  1. Looks like he paid for that "extra altitude."
  2. I highly recommend doing this on the ride up and not the ride down. Labrys, I took his sentence to mean "look down while under canopy @ 750'," not in freefall.
  3. so does mine, and there is a wingsuiter inside.
  4. k...I put my money where your mouth is. I'm here. In Zhills. Where the hell are you? Me n' Laszlo had a great meal w/out you tho.
  5. I have it here in Sebastian with me....but don't have a ruler. It's about 4" wide, 6" long, and 1.5" high.
  6. http://www.cypres.cc/Downloads/6_7_1_information_material/CYPRES_2_Sicherheitskarte.pdf Here ya go, Brook
  7. Sebastian. But I'm coming up your way for at least a day. Congrats, TK. You run a great place and deserve whatever good things come your way.
  8. I travel extensively, and usually have a rig. I don't pack it in anything, because I usually have my computer backpack with me too, and the airlines/security get a little squirrelly sometimes with two backpacks, but no one glances at the rig unless they think it's a backpack. Occasionally I've had someone want to know about "the explosive inside" and I politely explain that it's not quite accurate to call it that, and ask if they'd be comfortable with an explosive charge on their back? If they really push then I do have a copy of the TSA directive, the CYPRES card, and an Xray scan image that points out the parts. Only once have I had to show it, and that was at Ontario, after leaving Perris. Just arrived in MCO via two airports and two security checks, one in ATL and the other SLC. No problems at all. Like Dave says..."draw attention to your rig, and you'll get the attention you did/didn't want."
  9. I'd forgotten you'd told me that once.
  10. no, I did not include filters, as; =Filters rarely can be mounted on a wide =There is a reason for that =There would be/is no consistency of distance between filter and lens. Every piece of glass in the lower end has some impact on the image, no matter what. It may or may not be an eggregious impact, but it does carry an impact.
  11. Whether there is "the photo" or not, there are literally thousands. Just looking through pix for two guys in particular took multiple nights. Additionally, the organizers know they're going to be picked over like a carcass is picked over by vultures. I'd be hesitant too, at this point. The organizers don't get the same courtesy afforded a manufacturer that announces something a year early, posts teaser pix for a year...because it's ego, not biz that drives the desire to see the photos. But I digress.... a good friend called me on the phone to point out that it appears I'm being "personal" and not"professional. I'm not a professional, but... Yeah, I guess I am. I'll leave the discussion with this. I'm not gifted at being a comical arse like Vectorboy or Voodew. I'm not as diplomatic as Monkey. I have no tolerance for someone who attacks others for their attempts at anything. I grew up in an environment where all we ever heard was "you'll never be good enough" and "you're too stupid to get out of this place." In its own way, those sentiments drove me to do the best I can do at whatever I do. And believe in championing *anyone* who dares to dream, try, and most of all...fail. This attempt (or success, depending on who is telling the story) is another rung in a ladder that no one has yet seen the top of. I'm proud to not only be part of that rung, but to have been a part of encouraging it. I'm really proud to have had the opportunity to fly next to guys like Jason Carter, who worked his ass off simply to be part of this. It meant a lot to him. I was inspired as hell to see a guy like Brian Drake and his pegleg/cast, busting his hump to be just as fast, just as nimble, and work for his slot on every jump. The emotions that sprang from those encounters alone run deep, and there are many others. As a result, some of my posts in this thread have been somewhat less than "moderate." As a moderator, we dont' give up our right to express opinions or have feelings, but we are held to a higher standard. Ultimately I have no tolerance for naysayers that are more after knocking something down rather than building it up. IMO, that's simply bullshit. It's tough enough organizing an event like this one was with little budget, a lot of resistance, and some of the biggest names in the sport poo-poo'ing it. But they did it. Sadly enough they went from being admired to significantly less in my personal view. I watched Jeff and Justin in particular grow tremendously as leaders. I observed Ed Pawlowski and learned a lot from his attitude, demeanor, and tutelage of the captains. I enjoyed seeing Taya herd cats with ADD. She could organize grains of sand on the beach...And came to know Mark Harris as a first-class guy. There were others too...but these captains stuck out because they stepped up to their leadership roles and kicked ass. For me, that was the 71 way. I don't know that it was slot-perfect anymore than anyone knows it wasn't. I just know I was 1/70th of the unofficial, most beautiful, largest wingsuit formation ever built. If you didn't help build it, then your opinion is worth exactly what you put into the formation. I invested a lot into and got more out of it than I put in. More than I expected. So...if I wasn't part of a slot-perfect formation unofficial world record that will never be recognized by any officiating body other than my own... it was fun anyway. There will always be pissers that do whatever they can to knock others off the pedestal of their dreams and goals. Usually, that just inspires me to do better. This time, it inspired me to be an asshole. For that, I apologize. Thanks for the phone call, boss. I needed the reality check. After all, it is just skydiving.
  12. I'm enroute to Sebastian; gimme a couple days and I'll send some footage. The problem isn't the compression; it's how the shutter works. There is a lot of discusion on this on the Sony forums. We're updating our UpShift product to work with these files.
  13. I'd recommend you get a few more jumps under your belt before putting on a camera. here is a good thread to read, from someone with twice the number of jumps you have, about his first couple of camera jumps. He also, was using a sport-type camera. Be safe out there!
  14. SEARCH is your buddy... There should be a lengthy review posted here on DZ.com sometime soon
  15. With my infinite wisdom I've selected these posts as "finalists" in this small contest I wanted to hold to provide some good, in-one-place-thread info for newbie and wanna-be camera flyiers. There will be a prize, and it will be sent to the winner after y'all have voted. Option 1 From Phreezone Option 2 From VideoFly Option 3 From Pia Henzi Option 4 From Jimmy Tavino Option 5 From Kefran Option 6 From Birdwoman Edited to add: Contest will be over on Christmas Eve. The prize is valued at 129.00....
  16. "Judges" Jeff Nebelkopf Taya Weiss Mark Harris Phil Peggs Justin Shorb Ed Palowski Quit playing the victim role, no one has attacked you at any point. The flip side is you've denigrated this event since it was announced. My apologies, I was completely unaware anything was owed to anyone not at the event?
  17. I'm dim. What is the difference between "Qualified, certified, and ratified?" Who provides the qualification, certification, and/or ratification?
  18. A pretty straight forward article on the incident. A quote: "I'm sure many Iraqis want to do what Muntazer did. Muntazer used to say all the orphans whose father were killed are because of Bush." Throwing shoes at someone is the worst possible insult in the Arab world. A resident of a war-torn country insulted the US President that made the faulty decision. Bush is already going down in infamy; this only adds a punctuation mark to the story, IMO. A whole lot worse things have been said (and attempted) about our President elect.
  19. I'm not looking through anything. Not my job. I have a life, business to run.... I turned over half a TB of photos and video from three videographers and 7 photographers, Matt kept his photos to himself. I didn't judge the formation. Before nor after the event. Apparently that's your job. I served as scribe. Wouldn't that be a question for you to answer? I was under the impression that you're the wingsuiting FAI guy.
  20. Sometimes silence is a very loud statement. The guy made a very loud political statement. Maybe not one either of us agree with. But a loud one, nonetheless. He risked his life to say something on behalf of his peers. I don't agree with how/what he did, but admire someone that has the courage to stand up and speak out, regardless of the cause. Dissatisfaction is a catalyst for change. His act may have given a few people a momentary sense of pride, as a whole lot more people have likely felt like throwing shoes, but he had the courage to act on those feelings. No one was at risk when it occurred, the only person at risk was the aggressor. Like Quade, I'm stunned he wasn't shot at the act, and more surprised he's not being beaten to a pulp by the SS. He is a protester. Nothing more. He'll probably pay a significantly higher price for his actions than a kid chaining himself to a piece of heavy equipment. I'm not at all defending his behavior but I'm also not seeing it as a reason to go to war, either. oops... Too late.
  21. Chris, you brought up a great point... It's even in our own 1394 FAQ.... Lucent and VIA chipsets are known culprits in the 1394 game. They don't support a lot of cameras/peripherals
  22. had a wordy response, but Phree put it more succinctly. There are few means of reasonably testing. You're invited to my store. I let you in because I trust you and you're paying for the experience. You come in regularly, we get to know each other as reasonable acquaintences. You come in one day when I'm having lunch and trash the place. That's oversimplification, but somewhat similar. This is happening to *many* websites that are *much* bigger, broader, and more trafficked than DZ.com. It can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone. Sucks that it happened here, as mods several of us have spent a fair amount of private time helping folks that got bitten by it. Maybe DZ.com should be like Facebook and say "tough shit, you signed a TOS when you signed up?" That's not likely going to ever happen here. Based on conversations and posts with J_ung, I feel we can all feel more comfortable knowing that steps are being taken to look out for this relatively new form of threat, which is more than a few significantly larger websites are doing. Apple is now recommending users install antivirus and malware protection. Apple. The same people that brought you ads saying they're impervious to virus'.
  23. You think actions like that are appropriate? Seriously? If someone threw a fucking shoe at Ahmadinejad when he was here then you'd be all up in arms about how disrespectful Americans are. . I would? nope..not me. I feel it's appropriate that someone had an opportunity to tell America what they feel, directed at the person currently most representative of our country, and currently most responsible for the situation existing in Iraq from a "man on the street" in Iraq. Bush was never at risk, only horribly embarrassed. As should America for the situation we've created over there. I'm glad I'm not showing a US passport when I'm in places like Dubai, Mumbai, or even Tel Aviv, for that matter.
  24. Hmm.....Edmonton, Calgary, and Ermineskin are as close as I'm gonna get. Was in Winnipeg a couple weeks ago... Teaching the AB broadcasters about HD in Jan/Feb. I'll have the MC1 if you wanna travel over.
