Skydive The Ranch(NY) or Skydive Jersey Shore(NJ)
DougH replied to Terruko's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You would get more attention as a student from the Ranch or Crosskeys. They are bigger dropzones with bigger AFF programs. Skydive JS is a nice place, showed up there to make a few fun jumps, but they focus more on tandems. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Plenty of Colombians loved Pablo Escobar. People, understandably so, tend to look past peoples failings when you are getting free stuff that improves your quality of life. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Wild spinning linetwist video!!!

He was using his whole bag of tricks. Using toggles on line twists wasn't the take away from the video. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
If Switzerland Can Crack Down on CEOs, Why Not the US?

His adult entitlement to make his own decisions ends with the DZO's entitlement to make the rules. If he doesn't like the rules he should vote with his feet, instead of trying to minimize the impact to his check book. I could be mistaken but I think he suggested upstream in the thread that he isn't going to turn it on anyway. The adult way to deal with this issue is to find a DZ that doesn't require it. This is a crazy idea, but I wonder if you could apply some sort of heater to the lens body. You need to keep the glass element above the dew point right? I don't know if there is enough conduction between the parts of the lens but I am picturing some heat tape around the body of the lens and a extra battery pack. Crazy or unworkable, probably. It was just something that popped into my head! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

RIP Jeep. You did to the Cherokee what Lucas did to Star Wars

That isn't fair or true unless it is far out of trim. I will grab the A2 350 off the rack, but it isn't my first choice. I think they are trimmed to flat. They also have a nasty habit for popping up if you make long slow carving turns on to final. They don't respond well to induced speed. Agree... the edit sucks. To much back and forth. Great the cuts match the beat, but they take away from the video! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I used to use a CC for all online purchases, but my bank informed me that anytime you tried to use your card over the limit, it was a negative mark on your credit ranking. The problem is that if someone snags your CC card number and runs a bunch of charges up on it and maxes it out over the limit, that red mark STAYS on your credit report even if you get the fraudulent charges removed. For online purchases we maintain a "safe debit card" that is completely separate from our other checking accounts. If this card gets jacked, the bank will still work to get us our funds back, but since it's not a credit card there will be no hit on the credit report. We also only keep a few hundred dollars on the card at a time, so when/if it gets jacked we only have to dispute a few hundred dollars worth of junk somebody else bought instead of several thousand. Elvisio "debit cards aren't all bad" Rodriguez Your bank has a poor understanding of the FICO scoring algorithm. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

This. If he had a "assault weapon" with an evil tactical flashlight, he may more easily identified Mrs FHM as a hot model, instead of mistaking her for a massive intruder. Assault weapons save lives. In this case I think he just blew a gasket and killed her. He should have went with "tap that", instead of double tap. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Infrastructure should have its own budget - Robert Reiche
DougH replied to DougH's topic in Speakers Corner
I heard this on NPR driving home today. I thought it was a little more interesting than our regularly scheduled beating another dead horse gun control thread. ----------------- http://www.marketplace.org/topics/economy/commentary/infrastructure-should-have-its-own-budget In his State of the Union address last night, President Obama talked about the economic importance of education and infrastructure. That's all well and good. But how do we fund these investments when discretionary spending is likely to be cut to the bone in order to reduce the budget deficit? The answer: We need to treat public investments differently from discretionary spending. No rational family would borrow to pay for a vacation but not borrow to send a kid to college. And no rational business would borrow to pay current salaries but not take out a loan to buy crucial new machinery. Yet that's, in effect, what our government does because it doesn't distinguish between current spending and public investment needed to ensure future economic growth. A rational federal budget would allow additional borrowing for public investments whenever the expected return on those investments is higher than the cost of the borrowing. And it wouldn't borrow a penny if the return on the investment is less than the borrowing costs. Granted, such public returns can be hard to measure. But well-developed tools exist for doing so. Studies show for every dollar we invest in infrastructure, for example, we can expect a return of nearly $2 in economic gains. Of course we need to make sure these investments are smart. No bridges to nowhere. Still, no one can argue that much of our infrastructure is badly outdated. Investing in early childhood education gives us an even bigger bang -- a return on investment of between 10 and 16 percent. A better-education workforce means greater productivity. Putting more money into basic R&D yields a similar big return. Capital markets are now global. Money sloshes across borders in search of the highest return anywhere. The only way to ensure private investors will continue to invest in America, and support the high living standards we want, is for Americans to be highly productive. This requires public investments. Which is why we need a public investment budget -- separate from a current spending budget -- that can't fall victim to partisan bickering and will allow us to keep borrowing when the return on public investment -- and the public good -- justifies it. How much has your 401K earned you over 30 years?
DougH replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
That is the problem. Good people lose real money when they hear this sort of nonsense and second guess the proper actions they're taking. I don't care one bit about his finances, but I'd hate to see him hurt others here. Fair enough. Then again anyone dumb enough to follow his retirement planning advice is probably going to send some gains my way... Buy high... sell low! It'd be funny if you weren't serious. I don't know why you guys continue to respond to him. I thought this was an obvious troll. Either way he already has his mind made up, I saw that from the first few replies. I almost took the bait but I decided I would rather stick my hand on the hot stove, versus trying to talk finances with him! Think I can find a good rig for $3,500?
DougH replied to SoCalFunJumper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In 2006 I scored an awesome deal on Ebay for a barely used Icon, Pilot, Smart Reserve, and Cypress II with 10 years left on the clock... for 3500. I think those deals are few and far in between now. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
