  1. wish I could have seen those on the Square 1 site. I ended up ordering the knives and some other needs from Paragear. I'll have to peek in the Square 2 store in Eloy next week.
  2. So, does everyone get to stay home for a snow day? Can you drive in that? I dunno, I'm just a southern girl. I'm not sure how hard to laugh at that. Everything is open, schools and all. Ralffers post is nothing...we have 3' in the yard, 5" new inches in the last hour. Deep enough to dive off the deck without breaking anything, and then rolling into the hottub to make your skin hurt for a few seconds. Unless we get more than 24" in 24 hours, rarely does anything shut down. 'Course,...most everyone here has a four-wheel drive, and if you don't own a snowplow or big-ass snowblower, you know someone who does.
  3. The Samsung is a plastic housing that won't withstand the rigors of heavy skydiving. Build a good cage for it, maybe...
  4. That's exactly why I was asking. I'd contacted the manufacturer, they couldn't answer. An owner of the same suit told me the Jack the Ripper was perfect width, but was too long. Thanks for the help, off to Paragear I go.
  5. Captain Hook looks wider, but the Jack the Ripper doesn' have a listed width. Length of the Captain Hook is perfect, however.
  6. The ad was for democrat in SLC, Rocky Anderson. You can see some of the clips here FF120 is the primary clip used in her "freefalling economy" ad.
  7. Is anyone aware of a shorter Jack-the-Ripper style hook knife? I have a 20cm long one, but looking for something a little shorter, same width. Approx 15cm would fit the pocket just perfectly. Suggestions?
  8. FYI, the footage is stock footage from a company called "Artbeats," it's a ripoff of an ad that we did for a local politician last year using the exact same footage. Footage was shot by Norman Kent as part of a project he shot many years ago. You can buy that stock footage library from Artbeats for 599.00.
  9. @ 240 lbs (naked, as JC describes himself) he's a big guy. JC Colclasure
  10. Thanks, Gary. I was unaware of that. The form would need to be a downloadable, however, provided to all skydivers at large to be effective in the absence of a GM program, don't you think?
  11. Neither I, nor the person who experienced the failure had to "try hard" or any other similar stupidity. Your DZO was present as I "tried hard" to prepare my rig, but discovered that all was not right with it, so I "tried hard" to figure out the problem. If I hadn't had a second rig (and actually a third, as I'd just purchased a used rig that morning) I'd just as easily have jumped the rig that I'd taken to the riggers shack at the beginning of the day. There are several potential factors as to why more than one rig failed on the same day, but "Tried hard to make it fail" isn't one of them.
  12. You're right and you're not so right, IMO. Canada owes the $$ to the tribes due to treaty agreements in the past. The tribal government is the one that has failed. The tribes in the US that offer entitlements are in much the same state as the aboriginals in Canada; booze, drugs, parties, and lack of self-sustaining and responsible social structure are killing the culture in some areas. Other areas where good tribal government manages the $$ and distributions, this isn't nearly the same, and many children go on to be educated and lead very respectable, contributing lives. Aboriginal or not, this story is a tragedy and travesty. FAS is far worse in Canada than it is here in the US, and it's a crime that the tribal governments aren't doing more about it. I'm previewing a film at the Edmonton Dreamspeakers Film Festival on this very subject. I can't imagine any parent being this irresponsible, but the occurences are somewhat overwhelming, particularly in the northern parts of the US and Canada.
  13. It would appear that a mandated inspection program runs a risk of failing as badly as it already is. What about a USPA-issued checklist of inspectable parameters that a jumper might undertake to determine if he/she feels OK about using to determine their own relationship with the DZ? It's not any different in function than what is offered here on DZ.com, but if there is a document that provides specifics that a DZ should be able to pass, that individuals might use... Merely riffing here, but seems to me that one or two 'personal' inspections could make a serious bump in a DZ's reputation in either direction.

I guess there have been a bunch of orders or some other holdup. After all these posts about 4 weeks/one month...mine is 8 weeks. Ordered Jan 8, won't have til March 5, so almost 8 weeks to the day. I like that Birdman's website will allow you to track the progress of your WS tho.
  15. Intermediate is fastest. I honestly don't have any clue when (or if) Apple will natively support AVCHD. They will have to natively support AVCIntra, I would think.
  16. I truly, deeply hope you're correct, but I don't think so. Watching the debate last night at the Reagan Library, McCain and Romney going at it like pitbulls over the "timetable/who said-meant what" issue was ridiculous, and McCain was the one driving it. His points were right on, but the presentation and broken record approach turned me off, as I'm sure it did many viewers.
  17. Does anyone really think that McCain will beat Romney?
  18. Nope. I'd not worry about the card slot wearing out, the card might...but not the slot.
  19. The reason the cheaper/smaller ones are often less wide (what you're calling cropped, i think) than some of the higher end, is they're a shorter focal length and/or don't have as much lens travel, as some of the older models rely on digital zoom vs optical. Once Sony and other settled in on around 10x as an optical..it settled out a bit. If the focal length is *too* wide, you'll get vignetting on some lenses, because the end of the camera lens can see the sides of the wide angle adaptor. Personally, I absolutely hate that look. Tape motor hum will vary from unit to unit, dependent on how the ribbon cable is made. The cheap ones have no shielding. Hiss is usually due to autolevels being improperly controlled. I'm not a TI so can't comment on what is too wide or not, but have loaned my Royal many times to various TI's for handcam use, and they're very pleased/I'm pleased (I edit their stuff) with the width.
  20. I wrote to L&B a month or so ago, asking if they'd make the algorithms for the Altitrack available to Paralog, because I'd like to use Paralog for wingsuiting with my GPS. Unfortunately L&B doesn't want to share that information. I personally prefer the Jumptrack interface, but it doesn't run on a Mac. Paralog has more options. I'm not interested in jumping with anything but my Altitrack, until my WS times significantly improve. So...I'm stuck too. On the other side, I prefer many of my Windows apps to the Mac versions. Photoshop is much better on a PC than Apple currently. So, another great reason for Bootcamp.
  21. Oh shit...I shoulda qualified who I like to be teased by, huh? Monkeyboy, you scare me. Seriously now...what would YOU like a LANC control to do for you besides start/stop/indicate?
  22. I don't enjoy teasing as much as I enjoy being teased, tho. So...since the AV/D link connection can do so much...what about audio input? Is it useful/necessary/stupid? What about being able to snap stills with some cameras that allow for this? Is it useful/unnecessary/stupid? If you could design the DREAM control that doesn't have a pile of spaghetti coming out of it, what would you like it to do besides start/stop/indicate camera status?
