  1. It's the "Black Daggers" , fool. I was the first and only person who was an original member of the team who retired from active duty before they were shut down for a short time right after 9-11. It was a fantastic deal.
  2. Nearly every single person that ever flew any of those suits died.
  3. Are there any white people at that boogie?
  4. Actually the suit that was on the ceiling was taken down and modified to remove some of the armwing area and re-try.
  5. I am an idiot. I am arriving on the 10th. Yes, I know that's very early.
  6. I am arriving at Hobby @ 5:05 PM on Airtran flight 288. Cyndi (TequilaGirl) offered me a ride, but I haven't followed up on it. On top of that, both of the trailers I was staying in (Voodew and Muffin) do not arrive until the weekend. I need a flat surface to lay on for a few days. It's likely that Jeff Nebelkopf and Tony Uragallo will be there by then, but I can't count on it. Someone please hook a brother up. PM me with available offers. Chuck
  7. open wallet, jump, pack.........repeat And I truly appreciate every one of those dollars, my young padewon.
  8. I used to check one and carry one, but now I generally just check both in one bag. It's worked for me for a very long time.
  9. There is a ton of shit to get into in Fayetteville. Plenty of bands playing during the week in town, about a million restaurants, rowdy bars, etc. If you are having a bad time in that place, you are just not looking on the right side of town.
  10. Raeford Parachute Center in NC has allowed 16-year olds for over 35 years. www.jumpraeford.com Opelika Skydiving Association (Skydive Opelika) in Tuskeegee, AL trains 16 year olds as well. www.skydiveopelika.net
  11. I have a question. I was pretty good friends with Mariann and I recall that she was loaded. She was definitely not hurting for money. What has happened which has prompted you to auction off your gear and give her son this money? Isn't the child's father a doctor or something?
  12. The touch screen controls eventually fail and the camera zooms in and out wildly on it's own sometimes due to wires getting chafed. I got three good years out of mine before I had to send it in for repair. It was totally worth it to me.
  13. Landing on rear risers is no big deal at all. As a matter of fact a good instructor will teach a student how to do it in the first jump course. It's either cat D or E that you have the student do right and left turns and practice flares on rear risers with the toggles unstowed. Ultimately, it's you, the pilot, who must make the decision whether or not your canopy is controllable or not. You landed safely so don't sweat it. Generally, if you get a toggle hung up like you had, you simply want to keep the canopy straight with the opposite toggle during the canopy flight and make turns my either pulling that one toggle a bit more or letting it up a bit. For the final flare you can either flare with one toggle and the stuck-side riser or both risers (unevenly), obviously being prepared to do a PLF. Another option would have been to cut the fouled control line and have the canopy fly straight, then land on both rears. I have landed just about every single canopy I have ever owned on rears. Mostly just for shits and grins, but on two occasions when I either broke a control line or had one fouled. It's a pure survival skill. Again, though, it's up to you whether or not you land it or chop it. Do what you have to do to get to the ground in one piece. Chuck
  14. I was in Deland about three weeks ago (maybe four) and happened to run into a bunch of USPA delegates and every single US tandem manufacturer. Apparently, they were having a meeting to discuss the "future direction of tandem jumping" in the USA. I did a cursory search on here when I got home and could find no thread discussing any outcome of the meeting. Would someone in the know (Bill Booth, Todd Spillers, Jim Crouch, etc) chime in and tell us all what conclusions you came to? By the way, if Todd Spillers is reading this: both of my arms felt like they were going to fall off two days after our impromptu arm wrestling matches in the bar that night. 17. Agreed. My only gripe is that the army didn't offer free laser removal when I decided one of mine sucked. Instead it took two separate coverups to make me happy. The downside is that it's much darker than I would like. I would have MUCH rather had the original one lasered off and just had a clean slate to work with. I have alot of ink.
  18. That Toyota with the 5.7 is the only import that I would consider towing a trailer with. Still, I would not consider towing anything over about 25 feet with it as it's only a half ton truck. It's my guess that Toyota will step up with a 3/4 and one ton dually in the near future. They would be idiots not too, seeing as how they have gone ahead and jumped into the full-size truck market here in the USA. FWIW, I tow my 40-foot fifth wheel with a long-bed, double-cab C3500 dually.
  19. I sent my clapped-out PC 109 back to the sony repair station in Texas and had it back in perfect working order in eight days (I think). It cost me $311 dollars (as I recall).
  20. I wear a PC 109 on the side of my Optik Illusion and I love it.
  21. I prompt my students to bring their arms out, but I never give them any indication that I am going to deploy the chute unless they are doing at Cat A or Cat B tandem. Beyond that, I simply do a jaunty salute to the vidiot and then deploy the main. If the passenger is a fat fucker, then I hook my arms under theirs at pull time. I don't EVER grab tits these days. It's just stupid.
