  1. Nope, no feathers ruffled...just another person who has given me a chuckle at the ignorance of 'puters. Look at my original post. I asked some questions, most of which have been repeated by others. I believe that post to be a helpful post, whereas 'buy a Mac" and "If you wanna produce, buy a Mac" aren't. My primary personal computer is a MacBook Pro running Bootcamp with Vista. We own roughly 100 PC's, most of which are Vista Ultimate. We own approximately 50 Apple computers, all of which are Tiger or newer. In other words, I use both daily. And I don't have a head-in-the-sand opinion like most Apple users. They're tools. Apple forces you to do it THEIR WAY and no other way. PC offers options. Hardly a geek....More of a worker bee. And when a platform makes me convert audio or video to suit their particular workflow, "being cool" and wearing the Apple hat sorta goes out the window when entire days are spent conforming to Apple ProRez and not being compatible with most other systems. As far as the OP....until he answers some questions, no one can help him any further. Incidentally, Apple has very similar external USB drive issues, and they don't like 1394 raids either (even though Apple owns many patents on 1394 technology. they're just tools. Nothing more. It's ignorant to say that either one allows you to be more creative or smarter. One may get you more chicks....(or boyz, if you're in the right neck of the woods).
  2. yeah...right. Care to compare produced content? How many of each have you recently owned?
  3. Be sure you're logged in as an admin. The 64 bit OS should still see the drive if you are. You might have dismounted without removing drive? Clear boot cache may/should clear that problem. Have you created any user accounts? FWIW, I ranted, raved, and swore blue streaks over Vista Ultimate for about a month. Now that I know how it works, I rarely boot my Mac OS on the MacBook pro. I really have come to like it quite a bit. 64 bit Vegas and Adobe apps really rock. Some hardware issues for audio tools and peripherals, but outside of those...it screams.
  4. I respectfully disagree. I'm a land owner of some of the so-called wild horse land. And live near the largest free-roaming wild horse herd in the USA on the Skull Valley, Cedar Mountain and Onaqui ranges. Drought and human interference has weakened the herd, as has predator deprivation hunting (think Sarah Palin and shooting wolves from airplanes). We need more coyotes and wolves... I've purchased a couple of wild mustangs from the BLM auctions, they're decent, but not good horses and are prone to a lot of disease and expensive vet bills. Anyone who asks me, I tell em that if they want a pet horse, a mustang isn't for them. Mustangs are more a way of life (think "living in a trailer on the DZ vs skydving for fun). Either taxpayers fund them being kept in the border areas (as relates to around here) by paying for hay and seeding of grama or western wheatgrass (killed off by long drought), herding them with helicopters to more friendly range, penning/corraling/auctioning them, or putting them down. Which do you think is most amenable to Joe Taxpayer? Someone "adopts" a mustang for around 150.00, but that horse has cost Joe Taxpayer twice that in 3 years of "free-range." Most of the land on which wild horses roam is not fit for range cattle, which are currently only profitable at around 1.5 head unit per acre. Cattle won't eat cheatgrass, which is what most horse land is covered in. It takes a LOT more land than that to feed a beef cow, and three times more to feed a beef cow and calf. In other words, 3 acres might support a horse, but it takes nearly 20 to support a cow/calf unit. There is zero crop value and next to zero dirt/land value to the property you suggest the government is leasing out. No one wants it, least of all Joe Taxpayer. For giggles, just dug up a recent BLM newsletter that says they have a "budget to maintain not more than 375 head." This is 50 head more than it was 8 years ago. The herd is now estimated at more than 700. Utah alone has more than 3000 free-range horses. No one knows how many, but a good portion of the herd is feral, not wild. There are a lot of ranches in this area, and losing a horse isn't at all uncommon. In todays economy and horses sold for glue not being worth more than 100.00, it's generally easier and cheaper to drive an hour out of most any central city and let a horse go. Current horse disposal cost in Utah is 250.00 plus a 90.00 euthanization fee. I imagine it's about the same nationwide. No land on the border of Nevada/Utah is much different nor being leased any different today than it was 100 years ago, and in some cases, lands that were tied up in school trusts on the Nevada side have been turned back to the Fed, who promptly tore down fences due to the liability of horses, cattle, ATVs getting caught in them! Let Ms. Pickens pay for em. As long as it's not me...
  5. That photo was chosen a while back to illustrate the point, and while I could type a lengthy response, see Squeak's comment above, apply it to whatever you think I might type, and you'll probably be very close. T3uller isn't the first to think it's only burble related.

All in good humor, my friend. Look up "sarcasm" or "cynicism" or misanthrope. The way I figure it, God created the rest of the world, and then she made texas to store all the extra nuts and loose screws.
  7. re-read the thread. It wasn't a three-way, making it even more of a potential situation than anyone actually thought. He knows he screwed up, he's taken responsibility for it here. He's welcome on my load any time. In fact, he'll be jumping with us in Sebastian next week. I3uller, the "kill zone" or "no-fly zone" is a cone that extends both above and below a skydiver or formation.

I appreciate you assisting in the making of my point.
  9. Stop the video at 2:49 and see how close he is open to the other person (black canopy) he lost awareness of on that 3 way....... I noticed it immediately. He and I have exchanged several PM's on the subject. I believe he's learned a lot from this discussion, he shows a great attitude both here and in PM's. Everybody screws up...and they can grow from it. Question is whether they will learn, and whether they'll be given a second chance. Me? I'm all for trusting that people can grow and helping them do so rather than trying to stand in the way of achieving their goals.
  10. on the 500 GB's we have, they cook/overheat and have to be shut down. We've also had problems with corrupt files. FWIW, we reformat them from the default FAT32 crap to NTFS the second they come out of the box. I'm a big proponent of the commercial grade MyBooks and the commercial SeaGate externals.
  11. If this is so, may I recommend that you capture the exit from inside the plane? Given you're with them throughout the first few seconds of their jump as they attempt to dock suggests you're filming their two way, and then you fly towards where we last see them, suggesting you're chasing. Sorry if I got that wrong. Would you agree that the idea of having three low-time jumpers in the air all going different, indeterminate directions creates a bit of chaos?
  12. -learn that a camera can serve as a distraction to you and everyone else. Notice in this video that in the first video, the vidiot seems to be intent on shooting what "looks good" as opposed to paying attention to where he's jumping, facing, or tracking. Notice that his body (not his head) swivels a lot through the skydive, and it doesn't appear he's looking for who is where, but rather "what can I shoot?" the 180 on opening doesn't help a lot... -Notice in the video that the vidiot is *never* in the right place with the 2-way. First they're above and forward, then they are WAY below and forward, and he tracks in their direction even though he's way above them. This is a recipe for disaster, and he could easily either fall through a deploying canopy, or deploy and they fall through his. If you exit with a group, STAY with the group. Avoid the "kill zone" at all times. -learn to jump with others as a group before attempting to film them. The closer you are to others reduces the damage in case of an "oops" moment, as a general rule. Smashing into someone from 3' away isn't as painful as smashing into someone from a 20' distance. Stay WITH the group. -I'll stick my neck out further and suggest that the two in the two way were newbs too, and two newbs and a newb with a camera is also not a good idea. -Notice he pulls below another jumper that opens in a direction towards him? They're facing each other from the moment he's fully open. Collision risk. -Notice that he doesn't track off, but rather tracks towards where the 2 way is? It's assumed we lose them in the frame due to the extra wide lens and distance from them, but we'd hope he had them in sight the entire time. -in the landing, the vidiot never once looks for traffic. Ever. That alone is scary. he's also facing the ground the entire time. It's possible that the camera is pointing down a bit, but it's low enough to catch his shoes in the frame on landing, which suggests that he's looking pretty well straight down. Scary enough, but coupled with a lack of awareness of traffic.... Everyone has to start somewhere...and although the rules say "200 jumps" it's more about (IMO) prepping, being able to fly relative, and knowing how to manage yourself in the air with others. In this skydive, that clearly isn't the case. Maybe the OP was just having a bad day.... In any event, if I had to pick just one thing that really concerns me the most (out of the many eye-grabbers), I'd say it was that the cameraflyer flew in the kill zone for a lot of that jump, and when not in it, flew towards it from above. If you haven't zoomed past a deploying canopy in freefall yet...it's not a good thing. to the OP...get with Tony Hathaway or Scotty Burns on your DZ. Both are outstanding camera flyers that I know will take the time to work with you. Tony has an EXCELLENT camera course he teaches, so does Norman Kent. Take it, these guys are worth every $$ every minute, IMO.
  13. I understand that. Flipping the image in post still doesn't make an upside down camera right side up. Maybe the OP meant that it was reversed in post, because the image isn't upside down at any point. The 3/2/1 indicator (red/yellow) on the alti is clearly to the outside of the hand, and reversed or upside down, the thumb is on the inside. Something isn't adding up. Nor would upside down account for the canopy too close at deployment, flyer being too far away during the skydive, or looking straight at the ground during landing. I can't imagine TK is aware?
  14. Jeff, you're the attorney, but if I interpret Berne correctly (of which the US is a signatory) it's not that we don't recognize, but rather don't allow Berne to supercede our own existing laws and rights where applicable? It seems that every country is able to pick n' choose which parts of TEACH, Berne, DCMA, UCITA we want to observe/enforce? Or am I just missing the boat on this one?
  15. you cannot make this camera work in freefall. See the "Read Me" sticky.
  16. If the camera were mounted upside down, not only would the video be upside down but the hands would still be on the correct even after a flip in post processing. Additionally at 1:45, the pin check makes it fairly clear that the camera is in correct angle unless the OP is able to stand on his head while doing a pin check and using his hands. In the first vid, the altimeter is on the right hand, in the second half it's on the left hand, it's obvious, isn't it? And...how would the camera change from "upside down" mount to "correct angle of vision" mount in between jumps? Coupla comments...camera jumps aren't just "regular skydives" as your video shows. -Camera flyer is too high and barely to the side, putting him in perfect range for a deploying canopy. This is called the "no-fly" or "kill zone." -Camera flyer deploys very close an slightly below another canopy which is flying directly towards him. Don't know who is off heading, but it's pretty easy to see. -Either camera flyer is holding head WAY up in freefall, or WAY down in the aircraft, or never looks at the horizon on landing.
  17. nothing but problems with the eSata LaciE....We've got a stack of em'. Plus they use a weird, non-standard power supply. Glad they've worked for you, we've had a lot of problems, as have many others. Google "Lacie, big drives, problems." The commercial grade MyBooks are great. We used 3 of em' on the DZ this year in heat ranging from 110 to yesterday's 32....No hiccups.
  18. Your Canon records an MJPEG movie into either a Quicktime or avi container. You need an MJPEG decoder. Morgan makes the best freebie. Vegas Pro 8 comes with this decoder as part of the package. On the VASST website FAQ/Knowledgebase, there are links to the three most popular decoders.
  19. I have a NeoXS in one ear, and an Optima in the other. Neo is tougher, it's aluminum, Louder, with volume control. Hard pressed to say it's "better." It has a few more options, price is right, it's slightly heavier. It beeps when it's supposed to, and set to its default setting, the NeoXS is significantly louder than the Optima. Can't comment on customer service from ParaSport as I haven't needed it. They do have a US distributor that apparently handles all warranty claim so I assume it's fast. I can see them being equal to L&B, but I'd be surprised if they could be better than L&B for customer care.

God makes conflicting statements in Texas. God told one man to kill a woman yesterday because she was "not driving like a Christian should drive." But then God saved the woman's life. The Lord truly works in mysterious ways in Texas.
  21. Last chances, all... Sunday I'll post the "real" contest...winner to be decided by community vote. Get your tips, hints, ideas, doo's, doon'ts... Last call, that's all.
  22. See pictures of the cut-down corners on my Voodoo here. they're cut to where there is only approx .5" at the bottom of the pack tray, allowing the Dbag to leave straight off. It's a very different feeling at deployment compared to my Talon FX and Stunts Eclipse rigs.
  23. no collusion laws broken, and if enough folks are interested, I'll put together a brief article on photo pricing, current market values, etc based on the industry rags and distribution channel buys? Selling electronic photos with a license is cool, if you're cautious and know how to manage it.

    LCD panel tv's

Another thing to check is that cables are good. A bad shield could be an issue. Or, poor reception. Or...simply a bad upconverter (bad as in not very good, not "bad, as in broken")
  25. The Intensity is now in its second (technically third) generation, and we're using them pretty consistently. Virtually every NLE supports it, price is right, and its 10bit architecture (even though HDMI resets the last 2 bits to null) and associated codecs makes it a serious, albeit VERY low budget tool. They've got a new version coming, but not til April.
