Dropzone Pilot on a PPL?
lekstrom10k replied to orribolollie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You can get a restricted commercial and be legal . You need 10 hrs complex time as if any jump plane you would fly would be retractable. You are restricted to 25 mile radius to do your climb outs so you might be restricted on some demos. Just land and start your 25 over again. You have all the cross country and manuevers of a full commercial and need the same medical only with a tether. Any way the license your refering to is a private pilot license. in a SEL catagory Single Engine Land. Hope this helps -
How many jumps do you put on a container?
lekstrom10k replied to PhreeZone's topic in Gear and Rigging
My Talon2 has over 4000 on it . My vector has 2200 ,its getting a little raggedy . I asked Sandy Reid what the life span of a pilot chute was ? he said 600 to 700. Mine had 1300 at the time .He could sell me another one if it wasnt working OK . he saw it again at 2000 and moved the knot on the shock cord a half inch. At his request I sent it to him when it was retired at 2300, to show his student riggers what wear and tear of those jumps did to nylon. In the check box for material . I wrote you pick I abuse gear Its worked great ever since. If you are only making a fashion statement go ahead change . I would rather jump more. -
Does anyone remember the scene from "10" when Dudley Moore goes back to the preachers house..When the little old lady Mrs. Kissel lets one rip the dog howls and runs out of the room. When asked what that was all about the preacher said whenever she breaks wind we beat the dog. Sounds like a few companys I have worked for.

As already said above me they were made that way for a full sink landing. The Para -Plane Cloud even had a vent hole in the middle. If that wasnt strange enough the Vol-Plane also had a slot and flap with a little more brakes you could back up. It even had an hydraulic cylinder with a valve you could stage your opening time.As expected this was pre slider days. The wierdest I saw was the Foil in the early 70,s with the adjustable risers. It was a single riser off your Capewells to a connection up a few inches where a single band went up to your front and rear riser. You would decide before the jump what the winds might be. For high winds make it nose down for penetration, nose up if you wanted more glide. You couldnt change it like Crewdogs friction front riser straps. But then CRW came many years later. As your post stated it was indeed an accuracy canopy.By the way my Unit said it was OK to undo the single stitches that held them on . It was a patent infringement if they didnt sew them up. They also had cross port holes laid out owners could put in with a hot knife but they couldnt, same reason.

Anybody notice how well the velcro was working on lanyard of the reserve handle ball? I slso wondered about the lower strap tightness. When you are to cool for school no one learns. I would be embarassed if that video got out, from the DZO on down.

What is your most creative and insulting insult?
lekstrom10k replied to Calvin19's topic in The Bonfire
When you get a stupid comment from a fifty jump wonder who has downsized to a canopy beyond his wildest dreams, but hasnt crashed yet. I will tell them "I will be around to piss in your coffin, and still jumping when I do it".When they do finally crash I will get the divot, take it back to the hole ,then pace it off to where they are moaning and groaning. Dropping it on their chest saying "Think it hurts now wait until tomorrow. By the way it was only 38 paces, the record is 41, all for nothing." -
THe housing you see is the standard main ripcord . It went over the shoulder, past the reserve, then to the top right corner of the main container diagonally to the lower left.It was either two or threepin and you left one out stuffed your pilot chute in. Then closed the soft bottom flap put in the last pin and tucked the corners. The Jump Shack Super Swooper was the only rig tha you pulled up as the housing went down under your arm to the main container.

The results came back and Don King is my dad

I always liked the additional comment to your quote "Somebody hold my beer". Kind of makes it necessary to check the box in the police report was drinking involved?

There used to be a Tri-Motor at Port Clinton, that flew to Put -in-Bay Ohio with tourists on Lake Erie. I first flew in that in 1958. The oil pressurs gauges were on the engines and you had to look outside to read them. It also had about a 4 foot stick out of the floor between the pilots . If pushed straight back you got both brakes if shifted to the right only that one for taxing etc. It was jumped a few times, but by todays prices it was a$90 hop and pop. The one at Quincy was definitely a Bush Master. The lady sitting facing Aft to take a picture of your exit.By the way during the week the trimotor was the school bus for the island kids at Put-in Bay, what a ride Huh?.

Looking for Z-Hills Cessna 196 Pictures (70's)
lekstrom10k replied to RogerRamjet's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I dont recall aC-195 as having straight cowling like the photos show. That to me made it a C-190, The round curving cowling with the protruding rocker cover clearance caps made it a C-195. I jumped the one a Z-Hills in 1969, And was also told then the196 designation was a hoax.Nobody wanted to sit sideways in the like C-206U exit unless your jump suit was ready for a wash any. There was a clear line as to how much was hanging out. Some guy that flew it signed my log book "sporting Tuna # 1 -
Does anyone remember the name of the cat from Rantoul. It was either Centerline or Runway being found there after the storms went through.I doubt it would mind if you borrowed either one

Our last count was 79 up a little from last year. It seems we are getting a lot that are bussed in from obviously different cities.I wil still do the same again next year too. Never had soaped windows or rang door bells on devils night like I did.

Our DZ is just north of Michigan International Speedway. We often get pilots for NASCAR drivers coming from southern states with nothing to do until Sunday night, after the races, Alot of them jump too. We had one on a load that went a little low and back a few feet looking lonely . At break off I swooped him and gave him a kiss pass. After landing and walking back I saw him wiping his mouth with the back of his glove. After spitting he said "Ya dont never kiss a good ole boy".Later he said thanks at least he got to touch somebody in freefall. Their back home fall rate was faster. It was always good for a case of beer when Mr Macho had to admitt he got his first kiss pass from a guy.

What is the one on his reserve for then? The main is a standard C-9A and quarter panel 28 ft canopy in a standard rig. Piggy backs didnt come out until around 1964. Not known to many was that Captain Kittinger was shot down during Viet Nam and was a POW for about 4 years.By the way the blast handle was an easy way to pull either hand.

Not knowing what canopy you have its hard to tell what dimensions you need. If you side pack stack you main its easiest to check whats going on,Your canopy specs will tell you how much distance from your "A" to "B", "A"to "C" "A" to "D".My SabreII has3,10 .20.75 EG +or- .500. The tail to brake set is 8 inches means the tail should be 8 inches above the "A"to open good. Check your shortest steering attachment and see if its above the "A". Adding below the loop is only relative to your comfort range.Less tail droop and toggles to knees flares. The tail to low it snivels ,up to far it dives to open. and still takes forever. my canopy only has 500 on it and my cascade to brake loop is almost three inches short of the 105.62 factory specs. time to change.I will check the other specs at tha time and if they are really wacky, its time for a new line set.You could chase the steering lines, but only overcome a symptom not the problem.

Hate to disappoint you , but that has been done years ago about 1969.It was in a U-206 no door as was the style . the couple was going at it announced they were close ,the pilot 0-geed kick the rudder and out they went. The only real Mile-High is when you are flying the plane yourself, and do it.You have to be a little limber and can trim a plane right. Ask Bill Booth what FUC-1 is all about. Dont know how high those numbers got.I'll give you a hint the "C" is for canopy. If you arent shy a Caravan or Otter will work good too.

This is not a Delts 11 maybe a prototype, It dosent have the steering flaps under the outer skin and dosent have the vent slits on the top.I never saw a Delta 1 maybe this is it.The lower leading edges went a lot lower and cupped like the top skin of a square nose . There is no OSI wrap either.
-
The trick to get a Delta11 to open was by removing the last wrap. Then retape it. I had two of them and never cutaway either in 125 jumps. I had 1 baby plane ,3paraplanes and3 Para-Commanders all in rigs at the same time .At 9 in a row without a repack you almost do a day without repacks on Cessna DZs. I also had no trouble out flying Strato-Stars and easy to bear PCs. It had a 26 foot nose line which made full stall drop slack line canopy behind you fun then full up dive over the top slack line below you. Mine had British Army Team steering modification done on both of them, got a real nice dive below you spins. I still have one relined to para dactyl specs with both sliders.Never flew worth a damn after that.Lucky and Billy Webers ad used to own the one I have, but he never got to land it.

I have made way to many water jumps, including 5 into the Detroit River With a 7mph current. I dont ever remember a canopy coming close . It was always behind me as a normal into the wind landing. The thing yahoo USPA people never stress is the lack of depth perception. I have seen people wow the wuffos by cutting away just before getting their feet wet. One guy tried to assure the rescue boat thats exactly where he was, but they saw it as 20 orso feet up .when he finally regained consciousness. An old seaplane trick was to throw out charts or floatation gear to aim at for their landing passon a calm lake..With the North Korea bomb scare going on they will probably add something to the SIM "if your in freefall and see the atomic blast cover your eyes and pull." Well it could happen and you cant be to careful. Of course others wiil say pull and then cover you eyes Thats USPA

It seems to be at Freakport. If somrone was good on a confuser they could blow up one of the T-shirts it always had a year on them. Cant judge it by the rain on the ground .It seemed it always rained once each year.Still had fun every time.
-
I got a copy of that show, you missed that there were also no risers on his rig either. I like when he says whats this picking up a board in the back of the cardinal? the pilot says you put it on your feet and fly with it. Of course he does a spectular job first time out. The oriental guys hanging harness trick is almost Fandango style.

Whatever happened to just asking for green cards, all of a sudden they can speak better than Oxford professors.Say something nice like you are living proof of what the Indians did with the buffalo. If that doesnt get a response, maybe thet really cant speak english.Another thing you can do is get a car battery or charger and hook it up to car horns you hid in the bushes with a remote wire and button. At very inconvenient times blow that horn . After a few times with no one there they might get the hint. If you know any one with INS on a jacket does wonders.

I am the only one who can drive my very very rich and old aunts cat to the vet. I,ll only be gone a while then the vets office was packed on returning.I always liked the vision problem trick just dont tell them "I just cant see being there". I always liked it when they come up to you at quitting time Saturday and ask if you could come in Sunday, because one of their pets couldnt. My reply, Boy did you pick a wrong time, tomorrow I get my perfect attendance pin at St Mattress I have to be there {weather looks great}. By the time they get about 10 steps they realize you just put one over on them they wont turn back to admit it. Also have someone from a phony dentist office with a cancellation and you have to leave right now. Otherwise your appointment isnt until Nov 22nd.Sometimes K-Mart called and has an opening as a shopping cart retriever and you cant pass up an opportunity to advance your career. They will scratch their heads as you drive away.

I had a Classiflier with Frap- Wraps and Unit #26 with a Strong 26 ft LoPo.Guess how many times we parted company Did you say 20+ please pick lottery numbers for me OK. It never failed me or even scared me. I had a spool of line and relined it packed both canopies and was ready to go again. I had back to back cutaways 4 times but never three in a row pissed me off.I finally modified the unit steering lines and never cut it away again in the 600+ I put on it. Sold the rig to a Crew Dog that had no trouble either. Can you remember the name of the system that had cloth covered aluminum plates on the harness and one plate sewed to the riser bottom, All had a hole drilled inline with grommets to protect the gutted 550 loop that the cutaway cable passed through. Dont remember exactly how it worked. Some Indiana guys had them . Gear was very territorial back then. It was unusual to see anything from out west or even east coast stuff like Jerry Birds rigs. You werent as classy as me. Nothing but the best I used Rip-Aire sailtape to hold my baby plane together, in colors that almost matched.I went through the joy of ropes and rings. and bless the day sliders came out.
