June issue of Parachutist...explaination please
SkymonkeyONE replied to 240m3srt's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Since Kallend piped in, I thought I would throw out this technical tidbit: When Jari H.M. Kuosma and Vladi Pesa did the first canopy/wingsuit dock at Delad nearly a decade ago Vladi was jumping a Velocity 84 equipped with similar front-riser trim tabs and 50 pounds of lead. One one of those jumps one of his trim tabs refused to release so he re-locked the "good" one down and he actually LANDED the canopy in that very-steep configuration with all that lead. He described it to me as "the longest ass-slide in history", but he was unharmed. Amazing shit. The stuff being done here lately is INCREDIBLY smooth compared to all of the earlier attempts. -
11-13 June DragonFly Wingsuit Weekend, Raeford
SkymonkeyONE replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? I will have a bunch of PF, Tony, S-Fly, and other suits. First Flights available, Two weekends away. CASA 212, Otter, PAC -
It must be noted that am the one who personally forced Purple Mike to start backflying.
-
Agreed. An original Sabre is actually a great wingsuit canopy. Wingsuit openings are entirely different than "regular skydiving" openings. "Straight" and "positive" are good characteristics of wingsuit canopies.

icaros crossfire VS neos VS Katana

Tony Uragallo (Tony Suits) jumps a new JFX and he said he really likes it. Almost all of his jumps are in a wingsuit nowadays by the way. -
I have ALWAYS said that "vanity" ratings are a HORRIBLE idea in the skydiving world. It's pure nonsense. Chuck

I have owned three Corvettes (and wouldn't mind having another), but I have wanted an old 911 for quite some time. I currently drive an old '84 944

What a horrible show.

Why Do You Skydive? (Psychology)
SkymonkeyONE replied to DHolland's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I skydive because the door is open. "Everybody outside, inside. Everybody inside, upstairs. Everybody upstairs, outside. Everybody outside, downstairs!" -
To those of you who know Freaksister...

April used to be a dirty, dirty girl. Nuff said. Chuck -
I was originally YMCA, then went to PADI, but now I am a NAUI Master Diver. Why one to the other? It's what they were issuing at the Special Forces dive school in Key West. You can buy air with either card and I can supervise dives with either card, so in the end it doesn't matter to me. Chuck

That may be fine for people buying trinkets and baubles, but for those of us who are looking to purchase a Porsche 911 and who do not want to waste endless hours online waiting for "those closing minutes", finding out EARLY what the set reserve price is is a tremendous help. I bid, set my maximum bid, then have the system tell me when I have been outbid and if (ever) the reserve has been met. I fucking hate E-bay, but there are a good number of Porsche 911's that come across the block.

Not sure why you mixed the tandem stuff with the XRW stuff, Phil. At least for skydiver viewing anyway. The XRW jumps merit the attention; not the charity.
-
That would be some funny shit, Kelly! Do it. Chuck

it was a great skydive. Glad I was involved.

Looks like around a 12-way for the actual ash dive. We are doing it at 1930. It's been a great day of wingsuit flying.
-
The ash dive is today. I am here and have nine jump tickets to burn, so lets get it on.

11-13 June DragonFly Wingsuit Weekend, Raeford
SkymonkeyONE replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Wing Suit Flying
What are you doing on the other coast, Zach? Yes, we are having another CASA boogie here at Raeford over Labor Day as well. THIS event is in conjunction with another event and I am simply taking advantage of the available aircraft. I am going to be gravely disappointed if I don't get any participation. Lord knows I have done my fair share of travelling. Chuck -
I think Joey Day is actually organizing the event.

Just finished my motorcycle safety class :)

There is one major problem with Buell Blasts: you will not find a Harley dealer that will service them any longer. You can find them for dirt cheap and they are good little bikes to tootle around on, but when Harley Davidson dropped the line, they also stopped servicing them as well (at least here at the huge Cape Fear Harley Davidson in Fayetteville, NC). I had a Buell XB9SL for a few years and LOVED it. I have a buddy with a Blast that I guarantee he would sell for around $1,500 if you are interested. Chuck -
CX150, ContourHD 1080p, GoPROHD Comparison Footage
SkymonkeyONE replied to bomb420's topic in Photography and Video
The Xdream .3 lens that I used to use on my PC 109 was in every way identical to the lenses sold by Liquid and the ones Max Cohn sells. I don't believe that anyone thinks ANY of the low profile lenses out there are going to give you GREAT HD resolution as compared to the larger, much-more expensive options. Still, I am totally happy with the low-profile Liquid .3 that I use on my CX7. I generally only shoot in SDHQ resolution anyway for the AFF and wingsuit video I shoot. Chuck -
I had a teammate die on a SL water jump in Antigua back around 1992. He got one suspension line caught around his neck just as he touched down in the water. He was being towed face-down across the ocean by the MC1-1C round main and was strangled by that one line. He DID have an inflated UDT vest on, but could not free the line before it killed him. A hook knife could have prevented the fatality. Bear in mind that this was a special forces combat diver, not some regular Joe who hadn't spent a lot of time in open water. In the military ANYTHING you do for training has to have a Risk Assessment attached to it. Risk Mitigation is serious business, brother. Open forum discussions like this one where people share their real-world experiences, their thought process behind different experiments, and their ideas for improved safety can only help the discipline.
