  1. One of mine I learned over 40 years ago and is still current. NCO As in the Army non commisioned officer. Actually NO CHANCE OUTSIDE. As Jethro used to say "I'll put my Sixth grade education to use and do some CYPHERIN .It was said" I kant spill sergint but I are one"
  2. That sounds like our" I scare-us" Icarus openings. The Sigmas we have are the same as yours but opposite openings. You grin and look up oh yah its open . I can get you in touch with our packer and have him line you up. So I wouldnt say its the nature of the canopy .and live with it.
  3. That same U-206 is still in operation at Harry Brown Airport in Saginaw forWild wind Skydiving. He in fact opens this weekend there. Do you remember Rich Druillard from Charlotte days. he lives in Warren now. If yoy think of anyone else I might be able to track them. One thing about jumping Cessna's you could always make your money last the week end.Not like the oil burners and broke by 2PM Saturday
  4. We did a 16-way out of 2 1956 C-182 and a 1953 C-180 It was pretty common to put 5 in a C-182. That was before the oil embargo and FAA was less bothersome than now. Our biggest formation was a T-Bow a Beaver a C- u206 4 C-182's and a C-180 It even worked too
  5. The ones you really have to watch for are the Nimbo-Cumulus like the ones at Rantual last year. One plane brought their guys back down ours went anyway We got to see a pretty light show too all around us One guy from Iowa got encores as he got sucked back up a few times. We were all sent to the shower building to wait a catagory 3 or 4 tornado to pass after it already touched down nearby. Nimbos can go with violent up drafts to 40000 or50000 feet. There is a book called "I rode the thunder" all about it
  6. I know a past DZO that would say "I am glad I'm not superstious , knock on wood" She would then rap her knuckles on a particle board plastic coated desk. Well its sort of wood.
  7. When I made my first jump on 09-08-67 we flew in with a C-175. It turned out to be the jump plane as the other one didnt show up. We pulled the door and co-pilot seat, ready to go .That was pretty much the norm back then It wasnt until the early 70's, that you could take out the back seat add seat belts and take four
  8. How about a Mexican condo with a penthouse
  9. It was a requirement to get the rating. When I did mine there was no drogue . As an experienced jumper I knew we were going really fast and was surprised the opening wasnt all that bad for the speed. I landed Mikey in the peas for his first time, in spite of his whining.
  10. The only thing wrong with her pack job was the flap closing sequence. As far as the line tension that was the joy of a cross bow it was weight enough. With a chest mount rig you had to have someone stand in your rig leaning back with it around their hips..The packing stake was still needed. Ok back to the closing sequence. You would flop the pilot chute to the bottom An MA-1 was better than the A-3 soft top she had . some used two yuo held the top flap in your right hand and pulled the left flap grommet over the top flap cone then brought thr right over tha left flap, then put in the top ripcord pin . thats when you collapsed the pilot chute with your handsand stuffed it under the flaps already closed. now you pulled the bottom flap up under the flaps and made the cone go through the lower left flap grommet . them you tugged the lower right flap over the cone and put in the bottom pin . She never did the bungies on that one either followed by tucking the corners with a fid. the canopy was a 28ft Lo-Po and should have the toggles on the back of the rear risers. The canopy that opened next was a PC and the toggles were on the back of the front risers, they would of had more tension and be up at the rings. I doubt she was more than a foot off the ground when it was shot. If any one can dig up old TV scenes there is one of Rock Hudson jumping in McMillin . you can see the crane boom and the 20 foot or so hoop to hold the canopy open in the shadows. You just see his feet landing from two feet up and the canopy dropping on him. AH yes the magic of TV. The car and Stage coach scenes with them still and the back ground flashing by.. Oh by the way I dont love her any less. I only remember people got to see her boobs one time in Las Vegas with a wardrobe malfunction. No janet Jackson didnt do it first. As i said in other posts Jeanies belly button and Annette Full of jello in a bikini werent seen either. Thanks again airtwardo for the great work
  11. I was referring to the experience level and history at the table . Since then I heard we lost 2. How many landed under a 24 twill reserve , a 7tu or a pc . Or what are ropes and rings? Is a WDI yellow or green? Whats it like to make jumps for 30+ years without a GPS .
  12. I am surprized no one mentioned Gina Lollabrididididididigia. She was hot in the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Sophia Loren in Boy on a Dolphin. As for Morgan Fairchild wasnt her name like "Diane Smith" at birth. Didnt Harriet {of Ozzie &harriet Nelson and Beavers Mom wear the same pearl necklace when they washed dishes ?
  13. I regret that with no WFFC this year I wont be able to have breakfast with him We did fot the last couple of years Along with a few other well seasoned skydivers. I guestimated we had at one breakfast over 250 years and 60000 jumps between the 6 of us. It was sad to see all the pups not having a clue
  14. I always thought the C-190 had the straighter barrel shaped cowling. The C-195 had the curved cowl with the protruding rocker-arm clearancesfor the bigger engines. I jumped the one at Z-Hills in 69 or 70 before it got painted for the world meet . I saw one on a Parachutist" calendar a few years back with a step mounted under tha door, It looked easier than the bomb out C-U206 type exits we did back then.
  15. Did you ever see' Grumpy Old Men" when Walter Mattau poured the milk for a guest ? coffee and it came out in lumps. I think he said when asked "It smelled OK to him".There was another movie that was similar to it The guy said to his wife or girl friend "Didnt [what ever name on the carton] go out of business three years ago?" I recall the date as being the last day the store could sell. Not the last day it was drinkable. Just carry a new pair of undies and baby wipes with you and not worry so much
  16. I got an advanced open water rating in 1980 or so. It got real expensive at the place Iwas at and quit the day I got my card signed. Out of a 30 person class only 7 graduated. They wouldnt sign off my night dives unless I bought an official "Scuba -Pro night flashlight. You had to buy official "Scuba - Pro lens defogger, no spitting on your on face mask like everyone else. I was commited into it. then gone . It would be like buying an altimeter for a tandem jump certificate sign off. The owner was told by me if we tried that in skydiving we would be out of business in a week. He almost made it through the summer. I still smile driving by his vacancy sign
  17. Did anyone see the Raqual Welch skydiving movie? She was a super spy that jumped into the villians castle. She jumped a Lo-Po main and had wraps around her Shot1/2.s. She could also sit in the open door of a C-182 on hot run without getting her hair mussed up. I also have Beach Blanket Bingo movie with s true hottie of Mickey Mouse Club Annette Fullofjello taking a first jump course. You sure could tell she didnt buy her T-Shirts in the boys department any more. I used to have a Wonder-Woman and Farrah Fawcett posters near my tool boxes at work for many years. On another thread I said Bailey from WKRP in Cincinatti was the only girl for me. I always enjoyed watching Lynda Carter after running or kicking somebodys ass. Above this post is a picture of Jeannie, Did you know that her belly button was never seen. Also as a promise to Walt Disney Annette never wore a Bikini in any of the beach movies.
  18. Don Kellner may have more jumps. but ask how many are above 4000. Also how many are solos. Bill Dause has 500 + hours in free-fall and jumps with anybody. I am proud of him To me the comparison is like a guy playing Putt-Putt golf 3700 times and saying he is as good as Tiger Woods [last count 30+ skydives too] Ya but Don got it through the wind-mill for a hole in one back in 1996
  19. I was asked by an old time jumper if I could sell gear of his neighbor's deceased son. She had it under her house trailer for 5 years. Having never jumped a square main or reserve, even a piggy-back he assured her it was worth millions. Her son a friend was 6'5'' and 240 lbsBeing tha size would make match up's even harder. He had a crew canopy for a main and a 165 reserve in an old Vector. The cypress was very expired and the harness was very stinky. I sold all I could but no one wanted the harness. She was happy with what she got about half of what Bob told her. I was at our DZ a few years later and asked by a resident of the town about old rigs.He had a brother with M.S. just like my wife. He wanted a harness to hook up to a cherry picker type thing to lift him off his bed and toilet. He also wanted to hold him upright for leg exercises too. He was told by hospital suppliers it was about $500 . I told him it was closer to 24. He got a lot happier when I told him 24 beers' I stripped all the unneeded stuffof then handed it to him. I heard from him later it worked out fine. There are M.S. centers all over and other groups that might be able to use old rigs so give it a thought be fore tossing one out PS he helped drink the beer so it all worked out
  20. Through the whole replys no onw ever mentioned. who was the most at fault? The other jumper flailing seemed to be behind the camera guy. The video shows no attempt to relocate him. The canopy with a 180 off heading opening .No attempt to do a down and right riser turn.Did the other guy even know as he was lower and going straight, was there any communication. If my canopy opened that way I would try packing changes to over come the turns, or get a different canopy. How many others were on the load? If yuo cant keep track of one, do solo hop and pops, and learn to pack
  21. I totally agree it was the "BIG GUY", as called by Herb Tarlack. I always loved "Bailey" and wondered what happened to her. Loni was no slouch but Bailey was so adorable. I always related the show to reality. I have been in offices just like that. " The Office out now is almost like it without the nepotism. They have a skydiving poster too.A lot of people wouldnt believe how close "Bettle Bailey" is to real Army life .. If any one has a picture of the base ball game with Bailey and Lomi in shorts . I would like to do as Rodney Dangerfield said about Farrah Fawcetts poster " Hold it up with one hand in the bathroom" Any one remember Less and CHI-CHI Rodwekweze?
  22. Your brakes are goverened by the loop to the tail .Your toggles are relative to you and arent involved with the opening. Do you have a big loop on yoursteering lines after opening. If your toggles are at the rings and it tucks the tail down. Then move them so you 1/2 mph faster. The distance you need to know is on a stack pack line check where is the tail to the "A" line attachment. this should be from the factory specs. If it didnt rock so severly to catch the pilot chute in the nose its not that much of a problem. Does anybody else at your DZ have the same canopy to compare to. Sometimes its the nature of the beast.
  23. I used to work for Dirty Dan the parachute man at Midwest Parachute Sales in Novi MI in the early 70's. We would find the Flare guns in the Triangle lower side flaps pocket on B/4.s. The surplus guys forgot to take them out. I remember the pull and let it snap back firing . Also the cartridges crimped like blank bullets. Sometimes the minimum survival kit too. It was a book on how to take your rig apart and make a blackjack ,tent clothes fishing hooks and line. Also for those who have seen 4 different quarter panel round reserves it was for signaling and camouflage . Back to the flares they worked great we never got around to telling Dan we found them.
  24. About 4 1/2 years ago as fund raiser for M.S. I made 60 jumps for my 60th birthday. It took 7; 1/3 hours only the last one was all the way up to 2300 .The rest were between 1500 and 1800 I was landing almost exactly 4:00 minutes. I didnt have to wave off or look for landing traffic I dont think there were any other DZ 's going either, they all had better sense. We collected almost $6000. MS was happy,I was happy There was only one rig with a pull out pilot chute of the 8 I used. The record still stands and maybe in 5 1/2 more I'll try 70. No malfunctions or bad openings either I was amazed at back to back Sabre 190's jumps the flying and penetration etc differences 4 minutes later. After I landed on 60 someone gave me a beer Then the sky cleared up. Iwasnt allowed up because of the news media so close. It can be done no problem but not recommended. Especially AFF graduates, PS We did a demo at 1200 in the rain jumping a PC and even got paid $5 to boot. Again not recommended but possible
  25. Kaset kahne was my tandem passenger a few years back at Napoleon Skydiving center in Michigan . Its about 6.5 miles north of MIS. or MIchigan International Speedway. I can get a date if needed as everyone is recorded.
