  1. you guys have the flight times I'd like to achieve one day... Maybe after I get my Super-Duper Mach 2.4b
  2. Egg crate foam is a federal issue, the eggcrates themselves (formed paper) are in most states, illegal also for fire. In a bedroom, that's one thing (I used to do the same). But in an apartment, and particularly in any commercial building, it's a fast way to be in serious trouble these days. The incident in Rhode Island brought about a new level of policing.
  3. Premiere doesn't support AVCHD. I recommend you try either the MainConcept converter (about 400.00) or the VASST AVCHD UpShift (50.00) to make files compatible with Premiere.
  4. This is a myth. Eggcrate only deflects, but does not absorb sound. Isolating noise/sound sources is the only way to effectively stop sound from traveling from one room to another. STC of sheetrock is very high...at all but the highest frequencies. Pipe/drape is cheap, but silly-looking. http://www.studiodaily.com/main/training/5155.html http://www.vasst.com/article.aspx?id=89f15af5-8004-44fd-97a3-71f2c8418a6c&type=1 Whatever you do, DON'T put foam eggcrate on the wall. It's dangerous, and illegal in all 50 states.
  5. Well....the way I figure it, the gold-plated power cables, gold 1394 cables, the gold RGB cables, and finally, the gold remote control combined, will make your video as good as you could possibly imagine in your wildest dreams. For a price of around 10K in cables, you could own the very best of the best cables money can buy and marketing can dream up.

    Sebastian area?

I'm going to be in Sebastian on Sat, May 31. In need of a rig in the 150-190 range. Anyone got something in-date? I didn't know I'd have this time available, it was a last minute thing...so don't have a rig w/me.
  7. Plug your camera in using one of these. Honest. Hell, order TWO, and you can have better SOUNDING video too. Had to share this one.
  8. It's about Her Hotness, how she became a driven person with goals, dreams, and kids... Great article, Andrea. Nice pix, too! But I really wish they'd published the "before" picture. Maybe I should hold it up for public auction.
  9. QuoteI think that unless you are wanting to have extremely high any quality video footage, then the bullet cam with mini DV camcorder along with a LANC controller works quite well. If you are sharing on youtube, then this will definately work since it gets compressed down (320x240) to 1/4 the res of the DV once you upload it, anyway. (sometimes, the video can get really crappy, depending on color/contrast,etc of your videos) Very familiar with Chase cam, very familiar with MP4 (FWIW, there is no MP4 editor that isn't DV compliant). Doesn't matter what the end result is, most skydivers are at least looking for a reasonable image, and resolution is only 1/3 the game. Heavily compressed sources that only carry half the framerate don't make even good YouTube video, but "good" is very subjective. There are a few that are even happy with very low quality 12fps, 640 x 480 MP4 files as source files. Then there is the majority of everyone else looking for at the least, a DV quality image. If it's ever going on a DVD, which is what I'd assume most folks here are looking to do, then anything less than a 5:1 compression @30fps, 720 x 480 will not suffice. For tandems and four way in particular, nothing less than the former is acceptable. Motorcycles, mountain bikers, etc are often using the Elmo cam, and then there are those that are shooting for broadcast hopes, and they're using at the least, some sort of HD flavor. Working the video and the GPS is admirable, but the quality I've seen from this system thus far, is less than would ever be acceptable for any but the lowest form of consumer web-stream use. FWIW, 320 x 240 is only half-DV rez, not one-quarter. DV (NTSC) is 720 x 480 at a PAR of .909
  10. I'd potentially agree, except that there are obvious differences in diffraction, MTF, and minor resolution differences that are silly to debate more than who is the best looking housing. I'd accept that Cookie and WayCool come from the same optical house. They're just too damn close to find any difference, IMO.
  11. For instance in my Talon the manufacturer will only allow the cypress or the Argus this is why I currently own a Cypres, RI hasn't certified the Vigil yet, but when they do, my next unit will likely be a Vigil. I have a used Cypres that doesn't have much life left.
  12. I just got off the phone with Skyrider, confirming my reservation for these days, and there *are* Wingsuit rooms available as of this moment. Scott took a block of rooms.
  13. ' Great post, all the right considerations. One thing to bear in mind...you can shoot HD with the CX (or any of the HD cams) and using the composite out, still edit linearally like you may be used to doing with DV, into a mixer/editing board.
  14. you can always have a camera shop glue the lens down.
  15. Glenn, aren't you flying a Ghost right now? Or do you have a Tony Suit? Based on what I've seen at Zhills, Lodi, Perris, Eloy, and Elsinore...sure seems like Tonysuits are gaining a lot of the US market. Don't know what it's like elsewhere. I do know that PhoenixFly has been great with service too, at least based on my one suit, limited experience.
  16. the royal was good it didnt let in alot of light so its kind of dark but the hc40 sucks for that anyway Can you explain this better? The lens has little to do with exposure in this particular application. The three lenses you ask about, for SD use, are all about equal. Royal is ever so slightly higher in resolution, it could be the glass is better timed, could be a few factors. But the diff between all of them is negligible, IMO. Have tested all three of them in one width or another. would have liked to have tested all of them as equal lenses, but don't own the Cookie, had to borrow one, and only have one Waycool (.3) to work with.
  17. I've seen em' side mounted for free-flying, top mounted for wingsuits, side mounted for wingsuits, and top-mounted for tandems. Bomb420 has done some freeflying with his, and I think Sara has used the CX for some test jumps with Arsenal. Dunno how those came out, but if you look at the Hypoxic ads, that's the camera she's wearing.
  18. I don't think it is being used that much in skydiving. Most people are not jumping HD cameras yet and those that are jumping HD cameras most are probably using the HC5 like myself. Based on a lot of travel to various DZ's, I'd strongly dispute that opinion. It's used by a LOT of people in skydiving whether they're shooting HD or SD with it. Off hand, i can think of a couple dozen guys, and that's without putting too much into it. Tonfly, Cookie, Bonehead wouldn't all be making boxes if it wasn't popular...
  19. Write all you want...but since the cams for the next two years are already spec'd and tooled or near tooled...it won't make any difference. If you could assure Sony (Or Panasonic, or Canon, or JVC) that they could expect 50K units in sales, and back that up with a trust fund in the event that sales didn't meet the proposed mark, then they'd more than likely build the camera you want. EIS isn't wanted by consumers for the most part, it softens the image too much. OIS is cheaper anyway, as there are no royalties to pay to a third party. Additionally, the OIS system is part of all the current lens systems. Memory cards are easy-that's the future of all cams. Form factor? Consumers don't like the PC-style, as demonstrated in sales. Conversely, the palm style such as the HC3/5/7/9 have sold very, very well. They sold out of their allotments faster than expected, which is why we saw models turn so quickly. Same has happened with the CX7. it sold it's allotment faster than marketing expected. New products to be announced soon, but don't expect much different.
  20. Nope. LANC is a tape-based protocol, and you're wanting some sort of Flash recording technology. Why 3 CCD? Vertical form factor...yes. 3 CCD, no. CCD is _just_ about dead.
  21. I often don't use a wide. McGowan and Norman Kent often don't use a wide. It's all about where you want to fly. For exits/in the door, you'll almost always want a wide. Outside of that, it's not at all necessary. Sony does have HDMI out, and *includes* an RGB component cable, as well as a composite cable. So does the Panasonic. Helo, somewhat stunned you liked the Xacti tho. I have one, don't have an SD9 but did test w/it. Since you've got footage from all three, would you mind posting some short streaming examples at reasonable bitrates for comparison? Maybe there is a problem with my Xacti. For light weight, it's a good choice, but IMO, for picture quality, it's missing a lot.
  22. Ahhh....Scotty...thanks for 'holding my hand,' especially as you taught me that very cool 180 flyover/flyby. That has to be one of the sweetest techniques I've seen (which is why it's in the video three times Was one of the most fun weekends ever, in spite of the terrible weather. Several new friends, a few old ones. Happy birthday to Purple Mike, too.
  23. 520 lines of resolution doesn't translate to much...when the codec is garbage. DV does "ok" with these cams, although they're unmatched. 520 lines is a marketing concept made up of measuring the lines between RGB, not each color offering 520 lines. It's a good way of making things sound bigger than they are. Might say that a Sony HC offers 3240 lines of 60i, or 1620 lines of 30p...there are lots of ways to measure this. unless you're talking about Iconix or other higher end bullet/lipstick, it's generally not worth it for anything beyond fun jumps and debrief, great for YouTube and little else.
  24. Sorry guys, dunno why/how that happened...but it's public now.
