Having a cold and skydiving
SkymonkeyONE replied to Shadowplay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's frowned upon by medical personnel, but some people don't have the opportunity NOT to jump when they are sick. I can think of many instances, this entire weekend included, where I managed to jump while pretty damn sick. The cons are many, so you have to be the judge of what you can and cannot do from previous experience. The worse things to me are blowing out sinuses (which can actually be good in some cases) to ears that will not clear. I have slow ears to start with from 18 years of SCUBA diving, so that is what gets to me the most. If you can afford NOT to jump when you are sick, then you ought not do so. It's pretty damn miserable. -
New world record? Most tandems in one day
SkymonkeyONE replied to cpoxon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ah, I misunderstood the title. I thought you meant most tandems done by one person in a day. I am pretty sure that Rob Morris at ASC has done either 30 or 31 in a day. They do tremendous volume there. Chuck -
To downsize or not to downsize?
SkymonkeyONE replied to freeflygoddess's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Agreed. There are some great canopy pilots out there: Jeffro, Dusty, Fruitcake, Steffan, Craig..... It is my understanding that Fruitcake (Jason Peters) and Dusty are running a canopy course now. Drop by and see them. -
Check it!!! How bout some Jerkey?

I have jumped with pretty much every combination of zipper coming undone or blowing out and just flew the suit to a safe pull altitude. I have never chopped wings. So long as your thumb is through the loop, you ought to be able to control it. Yes, my old GTi had a zipper that constantly blew out or unzipped. Before I replaced it with a metal one, I put velcro closures on the wrists to prevent "zipper creep" and even added rings to the zipper toggles to route my velcro closures through. Never a "creeping" problem after that, but it still blew out when larger people used it, so I just replaced it with a REAL zipper. No problems whatsoever after that. Chuck

Tandem Instructor Poll: Instructor Jumpsuits
SkymonkeyONE replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
I wear my oldest Michigan comp four way suit with booties. I got over being scared of being overpowered on a skydive by a larger student on my ninth tandem ever. The six foot niine, 275 pound guy I took out of a Cessna 182. I did that juimp in my old skysurf suit because I was scared of getting taken for a ride. It ended up being completely smooth, so after that I just went back to my bootie suit. I am happiest with that because it is what I am most used to on "regular" RW dives and it's also what I do AFF in. On tandems, I steer with my feet. If someone tries to take me for a ride out the door I don't fight it, instead just letting them take me over or head-down for a few seconds until I have enough speed built up to stick out an arm and get flat to throw the drogue. The suit I normally used is nearly seven years old now, but I just keep sewing up the booties when they get worn out. If I had to trade it for anything new, it would be a comp RW suit bottom (Michigan Kinfe Edge) with a cordura ass and knees. I don't need a top in the summer, so a T-shirt is fine. Another option would be the "farmer john" overall type comp suit that Tony is now making. I saw them at WFFC and thought they were the shiznit. Peace, Chuck -
Then don't come a knocking! My Little Miss is on the road, four hours from Raeford. Life does not suck. Chuck
