Longer break lines? Standard velo comes with the break line that so short that it is basically un-usable for me as it stalls at my chest level somewhere. Same velo, you can lengthen it and have it to have longer flare stroke. Same canopy, different length. So are you saying that same canopy(velo) went from less of a flair power to more of a flair power? Flair itself is not a subjective thing, however if one to say that "it has powerful flair vs weaker flair",,,,, I want to ask what defines powerful flair?? Wether the flair is powerful or not, that is subjective and it is a pure marketing slang. What defines "powerful flair"? Tell me a example of weak flair. This thread has gone to pissing match again. That's how things are at dz.com All I know for sure is that, if I have to pack it, I much rather pack OP vs PDR. If I have to land it, I much rather choose OP over PDR. Just don't give me Micro-Raven 109. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

They all have the same flair, they all slow down enough to do stand up landing. Difference is one has longer flair stroke, making it less likely to stall on landing, vs the other has shorter flair stroke and some people will stall it prior to putting the foot down. I don't think OP has more powerful flair vs PDR, that's subjective. What is powerful flair anyways? Both slows down enough to have stand up landing. Is the other one not powerful? How so? If it has more "powerful" flair, does that mean canopy levels out faster given your length of flair stroke? This marketing lingo has to go, it only confuses people. How fast the reserve comes out and opens depends alot on packing, how long it has been in there, body position, and what airspeed you had during deployment of the reserve. I've rode opt 143 twice. Needless to say that it landed much better than my Smart 120 that I rode twice, given the same pack volume. One opened soft and the other opened fast. I've packed both of the reserve so they were packed in same manner, one that opened soft was packed within a 6 month frame, and the other faster opening was packed in the tray for almost 2 years. I think it really depended on how fast I was spinning under my main, one chop that opened slow(fresher pack job) didn't have much spin at all and the other one that opened fast(old pack job) I was spinning very fast. Both of the cutaways had RSL. Both slow and fast one opened within reasonable altitude I felt like. After both cutaway I was able to hang on to my breaks long enough to spot where my freebag landed. Both times the main were still inflated so I landed before the main did. The decent rate still felt fast even the size was 143. When I was hanging on breaks I still felt like the decent rate was similar to Smart 120 hanging on breaks. Maybe thin material makes the air escape through the fabric more??? However, the flair power was much better on Opt 143, given that it has way longer flair stroke and it flairs similar to normal main canopy. Pdr 143 and Op 160, both are big ass canopy imo. I'd only buy Opt 160 at that size for ease of packing then anything else. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Just spread the rumor that ISG is building a tunnel at Nashville. Ifly will break the ground and build two 14 footer surrounding Nashville area within a month. First, get the local newspaper write an article about a european indoor skydiving tunnel planned around local mall, amusement park, airport, ect. Second, create a Facebook page that the new european tunnel will soon arrive. Third, seat back, grab a six pack, and watch two 14 foot iFly tunnel coming to town near you. I'm pretty sure they will try to break the ground sooner than the european guys. I'm totally being serious. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

They are not going to make stairs to go upstairs, and the restrooms are located on top. You must fly up to the second level anti chamber. . . . Wouldn't that be awesome? Bernie Sanders for President 2016

That reply results in stalemate... That infamous 4 way team did have triple cypress fire. . Okay, I see no problem with 60 something year old skydiving, and that really, really depends on the Affi in charge of student progression of that certain school. 60+ year old can go skydive all they want at relatively safe dz. DZ, where it has ton's of landing area without obstacles or issues of turbulence. Close access to a tunnel so that the student can be super confident at basic body flying. Student's commitment has to be high, so that student remains current. I'm not talking 1 jump per month. I'm talking several jumps per week until student has enough jumps to feel like skydiving is equal to riding a bicycle. I've seen multiple 60+ year old who surfs shortboard every single day. Those 60 year old does not look or act like 60 years old at all. It really depends on that 60 year old's physical maintenance. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

have you ever been to SOS record jump? Well, it was only a triple cypress fire on one jump. One guy who fired cypress goes to rent a rig from SquareOne and goes, "Can I just jump without it?" . . "No, you definitely need cypress." Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Shaq flew in Orlando tunnel. It is not about the speed of the tunnel, it really depends on YOUR flying ability. At Raeford you should be able to fly with normal freefly suit. Baggy-ness does not equal to more lift. You can have shitty baggy suit that doesn't give you any lift vs tight fitting suit that is built well and give you more lift. Lift of the suit depends alot on its material, layering, and finally flappyness. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

I'm banned from one dz. get the facts right. and the other fact you have it correctly. I no longer skydive anymore, I just troll on dz.com, until I end up selling my velo, and I have no usage for dz.com any longer. I have found much better place to troll. Abstract In two online studies (total N = 1215), respondents completed personality inventories and a survey of their Internet commenting styles. Overall, strong positive associations emerged among online commenting frequency, trolling enjoyment, and troll identity, pointing to a common construct underlying the measures. Both studies revealed similar patterns of relations between trolling and the Dark Tetrad of personality: trolling correlated positively with sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism, using both enjoyment ratings and identity scores. Of all personality measures, sadism showed the most robust associations with trolling and, importantly, the relationship was specific to trolling behavior. Enjoyment of other online activities, such as chatting and debating, was unrelated to sadism. Thus cyber-trolling appears to be an Internet manifestation of everyday sadism. That pretty much sums it up. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

I think we got trolled as well, started as a good one, and turned into a quite boring one at the end. I may have one or two things to learn from this guy. Which trolling university did this guy attended to I wonder? Bernie Sanders for President 2016

I really can not figure that out. When you can pull one side, the other side pulls. Only thing that I can think of is, 1. You were not pulling on the handle, you were pulling something else and you were thinking that you were pulling the handle. Lots of students do this, we train them on the ground for hours and still some percentile just can not find where the handle is during AFF jump. (sensory overload) 2. You were not pulling hard enough, or you didn't pull it enough so that the pin wasn't pulled. I used to guide students hand to the release handle by putting my hand over their hand, and I would grab the release handle with the student's hand in my hand ......... and that started feel creepy and gay so I stopped doing that. 3. Last case scenario. When the system was packed, the closing pin was flipped in a fashion which it might have caused a hard pull. In that case if you were yanking the shit out of correct handle, then you might have helped the situation by loosening up the pin. Most likely 1 or 2. Did you land with the main or reserve? And if that one little thing freaks you out, you definitely should not skydive. You can have mal-function on your very first jump or you may not have mal-function for 1000's jumps. You can make 1000 of skydives without getting hurt or you may end up dying on your very first jump. The risk is real. Even if you do everything correct, there can be some other retard flying their canopy into yours. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Typical Sigma system has two handles, one on right and one on left. Both are attached to bungee cords so that people don't lose them. In the past handles where connected to taflon cable and people had to hold on to them, like the old Ripcord system. Back in the day student were taught to hold on to the ripcord or they were charged beer fine. Newer tandem system eliminated this by bungee cord and slightly different routing. As for the student rigs goes, they've got rid of ripcord system by introducing BOC system. That one you need to THROW and not hold on. You can learn about the system by looking at Sigma Tandem Vector manual. You can google it and you can download PDF for free. A lot of student hesitate when given signal to pull for various reasons. I've had people not pulling because just simply they wanted longer freefall, or they simply didn't pull hard enough. You gotta pull it with some strength and pull it far enough so that the pin disengage and release the drogue, pulling out the main d-bag. It is kinda like working with a firearm. You can not cock your firearm, when you baby the crap out of it. You gotta be delicate but you gotta handle it with some authority. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

What visa and easiest way to get one for working in USA?
stayhigh replied to chris.h's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Or you can just go mexican route and get yourself fake social security card and a drivers license and you are good to go, and if you look caucasian no employer will question your legitimacy, until they get a phone call by the feds, by then you've worked over 6 month and been cashing your check at the check cashing places. big guys just have to modify their body position to fly, I've seen 240+ dude sit flying at hollywood tunnel, and that is equivalent to normal sized people flying at old Orlando tunnel. It is all about how you can fly your body. I've seen 220lbs 6'2" flying HD off the net comfortably at Hollywood tunnel. Super heavy people just have to consistently move around, and not fly static. Heavy or light they all start the same, with low wind speed. Wind speed so low that you can barely pretend to sit, and once you demonstrate your ability the wind speed goes up. Until then, more back flying, more doing bullshit on the net. Those bullshit drill looks like bullshit but they help you and saves you money at the end. Lets say you totally skip back flying and go right into sit flying. what happens if you cork out? The time is running and you are gonna waste all the time just getting back to your feet, by the time you get back to your feet, time ran out. You need to get out of the tunnel. I've seen plenty of that happen to those who just wanted to sit fly. Wasting money. Big dude having high speed fall rate is just a excuse now days. You can slow shit down alot by flying your body properly. vice versa I've seen 135lbs, 5'4" dude flying topped out on his belly at Hollywood. Which I can not do, and I weigh 180lbs. It is all about flying skill. super slow tunnel and being able to fly all axis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI1uAdIhAe4 Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Fatalities: Skydiving versus Cancer
stayhigh replied to KPup's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
By that logic, they should've stopped selling cigarettes, long long time ago. Yes, more number of people die from cancer, more number of people die from driving a car but if all those number started to jump out of airplanes I'll bet more people will die from skydiving itself. People wrap themselves around when there is freaking 20 canopies in the air. Throw in whole world's population and have them all jump regularly? People will be dying on daily basis. Just from canopy collision. However you want to decipher the rate of danger, it is all up to you. If it was so safe would you have skydived in first place? Bernie Sanders for President 2016 -
Neck Injuries and the Physics of Hard Openings?
stayhigh replied to UpstateBonehead's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
any canopy can open hard and that includes Specter with Dacron lineset, ask Joe Jennings, Norman Kent. They primarily jump Specter with Dacron lineset but they will tell you that every once a while it will open hard. Not only main canopies, but the reserve may open hard time to time. In fact they are designed so that they open quicker than the normal main. I've only had 5 reserve ride and all of them were non-terminal deployment. Meaning I wasn't cooking at 120 mph+. They all opened brisk. I wonder how the reserve opening feels like when you have PC in tow or some sort of high speed malfunction. Head can travel either direction, towards your chest or towards your back, that depends on how your head was aligned at the time of hard opening. General rule is that you keep your neck straight as possible during opening until the canopy fully opens. Your natural tendency at first is to look up at the canopy. That stops until one day the opening snaps your head backwards. Real hard opening doesn't really give you time to prep for the opening. It just hits you, like getting slammed by a car. If you can prepare for it's hard opening and have time to do shit(like tuck your chin, flex your neck muscle, straighten out, ect) you are not really having a hard opening are you?
