disrespectful. Otherwise it looked great. everyone involved were pros Looks like the judgemental do-betters lose this argument. hey demopolice.............authority DENIED!!!!!!!!!!! and please stop emailing the videographer with your horrible comments and foul language. You sir are low class. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -
to stay on topic and actually answer your question. I will say this. A brutal hard opening is pretty rare. When they do happen they hurt. But death from just a hard opening is very rare. There is usually other factors. Do you have any medical conditions? If not i wouldnt worry too much about it. Hard openings can create a malfunction or complicate a situation, but the opening alone generally wont kill you. I have seen broken lines, damaged gear, and broken sternums from freakishly hard openings but death from it is a long shot. If hard openings happened often or killed any number of people, then probably none of us would risk skydiving. P.S. In response to the last 5 or so post: I dont see where this persons place of employment has any relevance to his question. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down.

Getting back your main after a cutaway?
yarak replied to Blassiter's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
certainly dont ever try to catch a cut away main. IT WILL KILL YOU. I have yet to see a rig with telemetry. Like i said, most of the time you want need it. I jumped at the same DZ here in the south for 5 yrs. In all that time I have only seen one lost canopy. Granted there have been some we spent a long time looking for. The one that was lost was a tandem canopy chopped at about 4000ft on a long spot. I believe some whuffo probably picked that up and took it home. I have my own personal telemetry. It isnt a system that has been marketed for skydiving. Right now I am not using it because I am jumping a cheap canopy and havent been in a hurry to put the modification on my new risers. I'm surprised the idea didnt take off. I guess people just so rarely need it to find a canopy, and the cost of a receiver is pretty high. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -
Getting back your main after a cutaway?
yarak replied to Blassiter's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In forest or swamps i might consider some telemetry on that thing, especially a expensive canopy. Its rare that you would need it but if i chop a 2000 dollar velo on a long spot. I sure as hell feel better knowing i have that telemetry I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -
Taking a Chicken on a Skydive -- Animal Cruelty?
yarak replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
its a nice debate skydyvr. Imprint basically does mean he thinks hes human, or he thinks you are a parrot. Either way he thinks of you as equals. Imprints are birds that are taken from the parents to young. therefore they "imprint" on there new human parents. It makes for a bird that has no natural predatory fear of humans. Therefore no respect for you. You are its equal. This leads to problems with birds that are naturally territorial. When the bird matures it shows aggression because you are in its territory. They will also show mating behavior towards you. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -
Taking a Chicken on a Skydive -- Animal Cruelty?
yarak replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I have alot of experience with birds of all kind. chickens are not as intelligent as parrots, so its hard to compare the two. Perhaps your parrot is sad when you leave because you are source of entertainment for it. when you leave your bird is bored because he is stuck in a cage. Parrots are naturally active birds. Your bird isnt "sad" to see you leave. At least not the same way we as people feel sadness. When you leave it is more like turning the TV off. His primary source of entertainment is now over. I'm also sure that as a loving pet owner you give your bird treats. This is just building an association with you and food. Now he is excited to see you because he knows the possibility of food awaits him. I assure you most of his behavior is tied to these natural instincts. If a chicken pecks my hand and i reward it with a peice of food. Then what am i doing? I am reinforcing this behavior by taking advantage of its natural instincts. before you know it i have a chicken that runs to me and pecks my hand. Its not because the chicken is affectionate toward me. Its because it as identified a easy food source. Even though an observer might say "wow that chicken loves you" I know that it is not true. That chicken just loves food. so i think i am correct. also some birds are more social by nature as well. these birds generally show more "affection" towards people. This is really just transference of a natural desire on the only readily available cohabitant. lets not even get into the mind game that is imprinting was your parrot an imprint? I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down. -

thats why IQ is something that isnt useful in gauging an animals memory or intelligence. Basing an animals IQ on the same scale that we use for a human isnt practical. These are all different species with different brains and different maximum potentials. Now we could develop a chicken IQ scale then determine the IQ of an individual chicken. then use that number to differentiate between the smartest of the chickens. then you could see what number that was relative to on a human scale and we could make a direct comparison. Example: We might find that one particular chicken would be relatively comparible to albert einstien even though we all know this chicken couldnt do equations. But i bet he could find the hell out of some food and out compete all other chickens at this task. this chicken while not a scientist has however maximized its instinct and capabilities. therefore making it a "smart chicken" Its all relative people I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your fucking packing tent down.
