  1. Yeah, *that's*'s my excuse. I'm not in the dive pool. How's it going over there? Weather here in Central Florida sux, nothing getting up anywhere. Sunday supposed to be better but I gotta go home.
  2. Be sure you're still using latest version of iMovie. Don't use the cam in AUTO, but rather DV downconvert or HDV only. Use the Easy templates. Connect camera and turn on before launching iMovie. You may need to/want to reinstall iMovie.
  3. http://www.vasst.com/?V=royalty_free.htm Quite a few links...I'm affiliated with one of them. It's also posted in the Sticky at the top of this page.

    Music?

I concur. Bear in mind that I live at a King DZ where I'm always last out, and by far....last to land, and never in the pattern with anyone. Boils down to my original post. Some situations don't warrant the risk, just as some individuals don't warrant the risk. I waited til around 900 jumps to start wearing them with any regularity, and again, I only wear them on wingsuit jumps.

    Music?

And it's my decision to not jump with you if you do. With all the canopy collisions these days, I'd not want to be in the same sky as someone with an extra (useless) distraction. And therein lies the point of disagreement. You feel it's a distraction; I feel it's an enhancement. Dozens if not at least a hundred studies have shown that concentration, dexterity, awareness, and comprehension can rise when music is part of the activity, depending on several factors. For me, having an earbud in one ear playing a specific genre of music isn't a distraction in the least. Quite the opposite, actually. To the contrary, static/mononoise (wind) has been proven to be a significant distraction. I don't feel it's something a newbie should be doing. You're obviously welcome to choose to not jump with me, yet I'd invite you to prove me wrong vs an unintelligent gut reaction and a blanket statement. The citations and supporting data are voluminous. Remember "Iron Eagles?" Music is the soundtrack of my life, and I chose music that enhances those scenes that come with piloting a wingsuit and responsibily use the equipment with which I experience that soundtrack. Music?

I jump with my Nano on every wingsuit skydive. Almost always have. I listen with both earbuds on climb to altitude, and remove an earbud for the jump so that I can hear my Optima clearly. Volume is low, earphones are sealed, so I don't hear the wind in the ear that has an earbud. Can't imagine wearing them on anything but a wingsuit jump due to short time and louder wind. IMO, it's a decision that anyone with more than 500 jumps should be allowed to make without people giving them grief. Fewer than 500....I don't think it's a good idea. FWIW, with the volume set low, I can hear (and have had conversations with) other people under canopy. For some of us, music accompanies virtually everything we do......
  8. I use all 8 GB, and XP sees all 8GB. Not sure why you're only seeing 4?? Is it breaking it into 4GB partitions/folders? It should be.
  9. I use a tongue switch. I find myself moving my jaw more than I want to when using a bite switch. Lotsa guys do better with bite than tongue. Never tried a blow switch, but have several friends that like them
  10. please use the search function.
  11. if they ever wanna work for a network or production partner, they'd sure as hell better. In this particular case, it's a work for hire. In other words, if Scotty shows the footage (assuming I'm right in what I'd heard) then he would expose himself to significant damages, as he does not own the footage, and by showing it, he'd be devaluing it.
  12. I have heard rumors that there is a copyright issue which prevents the double flyby from being publically shown outside of the television show.
  13. Does this TM wear different color clothing so that the camera might be having issues with contrast? BTW, the 15mm canon isn't fisheye on an XTi. On a 5D, yes, but not an APSc camera.
  14. It's very unfortunate that Apple has elected to not support AVCHD at much of any level, even though iMovie and FCE do enjoy limited support. It's gonna bite em' in the ass if they don't get with the program. As of now, only Apple and Avid don't offer AVCHD support. Premiere will shortly release with impressive AVCHD support. Apple users will simply have to deal with a significantly slower workflow regarding AVCHD. Expect this to change, but not at any near point in time. AVCHD is the new DV. Haven't freeflown the CX12 as of yet. For tandems and wingsuiting, it's fine.
  15. I also use TAS, SLO mode, and when it works, it's great. One in 10 dives, it'll read a dive to the formation and braking as a deployment. I've gotten several "deployments" at 8-10K on my Altitrack. If you have JumpTrack, it's very easy to correct the data.
  16. We're pretty glad to have you, Stewie. Wish I'd had the opp to make a jump instead of just a couple loads with you.
  17. That'll work too. Harder to catalog, but not tremendously so. IMO, these days you can't beat linear, even if you're tape-based.
  18. It's not always "money." Our DZ is adjacent to (actually in the middle of) the RNAV system for the internaional airport, and we're just inside the 25 mile radius. No matter what, we cannot cross 18kMSL without clearance, which is not given. Our DZ is at 4200MSL. Additionally, some aircraft don't perform well beyond certain altitudes. Ask the pilots of the Skyvan at Lost Prairie for another example.

    Norman Kent

That's probably why Norman likes to be "Norman" vs "Norm. He is sweet. You should have seen him at the National Association of Broadcasters convention. He spoke in front of a few thousand people, and had to stop showing his video, because during the presentation, he commented "No one is listening to me, you're just watching the pictures." Later, someone commented that Norman's pictures say more than his mouth ever could. Les Stroud (Survivorman) was speechless. When he saw Norman's flag footage at sunset...he teared up big-time. And Les isn't even American. If you ever get the chance to get some coaching from Norman, Nicole, or Ramsey (tunnel), take the opp.
  20. Maybe, maybe not. If the toggle has a keeper above and below (mine do) then it requires a lift up/pull down. Mine are about the same distance apart as you can see in this shot, and they're secure. Mark, wanna comment? Mark *is* well known for not keeping his ice tucked, so you might be right.
  21. Nice catch, Lori. I still stow mine "like a student" with rubber bands attached to the slinks simply because the excess can come out of the keepers on deployment. I don't stow my slider behind my head, and don't worry about needing to pull it over the rubber bands. Others occasionally give me sh** for it, but they've never, ever, released my excess on deployment.
  22. Ed Dickenson showed me this maneuver last year in the tunnel, and damned if it doesn't work really, really well. Just watch out for the wall behind you.
  23. I've been on the giving and receiving end of a premature...no fun on either side. Looks like you did great. My opinion is that not all prematures are going to hang for a second like this one did; they'll easily be faster (and perhaps slower). I wanted to be out of the way of the one experience I had. the p/c whacked my foot as I turned away from the one I was over. However, I wish I'd had presence of mind to continue to stay focused on the preemie. BTW, my preemie was on the outside of the aircraft setting up for a horny gorilla. I ended up unconscious for a bit after smacking the side of the aircraft. It was my 37th jump, rented student gear. The DZ has a policy of no student gear being used on outside exits or freeflying. thnx for sharing this vid, Mark!
  24. You might do so based on your *current* knowledge. Head over to the photo forum, you'll find people there as adamant about NOT using a Skyhook or RSL as you'll find here demanding jumpers use one. Once a Skyhook breaks a camera flyer's neck, we'll hear a different song. The bottom line is, due diligence and some time will help you understand what you really do want, need, and should have on your back. The Skyhook is the newest aid in a long list of improvements found in this sport, IMO, but it surely isn't the be-all/end-all that some have suggested. RSL's of any kind are great life-savers, and absent any information proving otherwise, I'd suggest that on the whole, having an RSL of any sort is better than nothing. Except for me. I'll choose "nothing."

    iPhone Apps

I'm not sure what would be the benefit of this unless you're a bill collector. It's about having fun. Never wanted to call a friend and sound like the hot chick he met at the bar? If you're gonna carry an iPhone (some of us call em' iCock's) then you might as well have a ball with it. Otherwise, it's just a phone. It's every bit as much fun as any game, and about as productive.
