  1. Really? I almost always do tandems in my RW bootie suit. Reason? LEG POWER. Super-floppy suits for tandems are gay (particularly on tall people), but you do need to make some concessions for control, especially when you are a smaller TI like me. I nail my exit, throw my drogue, then steer with my feet. As small as I am (5'7" and 160 lbs these days) and as slow as the drogue on my Racer is I can't afford to jump anything floppier for fear of totally hosing the vidiots. Bootie suits rock for tandems. Chuck
  2. Nice pics there, Theopolis! I can't believe you guys got BLACK suits though! Talk about HOT in Tejas. You must be on a diet..... By the way, how did you like the Tony suits? More to the point, how did HE fly it?
  3. Don Yarling is dead, bro. Do you mean Don Kirlin?
  4. The only person I know that is currently jumping one is Bryan Moffet in Tejas. Perhaps he will chime in with his opinions on the canopy.
  5. Nice pics! Looks like you guys had a good time.
  6. Yep, the arm wing looks very close to the Vampire, but the grippers come down vertically like on a BM wingsuit. The suit looks nice.
  7. Just off the top of my head I can think of seven very-experienced black jumpers at Raeford. Three of them are tandem instructors. Ultimately, in my opinion, people are going to get involved in activities that they get exposed to locally and those which their friends or colleagues partake in. It has positively nothing to do with race, at least around here. Chuck Edited to add quickly that my number just went up to nine, with five being tandem instructors and at least three being AFF instructors. That's just here locally.
  8. Who knows, but I will be living on the DZ in Z-hills then! Katie and I leave NC on the 25th of July!
  9. That was fucking stupid, Nathan
  10. One option is to find a US dropzone with BPA-rated AFF instructor. There are several in Florida and there is even one right here in Raeford, North Carolina (Tim Tennant). Tim got his BPA ratings when he was in the US Airforce stationed at Mildenhall England. He maintains that rating "just in case". Chuck
  11. How about just relegating yourself to cat D and E AFF jumps (no grips, or in the case of a D1 just a light gripper hold?) I too get wrist pain after a ton of AFF, but it's never on the legstrap side. My left wrist starts to really bug me when I am outside (reserve side) from an Otter or the PAC. It's the cross reach that gets to me. Hope you find a solution! Personally, I would just do like I said and stick with the higher, single-JM, no-grip-exit AFF levels. Chuck
  12. I think it's a tremendous waste of time to PRO pack anything larger than about 120 square feet. Others will argue that it's a tremendous waste of space to flat-pack anything. Whatever. When I flat pack the main is laid on it's side for maybe one minute before it's exactly the same width as the person PRO packing. I flat pack my tandem rig and every single student rig I have ever touched. Chuck
  13. I mean that they got very little in return for the effort they put out running the meet. It was a PPPB meet the last year at Quincy with Reggie running the meet and Airzone running the announcing. After that, it was always just the Airzone girls putting it on and even putting up what prize money there was (above registration fees) out of their pockets. The last one they ran that I was at (two years ago) had quite a few competitors, but I remember them saying last year that they were giving up and were looking for another individual or group to run one. I presume that's still the deal this year. It was them that maintained the pond and provided most of the airblades. The pond will certainly still be there (and full), but I have no idea who, if anyone, is going to maintain it or if anyone has ponied up to organize a meet. Chuck
  14. Exactly. I can't believe some dropzones actually charge for a packing class. In my opinion that has always been a part of primary instruction and ought to be included in the cost of the first jump course. Chuck
  15. Lot's of "no's" here, but I say "yes." I am not concerned about getting zoo'ed on exit by any of the guys that I allow to exit in this manner. On the contrary, I have even used it as a tool to get better exit shots from some video guys who simply lacked the timing to get a decent first half of the skydive. Criticize if you like, but hey, I am comfortable with it. The "in your face" exit shots you can get with it are fantastic. Chuck
  16. Someone in the other T-shirt thread said that they would never wear such a shirt because they were in bad taste; it may have been David Layne. Anyway, I just thought that I would add that the back of my dad's Skydive Opelika shirts say: "If you die we split your gear". Profound and in utter bad taste, but they are tremendously popular. My sister and brother-in-law had the first batch done up and gave them to all the skydivers in our family as Christmas presents over about a decade ago. Chuck
  17. Very unfortunate, Gary. I had fun in my six months as a local there.
  18. We buy all of the UFC fights down at my clubhouse. This one wasn't that good in my opinion. The Ortiz vs. Shamrock one was a sham! The fight was stopped very prematurely. At least last time Ortiz got to actually kick his ass. Chuck
  19. I haven't ever had that problem and I have one of the very first sets that Joe ever made. It's so inconsequential that I have actually not installed my steel rings that Joe gave me at Dublin. I can see how it might possibly happen if you didn't set them down into the riser V after yanking your shit off, but in Shimmy's terms: I have many, many jumps on my system. Over 1000 actually. The old rings have never "slid up" on my system. YMMV. Chuck
  20. If you organize one there will be. Airzone gave up trying I think.
  21. I am off until the end of September. Is that long enough to recover from the four day party my club is running this weekend?
