  1. A- you may not have read what I've had to say on this subject; monitor sizes and critical distance don't come into play until we're talking about monitors larger than 23" and/or we're dealing with specific bandwidths. Maybe spend a little time reading Poynton if you want to play with the math in "real world." He's forgotten more about the subject than I'll likely ever know. B-Given that I work with HD and SD, calibration, and matching displays, and am a trained DIT, I know what I need to know to do my job both for our in-house work and our clients on-set and studio work. Part of what I know, is that as a professional who has to own his work and words, it's generally a bad idea to make recommendations that lie outside of the industry spec, whether it's wingloading or luma levels. Eyestrain is a very real issue, and just because Best Buy and Circuit City do something doesn't make it the right thing. Whatever works for you is great. It may not work for someone else. I'm not the expert you are, so I'll leave it to what I've been taught and my own experiences resolution tests. Which well could be flawed.
  2. I'm embarrassed. the home page changed today, and the article isn't there anymore. I've searched for it too. Still searching
  3. visit the homepage of Dropzone.com
  4. don't you already have most of that? At this point, I'd rather have a couple million gallons of fuel for the King instead of the money. Domin is a terrific wingsuiter, she was fun to watch as she flitted from place to place. I'm sure Juan got some great photos.
  5. walking into the danger zone during the javelin throw isn't terribly bright. Funny thing is, the injured photographer took that picture himself. He got lucky, no bone was hit. IMO, most of us go 'plenty far' when it comes to getting the shot.
  6. That's another potential benefit of the crappy little plastic offset ring...it might help save the camera vs stripping/ripping/bending the threads.
  7. Searched for a post of who is going...who all will be there? Flights are available into Ontario right now... it's tempting.
  8. Jennifer Batten Janet Jackson Joan Jett (wierd, they all start with J's) Whitney Houston Patti Smyth Lita Ford would have to make the cutt too.
  9. If the threads were intact, I'm a little stunned it was ripped off. Are you *sure* it was tjhreaded in all the way? for giggles, I just took a Raynox 5050 and screwed it into an old broken HC using a thread adapter. Swung it/flung it, thinking the camera would rip off given the force. It's no where near what a riser might do, but no matter how hard I threw/pushed it, I couldn't get the threads to release. But.... I unscrewed the lens so it only had one twist in it. With a hard flick of the wrist, I was able to tear the cam from the lens. It broke off the last 'lip' of the thread as well (on the camera). I rescrewed it using the plastic adapter ring, thinking it would be very easy to rip off. Threaded in all the way, it wasn't. I ultimately ended up pushing it to the point that the adapter broke over my knee. It's a concern, because I jump a box on my camera sometimes, but nothing in front of nor supporting the lens on a topmount.
  10. And so that makes him like almost every human being I've ever met? Most people take opportunities as they come and turn them into personal benefit. They're all opportunists. Hillary says something stupid, Obama and McCain sieze on it. Romney did something stupid, the opposition siezed on it. That's politics. the funny thing is, I'm not an Obama supporter (yet). Still trying to make a decision between McCain and Obama, and fortunately, I've got a few months in which to do it. But...if Obama scares the elite racists found in this thread...he's probably my kind of guy. McCain has me worried with his somewhat obvious choice of running mate too. If that occurs, it won't be racist, it'll be bigotry.
  11. nuh-uh! It wasn't the ponytail, it was because I pulled lower than anyone else! I was gonna give Jeb Corliss a run for his money when I realized I'd flown from the sperm to the irrigation ditches. I'da' pulled lower, but Randy's canopy was in my way and I lost concentration when I saw him, but my original intent when you saw me double back was to fly over the exhaust of the tunnel to gain even greater lift. THAT'S how you turn in a 3 minute flight. BTW, beard=drag. Ponytail=streamlined
  12. That was Big Nick's all-Parapack camo suit. We couldn't see him in the air, but then again, he coudln't see us, either.
  13. I don't consider "any discussion about Obama as being anti-Obama" but you did declare him to be " the most racist canidate to run for office since Strom Thurman." Then there are the false quotes that are referred to frequently. Perhaps that's not considered "anti-Obama" in some circles?
  14. You were taught that un-set brakes would result in the canopy not coming out of the bag correctly, and/or would be a high speed mal?
  15. "I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race."-Fiction! This quote does not exist in either of Obama's books. One thing valuable in all these anti-Obama posts; it sure makes it a lot easier to decide my vote. If people hate Obama this much, they have something to fear. If people like Rush are afraid of Obama, Obama must be substantive and a valid opportunity to change status quo.
  16. newest version of iMovie, newest release of FCE. Final Cut Pro won't read them FCE and iMovie convert the mts and m2ts streams as well, but it's a background conversion.
  17. Incredible day, starting with a very early morning high-speed pass out of the Skyvan. Scott worked everyone pretty hard. It was hot (105) but we stayed in the air, forgoing video debriefs in favor of getting on more loads and verbal debriefs. Personally, I came away from the camp with several new techniques and tools for flying better. It was fun meeting several new friends, and seeing a couple not-so-new friends. The last jump of the day was super sweet, being a fun flock, photo op for everyone, and a beautiful flight. Thanks to Scott Campos and Skydive Arizona for hosting an educational and memorable event!
  18. Terrific shot! Unique pose, sweet angle.
  19. You're OK with jumping the box set up this way?
  20. I know what you mean (or think I do) Saskia, but there are many "regular Mini-DV" camcorders that are 3 chip, some CCD and some CMOS. to imply that 3CCDs are better than a single CMOS in today's technology is very flawed. 3-5 years ago, a 3 chip camera was better. Today, there are at least a dozen reasons that manufacturers are moving away from multi-chip systems, and cost is way, way down the list of reasons. Additionally, CCD is all but dead. Get familiar with CMOS.
  21. MAtt is correct, that's what the extension ring is for. It's not needed on most lenses.
  22. Day one of real stuff. Wow...hard to pick out who would take home the "most improved of the day" award, cuz there were a lot of them. Two groups, varying skill levels, and between Juan Mayer and Scott, there is some very good video that was shown in the debriefs. Mark has some comeuppance for biting the tail wings and shoes of other wingsuiters.
  23. Support that statement with evidence directly related to writings or audio/video recorded statements from Obama himself. I'm not in one camp or the other yet, but that is an incredibly inflammatory claim.
  24. Even tho the event has not yet begun, people are trickling in. We got some fun jumps in today, Ed flew a pretty good base until he started oogling clouds to the west. Mark, Nick, and myself hung in there even though we were winging around like a drunken snake. See y'all tomorrow.
  25. If you heard his speech in Missouri from the other day, your opinion might change. People like to make fun of President Bush on his communication skills. When Sen. Obama does not have a teleprompter, he's like a fish out of water. Had you heard his speech in Park City, Utah, you'd be impressed with his ability to speak off the cuff. Same with McCain, he too, was impressive in person. Obama had no teleprompter when I saw him, and I was impressed with his ability to answer questions from a very broad, extremely conservative audience. Everyone misspeaks from time to time.
