  1. if it's widescreen tandem, export it as .mp4 at a size of 640 x 360, 10Mpbs max. Easy peasy. That'll upload nicely to Vimeo/YouTube, etc.
  2. nah, just missed a word. 1.9mp is the standard of HD, and 2.1 megapixels is the most HD can be due to the restrictions of the format. On the advice of a few here in this forum, I'm trying to be technically minimalistic and sometimes that means I miss important worms. werds words
  3. I'll see whatI can do. The powerpoint can be uploaded for sure. The room? If it's dark in there, no point in trying to shoot it. I'm signed on for a one-shot presentation...editing, correcting, and uploading (not to mention bleeping certain words) isn't in my contract. But...I'll see if someone wants to help with the effort. With all the changes over to HD cams on the dropzone, seems I'm constantly answering questions about editing, storage, Xfer, shooting modes, etc. ~d
  4. You can't grab 8 meg stills from video. Video by definition, can't be more than 1.9 pixels, no matter the size of the sensor. That said, this camera shoots a separate stream. However, it's still a low end lens with no color timing. But....it might work. We'll see. Canon USA has been promising one since I saw it at CES. Still hasn't arrived, however. OIS on Canon is very different than OIS on Sony. Sony used to license their stabilization from Canon, then Canon changed out their system (still the best in the world on still lenses, IMO), and Sony went their own way. Panasonic uses a variant of the Canon system. Canon freefloats the lenses whether stabilization is turned on or not. This camera *may* be different, because this camera didn't originate with the video design group like previous Vixia cams did. Canon has been doing some pretty amazing things with video lately, and their new imagers are scary cool.
  5. So far, from mainland we have: Andreea O Rick H Scotty B Jason C Aaron H Jose C Alphonso P DSE with a couple of others anticipated. JC Colclasure, Tom Deacon, and a couple of others from Skydive Hawaii in the flock too. Gonna be a great time if you're still on the fence. 15k to sea level, whales are still around nice flights. We'll be doing some distance runs from Haleiwa, lunch at Kua'iina Burger brought in on Sat. FFC's too.
  6. Hey y'all... On Saturday, April 3, we'll be having a 60 minute class with 30 min Q/A on high definitiion for skydiving, at Skydive Elsinore. Free We'll be talking about the cameras, camera choices, understanding the various formats, etc. We'll also cover computers, editing, delivery. Hope to see some of ya there.
  7. Laszlo had some adapters that work for start/stop/off. But I'd sure recommend a HypEye for the time, trouble, stability, and mental frustration.
  8. The more images we have from a variety of sources/cameras, the more comparisons we can make regarding vertical separation (camera to formation), lens distortions, resolution either from low rez camera/frame grab or zooming in/cropping to enlarge the formation fill in the frame), angular interpretation (camera being back, front, side of formation), We can have a wingsuit formation library box here on DZ.com, but we're limited to 200k images.
  9. There are several of us involved that are intimately familiar with SQA processes, have our own software companies, and have actually had a conversation (several) about how to go about it. Andreea said it best..."This is BETA-ware for fuck's sake." Play for a while. I'd propose we worry about how the software works, where it's awesome, where it's weak, what more the community would like it to be different...before we worry about "certification" (which doesn't exist for the box method either). Since you already have Bootcamp installed, this should be a no-brainer for you to play with. I'm running mine on Bootcamp, have been since August. The virtual solution is free. Apple provided it for you. Parallels not necessary. There are other free tools too, if you need to share files across the OS. Play for a while. Have fun with it. It's free, it's wingie-weinie compatible, and it hopefully will open up a dialog about what's needed and what isn't. ps...it's not a judging software. It's a prebrief and debrief system, just like the splash says.
  10. East or west coast? Lots going on at S'nore. Two Otters already running sometimes this early in the year, and in May...two otters runningmost oft the time. It was a chilly 73 here today
  11. The lines *can* be created as you dot the heads. In other words, pretty well what you're asking, so you can see how the formation is shaping up as you dot the heads
  12. Do the same formation with 25% skew/tolerance. It works (it's one of the test pieces I used, and was going to show during the Elsinore event). The pepperell 16 way is marginally tighter...even though the camera angle is off.
  13. Dunno about that legend either, but I DO know of a wingsuiter that used automotive tape to tape a skydiver smoke canister directly to his shoe. It burned through his wingsuit, his shoe, and gave him very nasty burns on his foot that still haven't completely healed 7 months after the experience. Twardo, I'll buy a couple of these if you can get the price at a reasonable level. Don't know if its a "urban skydiving legend" or not... but that kinda reminds me of the story I've heard about "the guy" that "thought" it was a good idea to just duct tape an M-18 smoke grenade to his shoe and set it off while leaving the airplane... Anyway, M-18s are fun! ... but after having popped a few on the ground and seen them burn through the side or sort of "detonate" rather than "burn" AND having seen what they can do to one's gear when jumping with them... I'm not so sure I'd ever jump with one unless I'm getting PAID to do so... but I guess that's what y'all "Pros" get paid for!
  14. Thanks for getting this build out there for folks to play with Tom. In case y'all haven't met Tom, he's a newer wingsuiter, and he flies very well (insane forward speed). A lot of different folks offered input to the beginning stages of the software. Hopefully now that the community has it for testing, it'll grow more powerful from the community input. Another thing this is good for is pre-briefing. Build your formation in the software before the jump (including names and suit colors) and then go jump. Then it's a very simple matter to overlay the pre-designated formation over a still of the actual jump. Great for being able to say "guy XXX, you were XX too far to the right, adjust your sight picture a little this/that way." Maybe save some templates for your jumps as well. Hopefully we'll soon have a library of formations that we can use as a "formation pool."
  15. Yes, there are a lot of good videos in there for newbie jumpers, and some good stuff for experienced jumpers. I probably should make a "skydiving" channel on that page so that folks don't have to wade through the camera and software stuff too. Glad you like it, thanks for the kind words. As a funny/ironic side note, the OP is borrowing a 190 rig of mine to use as she learns to pack, and she's put a few jumps on it. That rig has a 9' bridle. One of the experienced jumpers saw her packing that and poor kid got a lecture on how extended bridles are dangerous and why wingsuiters are dumb for using them.
  16. The Canadian side merely is acting as the TSA has instructed them to do for flights destined for the USA. Only yesterday I had to deal with security in YEG and YEC and was able to have a fairly lengthy chat with one of the supervisors. Much of the money being spent in Canadian airports comes from the US/Homeland Security. That was a surprise to me. Flights into the USA now only allow one carryon plus one laptop bag. Until a month ago, the laptop bag could not have shoulder straps so laptop backpacks and a standard carryon suitcase were not permitted. Carrying a rig and a laptop case with shoulderstraps still isn't permitted.
  17. A-you don't know Pete opened lower than 2.5k. I have every reason to believe he did. He was open at least 500' higher than the videographer who was in the saddle around 1.8, and in all likelihood much higher than the 500' estimate. Pete was pretty conservative. B-I'll bet the farm that Pete's situation was medical/health related and not related in any significant way to canopy choice. A hard opening on a Stiletto is not any different than a hard opening on a Pilot. Hard openings (assuming that's what caused his loss of self-ability) come from everything. That said...it's already not a great year.
  18. I'd be willing to bet a lot that this is not what happened to Pete. From ground and video observation, I'm confident that something occurred at opening that incapacitated him. He is observed/recorded under canopy almost immediately following opening and he is non-responsive through the entire descent. The spin is not "violent" but rather like a half-brake toggle turn to one side (both toggles were stowed).
  19. Stephan is a pretty tall dude. Here he is doing his FFC at Zhills. When he flattened out, he took off like a rocket. Jarno, I like the "747 Club" idea! Kinda like the Anvil Bro's for super tall wingsuiters. Maybe guys 6'5" and taller only need apply?
  20. I honestly don't know how I feel about length of copyright protections. In my den is a stitching horse that my great great grandfather built. It's mine, passed down through the generations. Copyright law seems to protect the heirs of those that build creative works, much like my physical possession allows me to continue to pass on the stitching horse to my children.
  21. Have to laugh, Stephan's Phantom 2 and Piotr's Raptor both have more fabric than my SM. They're both 6'5" plus.
  22. OK....A guy does a static line jump in West Jordan, Utah nearly 30 years ago. Hated it. 25 years roll past and he wants to try it again. In 5 years, he racks up 1600 jumps. He can truthfully say he's done 1600 jumps in 30 years. Would you suggest he has greater knowledge and longevity than Skydiver B, who got just as many jumps in 2 years?
  23. Boxes from Cookie, Tonfly, and Bonehead are available, plus a few boutique/special boxes here and there. Best one I've seen was made from an electrical junction box. HypEye D controls the camera; only way to fly, IMO. Yes, it controls the 150 as well. Lenses Bill mentioned work on it too. Small correction point, you can use older, SD lenses on the HD camcorders and you'll still have an HD image, but you'll have lost so much resolution due to the glass mismatch and optical quality that it'll be soft like an SD image in an HD stream. Your soft image will be stunningly soft.

Be good to have you on those distance dives, Kipp. You sure were kickin' ass in Zhills. Get Joel to keep on it; he might be ready for the distance runs too.
