  1. Ok, so I guess then I can concentrate on mounting it instead in a position that gets good contact between the mount and the helmet. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  2. He should get in a hanging harness, go over emergency procedures, obstacle landings, and an overview again. He shouldn't get raped for it. I would tell that other dropzone to get fawked. Just as bad as charging a student 80 bucks to learn how to spot, or 7 bucks to supervise their own student pack jobs. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  3. It would be nice to get a 727 for an event. Looks like lots of airlines are going to be upgrading due to sky high Jet-A. Maybe soon there will a bunch of them sitting around with no lessees and we can borrow one again.
  4. I don't know what the water training is all about. But the refresher training isn't a bad idea. How many jumps did he get before his lay off, were they in a short amount of time? It isn't hard to lose importants parts of knowledge, especially when you barely know it in the first place. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. Does any one have some suggestions on where to mount the ringsight bracket on an optic illusion? I never mounted a ringsight before and the directions are a little vauge: "position the bracket for best fit (as close to the edge of the helmet as possible)". The front of the helmet has a pretty healthy contour. If I mount it close to the front of the helmet on the left near my dominant eye the feet don't sit very well. I can mount it more towards the side of the helmet but I am thinking that the mount should be pointed more straight down. Any pictures or tips would be great thanks! 6. You are referring to the canopy just before the stall point. I am refering to putting the canopy in the brake configuration that nets minimum sink. If you have the uppers to work with float with them like a hot air balloon. On every modern canopy I have jumped this has been very deep into the toggle stroke. Describe it how ever you want it, the words don't matter, because you can confirm with your eyes when you hit that sweet spot. Either way this is taking away from the point, unstow your fucking brakes and check that your canopy works. Your canopy can go further a number of safer ways. 7. Oh no! I have said several of those things recently, and I don't have nearly as much time in the sport to become crotchety and cranky like you. I am going to be such an uber prick skygod when I have been around as long as you have. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. Based on the supply of pimply faced e-badasses that have been streaming over here I think I will stick to my current side. Just like e-pimps never get to pimp any hoes, e-badasses never get to kick any ass other than their little sibblings. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  9. Self lubricating plastic slider grommets maybe? Less friction = less heat = less wear? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  10. Hmmmm I just tell them to go screw with a nice PM? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  11. I would guess it is going to be somewhat stronger than a single continues line that only goes from riser to one line group. The actual number I haven't a clue, I would guess the radius and size of the link, along with the distance between the line groups would be a variable when calculating the real number. Am I wrong? Engineer is the last job title I would put on my resume. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  12. I wish I made it out to that this year, maybe next year I will plan ahead... Does the location of Skyfest support a boogie the size of the WFFC? When I picture the WFFC in my mind, from the stories I have heard, I am picture a huge huge boogie the just sprawls out for miles like a big state fair. Am I close? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  13. No way to say, especially on the internet. Too many variables. For instance: is the pilot a "dumb as rocks" toggle monkey? Or does the pilot behave in the patern, fly predictably, and has some accuracy skill? Are you looking for some sort of assurance for some doubts that you have about your new purchase? Is that the purpose of this thread? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  14. If it is the same as years gone past then I would go. I would give it at least one shot, showing up hoping it lives up to the hype. After this layoff I think the first year performance would make or break the event. If the first time back isn't totally awesome then it probably will never come back what it used to be. So I hope if it does get planned again a lot of stuff gets put into it.
  15. I am driving all thursday night to get there. Can't wait to meet some new people and check out a new DZ. I also will have my new Rebel finally mounted on my camera helmet so hopefully I can get some good shots while I am there.
  16. I think some jumpers have the belief that keeping the canopy with its brakes set is an effective way to return from a long spot. I have heard this from other experinced jumpers, and I have heard it from newbie jumpers who have obviously learned it from the former. Deep deep brakes and float it back if the uppers are strong, or get up on the top of the rears and really put them to work. Both are more effective and much safer than leaving your brakes set and trying to use rears. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. Mental note taken. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. What size is the Nova.... "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  19. The price is definetly nice on the A2's, when I was pricing them out for my club they were very competitive in price. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. Based on your previous AAD posts maybe this thread should have a more appropriate title: "I want to bash Cypres, can any one post some conjecture and third hand stories about some ones brothers uncle's sisters mother who had a cypres fire in the plane (but only because she was borrowing it because her Vigil fired in her truck)". Hmmmm that might be a little long no? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. That's very true. The list of dropzones that accept Skyride certificates is quite large - (I think it was posted on DZ.com recently?). Also, back in Summer '06 (while the Skyride shit was really hitting the fan publicly), during a road trip to various DZ 's in the Northeast, we were heading north after leaving Crosskeys and found ourselves near Skyride's Pennridge, PA DZ, so we diverted over to gawk a bit. Loads were being flown from an Otter clearly marked "Skydive DeLand". It was disheartening. Come on, does it suprise you. How often does the almighty dollar cancle out some ones "ideals". Sadly the dollar trumps all for many people, even when it is leaving a shitty taste in their mouth. You can take the words skyride out and just subsitute it for all of the other scummy things many places pull: deferred maintanence, misleading claims made to tandem students, misleading websites that aren't skyride, wringing AFF students out until the money sponge is all dried up... on and on and on; it is sad. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  22. I wouldn't know. I will get mine some time in August after my good for nothing mailman gets done leaving it in the rain, letting his dogs chew on it, and reading it on the shitter. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  23. No I am not a subscriber. I need to find the voucher I won in the Collegiates raffle two years back. Is there an online version of the article? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  24. Would you agree that you might have some bias... "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  25. It is only OK if your rigger stuffed newspaper and old socks into the pack tray to make up for the difference in volume (sic). Sounds like that difference in size would make for a very loose pack job! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
