Start getting used to thinking of a skydive as a 3d flight path where you're going somewhere. Where you got out where you're going and where you want to be when you open. Keeping track of that at all times throughout the skydive is a critical foundation skill especially for wingsuit flying. *** This.

When I came back from my back/pelvis accident, the Pulse was my choice of canopy. A few thousand jumps later, I'm back under a storm, but still jump the pulse for demos and other things It opens softly, usually on-heading. It packs easily. Spectres on Dacron open nicely; I went down that road after talking to some camera friends, but found I preferred the Storm. However, the Storm is a bit aggressive at landing; if you're not current it wouldn't be the top of my list. PD will demo whatever you'd like, or if you find yourself in the SoCal region, I've got demos of Pulse, Storm, and Silhouette in 190 sizes.

likely, you're killing your RAM with the stills. In preferences, set the RAM to 0, see if that fixes things.

nope, no size limitation on mp4. Question; can you put the rendered file back on the Vegas timeline to edit it? Also, what are the source file formats?

Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise

Acoustic panels from Auralex do nothing to reduce STC from outside an environment, they're designed to inhibit reflections from inside environments. Hopefully the case will be filed, heard, and dismissed with cause and she'll be required to pay damages to the DZ. -
My bad. That damn "chain of three" thing just doesn't apply to some people. Some even push it to a chain of four, get away with it, and think they're super skilled when they're done.

Great shot! (and Nic rocks!)

How many jumps did you actually have? 195 I didn't even get that much blood on my wingsuit! And most of it wasn't mine... I was on track for 200 before the jump but I had a head cold/sinus infection for a couple weeks before the jump. Didn't even want to do a hop and pop with my ears clogged up like that. I figured with 3 hours of tunnel time now, 5 more jumps this way or that wouldn't make a difference, and I was right. You weren't "right." This is a BSR (Basic Safety Requirement). Your "instructor" violated the BSR, you had linetwists, and landed off the DZ. This also puts your instructor's standing with USPA at risk. All three are indicators of the typical terrible instruction that are causing problems for wingsuiters around the globe. 200 jumps is a threshold indicator for being able to put on a wingsuit. Just because you have reached 200 jumps doesn't mean you're ready for a wingsuit (or any other advanced discipline).

First, congrats on your FFC. Second, why the linetwists? More importantly, why the off landing?

Bear in mind, Canon did things differently than everyone else. They turned OFF the 4:2:2 because of how their system works.
-
The "best method" is also determined by how high up the lines the twists are. If they're low/near the riser, squeezing works well. If they're high, pulling apart works better. FWIW, I don't kick any more, but YMMV. Neither of the two methods in shown in the video use kicking. Jan Meyer has some data on this somewhere, too.
-
https://vimeo.com/29103767 offers two methods.

These are nice toys. FWIW, the 1080 4:2:2 over HDMI has always been there (on all HDMI devices). It's just that now it's become a marketing bullet. The limitation is still 8 bit over HDMI, however. The audio is audio. Nothing special.

I'm sure you can easily find a kid that grew out of a very bad female/male parental combination, with great successes behind him. However, there isn't a nation-wide, conservative agenda making claims that a successful, well-balanced person can't come out of a heterosexual household. But there is a very loud, well-funded group of people making claims that a successful, well-balanced person cannot come from a single sex set of parents.

Quite a few "old farts" teach "balling up." Very surprised you've not heard of it, as it was one of the first things I was told by an AFFI when I first got into the sport. A person who is considered a guru in our sport recently got into a situation with a wingsuit. He balled up as taught as part of a very specific (and very incorrect) means of instability recovery. It didn't work, and he made a video about how it scared him. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4548611#4548611 He points out in private mail that he's an instructor in the discipline (point being, time in sport doesn't _always_ translate into greater knowledge). Yet any wingsuit instructor who actually has a background in wingsuit instruction will teach a modified delta as a recovery method, and most (hopefully) no longer even mention the antiquated ball-up myth. Although this conversation isn't about wingsuits, the same concepts apply with or without the added fabric. pchapman; a few years back, Phillip Starbuck and I engaged an experiment with flat spins and instability in a variety of wingsuits. he built the technology used to measure the rotational speeds and forces. It proved quickly that the 'old methods' of balling up were farcical. You'll also find in some early instruction that one should cutaway wings during instability.

Anyone buy a Chris Kotscha (Freefalljump.com) wing suit in 2013?
DSE replied to rj2163's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I did order it as a test suit for students in our fleet; it appears to be very tough/rugged in make. How it flies... we'll see. One jump is't a lot. Delivery time was said to be "a few weeks." I didn't push for anything more specific. Of all the manufacturers, I'll say they take more measurements than anyone, including for a Vampire. I don't yet know what those measurements will yield. -
That you're being pissy and useless in an otherwise productive and positive conversation? I don't recall Jarno saying one way or another, but for the sake of argument... Brian is very lightweight in a very large suit. That tends to support the idea that a large suit makes a higher GR possible. Therefore, if the larger suit tends to lend itself alone to a higher GR, and then said larger suit is wrapped around a lightweight pilot, you'll get yet another gain in GR, right? Toss in an exceptionally skilled pilot like Brian, and you've got yet more gain. It ain't exactly rocket science.

I'm using the lowboy. It's as low profile as it gets. Using on a Tonfly CC1, CC3, and Bonehead FTP

you've got this right. Many do teach "curl up in a ball" but have never tried it themselves. We recently saw this create some excitement in the wingsuit world too, where the uninformed teach 'curl up in a ball.' Curling up in a ball only works for some body types, and even then, it's a crap shoot because it adds speed. Once coming out of the ball, it's quite possible/likely that whatever induced the instability in the first place, will return. Anyone around you might be surprised at the direction you come out of the ball, and you might collide with someone. The delta/swept arch at the least, provides a head(ing) indication for when you do get stable.

This is a hint of a clue, because leg wing inflating or not, you shouldn't be sinking. I'm a heavy guy, I have to fly a bit differently than the lighter guys. Butt cheeks squeezed, feet out to the side may make a big difference.

they are....interesting. Kevlar-infused parapack, very slippery. they do seem to fit well, I'll have one in a few weeks to put into the student fleet. I'll offer up an opinion that goes beyond one jump after that. -
I'll wager he has. Bill has probably done a _lot_ of things that today's skydivers would be shocked at. I believe he still holds the record for the most expensive camera jump in history. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVvMGLJ0xww[url] (another of Bill's famous antics)

This year's Performance Cup was terrific! Great vibe, sweet sharing amongst the competitors, best variation of any year. Phoenix-Fly, TonySuit, Squirrel, and Redline suits in the mix this year. Saw the most intense competition ever, too. What else was great was seeing the camaraderie between the competitors, and seeing the mutual respect everyone paid each other. Weather was awesome, ridiculously warm compared to previous years, with temps reaching 92 on Saturday. All runs were done downwind, loads 1-4 had uppers of 0-5, load 5 had 25-30 (according to gov website, but our pilot said it was zip, and scores more or less reflected it was 0-5) Load 6 was 0, I rode right seat and watched the winds on the GPS and airspeed indicators myself (was also fun to chase/watch the last two competitors on their comp runs). Thanks to all that participated, congrats to those that scored cups and medals. Kudos to everyone involved; judges, manifest, pilots, S&TA, competitors.
