  3. The Golden Knights 8-way team (which also then emcompassed both four-way teams) got their first Stillettos (after trading from Sabres) with Dacron. Afther that first year, they decided they wanted Microline. It was then that they started snapping lines and having shit openings. That same year, they ordered replacement canopies with Dacron and had all their microline canopies changed to Dacron. This was back when they all packed their own mains though, and everyone that I can remember flat-packed their ST's (and all their previous mains). Anyway, Dacron is the far better choice for someone looking for a smoother opening (because of the "give" in those lines), but most teams opt for the smaller lines these days strictly for vanity. Ultimately, what's the point of using tiny lines on your main and having shit openings if you need to wear ten pounds of lead for team jumps. It's especially pointless when you don't swoop anything but the beer line. Chuck Jumping an Excallibur when you were shitting green.
  4. Like someone else here said, they are mostly based on old flat-twin BMW's. The sidecar equipped rigs you can buy DO have two wheel drive though. the Sidecar wheel is driven, at least on some models. There is an old retired guy here in Z-hills that has 92 motorcycles! Most are eastern-european and german bikes. Jawas, CZ's, BMW's, Urals, etc. He's a funny motherfucker too! A polish guy with some very, very funny jokes. Chuck

  12. I teach my students that the actions you do with your body are identical to the ones you do in a swimming pool. That applies to both front and backloops.
  13. Carving Speed for the old "Advanced" Class of PST, then the original CPC leagues were 180 foot 30 degree carves with ten foot gates. Pro Carving Speed was 220 feet with five foot gates.

  15. Visual refereces only work when you jump at the same dropzone and swoop the same area of that dropzone every time. Jump at a place with a lot of such references such as Raeford, The Ranch, or anywhere else with big trees or building and you will immediately be screwed the first time you try to judge your setup to swoop the pond at Perris. You simply must use an accurate altimeter if you wish to ever get any degree of accuracy in your landings. Yes, your eyes can tell you if you have turned too low or how your turn is progressing, but the setup is the key to a good landing and you won't ever figure your setup out without repeated jumps with a Neptune or some other accurate device. Yes, you can swoop the beer line without one, but if you want to land on a declared target or swoop through gates, you had better figure out your setup altitude.

From another duplicate thread started by a duplicate screen name of CPC inc. : Posted from CPC Newsletter: It's time again for the Canopy Piloting Circuit Championships at the Mile Hi Swoop Park in Longmont, Colorado. We have another exciting event planned this year and look forward to seeing all the top amateurs perform. This CPC newsletter is a follow up to the first and includes confirmations and clarifications... The CPC Championships will take place August 18-20, 2006. The Accuracy, Distance and Speed events will be set up and scored exactly like last year. Thursday Aug 17th Registration & official practice Friday Aug 18th Speed competition 9:00am Saturday Aug 19th Accuracy & Distance competition 9:00am Sunday Aug 20th Weather day SPEED COURSE CONFUSION! Like last year the 2006 Championships will include three rounds of Speed, Accuracy and Distance. There has been some confusion on the internet about the speed competition at this event. Many thought that the speed event would be a straight course that required competitors to drag the water. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The PST does have an event like this called "Ultimate Speed" which was just used at the last PST Air Festival in Longmont, Colorado. The CPC had announced that it was going to use a straight speed course for this year's championships but will stick to the normal carving speed course. Just to be clear, the 2006 CPC Championships will have the normal carving speed course just like last year's championships. The CPC was considering a straight course over the carving for many, many reasons. First off, the carving course presents a problem with the handicap system which was not used during last year's event. For those "Advanced" amateurs using the handicap system these competitors must swoop five foot entry gates instead of ten foot like the "rookie" amateurs. Since the five foot and ten foot gates are set up at the same time the dilemma is this: One of the many reasons that the CPC uses ten foot vertical markers is to teach canopy pilots better canopy disposition which forces them to be aware of their flight path through the course. If the pilot is low to the surface at the entry gate they must take an outside line through the course or risk catching an inside marker. Contact with one of the vertical markers at high speed during the turn may result in a penalty to the pilot's score and body (Like slinging the pilot into the ground which happened at last year's championships). For this reason pilots must carefully plan their approach and stay higher at the entry gate while staying to the outside. Advanced amateurs that must make a five foot entry gate are forced closer to the ground and must deal with ten foot markers during the turn. This was the reason the CPC was going to use a straight course....SAFETY. Straight speed courses have been used in competition for years including the IPC Canopy Piloting World Cup. The CPC realizes that most districts organizers have used only the carving speed course this year and this is what the pilots have been practicing. For this reason the CPC will use the standard carving speed course at the 2006 Championships and have the inside ten foot markers pulled down prior to any of the"advanced" competitor's competition runs. However, just like last year, competitors will be required to drag the surface of the water during the Accuracy event and the accuracy event only. THE SPEED, ACCURACY AND DISTANCE EVENT WILL BE SET UP AND SCORED EXACTLY LIKE LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT.   18. I am just going to make one more post to this thread, as it has clearly been down many different tangents. TVPB clearly has a lot of BASE and general skydiving credibility. That's awesome. My one problem with his last lengthy post was the analogy that my considerable wingsuit experience and accomplishments would lend me no benefit in the theoretical situation I proposed: me flying off a 3000 ft + terminal wall in Norway in my wingsuit skydiving rig. The purpose of my response was simply to say that I, regardless of BASE experience, don't see why it would be a problem to anyone for me to jump off that rock, fly for 1000 feet vertical, then dump at 2000agl. No, it's not BASE gear, but I can promise you that an experienced wingsuit pilot can get plenty far away from a wall in 1000 feet and that any mal experienced at that 2000 foot AGL opening altitude could be handled safely by cutting away and using the reserve. That point seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. My point was that I am POSITIVE that someone, ANYONE with wingsuit experience showing up with a skydiving rig at that location would get the same amount of grief as this clown in BASE gear at Rantoul. I did not say that I planned on doing the Norway thing; I said that BASE guys would give a guy in skydiving gear grief, regardless of how safe the jump could be made with a prudent pull altitude comensurate with the skydiving gear he was using. Some of you really do seem very sure of yourselves. I have met many, many BASE jumpers who displayed common sense and did not come across as pompous assholes. I have met just as many, barely-qualified BASE jumpers/skydivers who simply don't give a rat's ass about what anyone outside their little clique thinks. Law be damed; common sense be damned. I am positively incredulous at the degree of hero worship that some BASE jumpers have for some truly wreckless individuals. You would bitch at a guy like me for posting what I suspect would be a totally doable jump (the Norway in a skydiving rig thing), but you will positively support and cry over a RANK AMATEUR wingsuit BASE guy who zoo'ed a poised exit out of a Caravan then promply flew himself into a bridge. Give me a break. Listen, I don't care how many jumps, BASE or otherwise, a person has. It's common sense that will keep you alive. Some things just make more sense to reasonable people than to others. If you don't follow the fact that the great majority of responsible adults don't have a problem staying within the boundaries of the law, that's your problem and I can promise you that you are in the minority. Also, tough-guy posturing does not impress people like me, so please save yourself the effort if any of you feel like responding in that way. I would just delete your rant anyway. This thread was not about me. It was about a guy at a skydiving event that was attempting to make what most of us consider to be a poor decision. I am surprised that some of you thought it worth the effort to try and read too deep into the simple response I had to it.
