Rob, I talked to Ned yesterday. He informed me that they were in fact still supporting The older designs like you previously stated. We have been receiving several of the PISA canopies here for repair lately. We do manufacture some of the line sets already, and after Monday, hopefully we will have all of the info to make the rest of them here. Yep! It goes through the three hole guide, down in between the tension discs, over the check spring catch, down and around the finger pivot, back up through the guides and takeup lever, back down through more thread guides, and finally into the needle. Not really! The top ten were not very far ahead of the rest of the field. Take Hans Paulsen for Instance.... Won Speed...was basically in the top two.... had a couple of gigs and finished way down the ladder. The same went for SuperStu.... Exactly what I was trying to convey! The mods that we do have to be experienced before someone really knows what it is all about and can make an honest opinion about it. Again , I will use Hans for an example. He used to have an older canopy with our lines on it. He got a new one and it had the 16 carrier Vectran that PD uses (thick). He absolutely did not want to go to the comp without the smaller lines, basically stating that it flew like baloney with the bigger lines on it. T, I guess one has to jump a canopy a few times with the advantages and then jump a standard canopy to understand and feel the differences. TJ was jumping a Vectran lined canopy in Freestyle after he had issues with his Primary canopy(Technora Lined). He had a gig for not making it out of the water. That gig cost him 1st place. IMHO he would have made it across no problem with his primary canopy. As far as the clothing issue; we are starting to see cycling clothing appear already. T, I guess one needs to ask the top ten from the PST this weekend if they would have wanted to compete with large lines and non-removable sliders. Then ask them if they thought they would have placed where they did if they had the above dis-advantages. They all had 340 lb. Technora and RDS systems as far as I remember. I attended the meet this weekend for some R&D for a new project and general PR stuff. From that I observed quite a lot and made a lot of notes. The one big thing that stood out was you needed thin lines and a RDS system to win the Speed and Distance events without any question. Actually, I never though I would be saying this, but.... 1. Joe and I both have sold sliders to people who are not into competitive swooping, but use them working and shooting video. 2. I thought the "full" system was a little overboard for some of these people. I invisioned they would become sloppy packers and start having a rash of problems. But it seems that they pack very carefully and have had no problems that I know of thus far, using it as a everyday system. Feel free to contact either of us if you have further questions. Sparky, For a qualifier; in the year 2001, 1109 canopy related PO's were generated by that SB here in my shop. That included test jumps,pre-SB testing and mods,initial SB compilance,and other work. And no, I personally did not do all of the work, but my shop did. Enough about my qualifications. And again, I say yes. If you are placing a canopy into a smaller, less compliant container where there is little room to spare with let's say a white canopy. That statement comes from a few thousand reserve pack jobs. Sparky, No Myth..simple fact! I have repaired about as many canopies as half the number of days you've been jumping. It is my findings with the above statement along with serveral other manufacturer's findings,that certain fluorescent colors and silver have a shorter lifespan. Sparky, I used to work for a Textile Dyeing plant many, many, moons ago. As far as natural material (white) vs. Dyed material, the dyed material will have more volume and weight. Hence, more pack volume. Also darker pigments will tend to have more weight than lighter colors. The same principal applies to paint. Fluorescent colors do degrade faster than other darker colors. If you happen to have or run across a canopy from the early '90's that has a multitude of these type colors, try pull testing the different ones. The fluoresecent ones (lighter colored) will fail at a lesser pull force that say darker colors. Dark colors refract (turn away) some of the UV rays. This generates heat. This also why dark colored cars is warmer to the touch than say a white car. A far as the "more silicone" issue; never heard that one! Here we go again.... There are two types of parachutes in the FAA world; approved and non-approved. When reading the FAR's understand that it will read as such in the language. Repairs are classified as major and minor, not certificated and non-certificated repairs. That means you can have major and minor repairs to both approved and non-approved parachutes. 65.111 is usually misunderstood by most as it has cloudy wording and needs to be clarified to as such.
