  1. This is amusing. The division between independent contractor and part of the DZ is a sliding scale that depends only on how far you are from the tax accountant / employment lawyer versus the clogged up blue shitter. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  2. I agree, but since I can think of more than one president past or present as a shit head at a time, I also think that a president who lies to the american people about reforming a large part of the countries economy is also a fuck stick! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  3. there you go again Telling a lie about a lie Keep saying it It is really telling about you Irony score 10/10 All of the above are on the record, and all were untrue. No... I think you are missing his point. He isn't saying you are lying... He is saying two sets of lies don't cancel out. Every time someone posts about their perceived lies made my the current president, the counter are lies by the Bush administration. Two wrongs don't make a right, I would rather both cut down on being filthy dirty liars. So you think these lies are OK, because Bush had his own sins? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  4. This. A partnership (business, life) is a legal construct. A marriage should not be a legal construct. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. Not not really. You got all sensational about how dangerous it was without knowing any of the facts. And then even after getting them, and admittedly having zero experience in jumping tandems you were again weighing in with you expert safety observations that your didn't think it was a good idea. The guys has 18 jumps and he appears to be fishing for someone that will tell him what a reckless bunch of yahoos the "non USPA" pirate operation is. Your not helping anyone out by fueling the thread with unfounded comments about safety. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  6. What exactly is your angle with this thread. It appears that several jumps later you still have no idea what is going on. The dropzone was nice enough to let you bring what I assume is your chest mount for your gopro, and they let you get some of your own footage. Aside from the fact that your footage sucked, there really is zero extra risk the tandem instructor placed on you. Some safety nazi is going to come on and grill me now, but I place a huge amount of concern over my students safety, and this really isn't an area of measurable extra risk. For comparison sake a tandem instructor that lets a student jump with hiking boots with lace hook is being waaaaaaaaaay more risky, than letting a tandem have a gopro on a chest mount, or somehow on their belly band or chest strap. Did you ask them about this now that you have some additional information before you decided to out them on dropzone.com for something that was nice, and not a safety risk. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  7. How do you know it wasn't safe? Do you know any specifics, like how the camera was mounted, or any other details. Any background experience jumping tandems? Any experience letting your students bring along a gopro? No? None? Oh OK, thanks for sharing. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. I respect that and appreciate that. Now change your business model to a smaller drop zone with one 182 and tell me after a season if you are flying outside video, with a dedicated ground production staff. Here is the funny thing. The students really liked their product. It was their video, they actually participated in making it. The editor hated it, but instead of the instructor choosing when to turn the camera back on for additional commentary they had that input. Of course we appreciate the difference between outside and inside video, and pictures shot with good glass and gopros. That is because many of us approach this as artists. We are much more discerning that the average customer. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  9. Ya! More like x wing fighter! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  10. We did them this way for two years before we had a change of ownership, and switched back to instructors shooting the handy-cam. I found that holding the camera seemed to relax them, but I think it distracted them from the skydive a bit. There were pro's and cons. Students could get a longer shot that I could, and usually were in frame and shot good video. But there were also students that did a shit job, and I couldn't muscle their arms into a better position even if I was the incredible hulk! Are you having them exit with their arm in this position? I would recommend an exit their arms crossed, thumb in the elbow so they aren't flailing around before you get the drogue out. With a gopro this gives a close up of their face and reaction on exit, not as great, but a good compromise between getting the shot, and making the exit cleaner. 11. LOL! You are 6'5 290! I am not surprised that you don't have trouble flaring the reserve. I am guessing you can generate quite a bit more ummph then some of us feather asses! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  12. Would be nice to see one with a box molded in to the visor. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  13. Same sizes as current Hero3? The email I got from B&H was a bit confusing in regards to size. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  14. Here is what I would be OK with. They offer a deal that is a package with video, with a lower exit altitude. (Obviously not very workable for large plane operations). If the customer doesn't upgrade back to a full paying jump tandem instructor shoots the handy-cam for free, but gets full jump fees otherwise. This assumes that the instructor doesn't have to edit. If the customer upgrades to high altitude the tandem instructor picks back up his full pay. But half price half pay, I think the DZO is being foolish, and I don't want to share in the Tom Foolery! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  15. That sounds like a bum deal to me, let the DZO shoulder the cost of his race to the bottom marketing strategy! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  16. Liens placed by FAA? I would have thought that Bill owns his plane outright, would be pretty surprised there was a note on them. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. The real shore residents of NJ, not the Benny invaders, resent those comments! The "Jersey Shore" cast is already long gone to back where ever in NY they came from, and it is now local summer. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. It took a young dumb kid with a sprained ankle the other day. Just sprained, no air cast or anything like that. I told him that I am not a doctor, I thought it was a stupid idea, and that it might hurt him while we hookup, but I didn't decline the jump because it didn't pose any apparent safety risk beyond the possibility that he could sprain it further. He did fine except for hookup in the 182... "Hey man this really hurts my ankle". No shit, you don't say! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  19. Another key lesson is that you should avoid getting a case of "gotta get home itis". It does you no good to just make it back to the drop zone if you get there by the skin of your teeth, and not enough altitude to do a proper landing pattern. Many times selecting a quality out is the better and safer choice for a long spot. It is better than: -Just making it back to land against the pattern and risk a canopy collision -Just making it back but having to pick your feet up to avoid obstacles that you are barely clearing -Just making it back but finding yourself pointed at obstacles that you have precious little altitude to spending -Crossing the runway too low -Just making back to the airport but not the field, you know someplace fun, like that parking lot, or the taxi way, or the runway Or my favorite -Just making it back... oooops, didn't get back after all, can some one get me out of this tree / sticker bush. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. I like the Muslim business owner analogy but I think I am going to spin it differently. You are choosing reception halls for your wedding, you have the Elks Club, the Muslim owned Party Hall, and a Jewish Community Center. I would be totally in support of the Muslim business owner telling you that you and you guest have to wear modest clothing if chose to have your reception there. I would also be totally in support of the Jewish Community center making you and all your guest wear head coverings. Maybe I want to have my cake and eat it too. I am very supportive of gay right. But I also think there has to be a balance. I don't think gays should be legally denied by a state from having a recognized marriage, but I think the religious institution (even though I think they are idiots) should have the right to not participate in gay weddings. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. No, whites, blacks, gays, and women should all be allowed to freely come inside and order from the business's established menu, at its established location. The white guy shouldn't go to the soul food restaurant and order some yuppie steak tartar shit. The woman shouldn't go to dive bar and ask for something frilly with an umbrella and a clean glass. The black guy shouldn't go and demand collards from the Japanese restaurant. Sorry, I am all for gay rights, it fits into my belief that you should leave other people alone. But this is not leaving others alone, this is gays targeting others for no reason other than to start shit. A Christian bakery bakes things, and they do wedding cakes for Christian weddings. I think there is a difference between having clearly defined business offerings, which doesn't include non christian wedding cakes, and a blanket discrimination based on sexual orientation. I would be equally supportive of a gay owner bakery the refuses to make cakes for christian weddings because of the general stance against gay marriage. 22. My chops have all been fun... even flying a Master 425 reserve (goddamn sky barge). Finding the shit that I chopped in our New England country side is decidedly much less fun. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
