Some super great loads today, some organized by Callantine, others by Shorb. Stu Lange and Jason Carter earned their PFC ratings today. We have around 20 wing weinies here with a few more expected tomorrow. Looking forward to the distance challenge and the catered dinner tomorrow night.

we just had TWO AWESOME loads, pretty clouds, cooperative pilot, big holes in the sky, pretty color suits (this seems to be the Red/Black and Yello/Blue event). Sweet times....aren't you sick or something? I bet you know a doctor that could send you home.

John, They're on the new PF website that is launching soon. Short answer to challenge the course: 100 WS jumps (minimum) Current USPA Coach (this is for residents of US only) The course itself requires a 6 hour ground training in the methodology/standardization of the program. It's nearly the same as a USPA Coach Course in terms of the teaching format. You must receive two Satisfactory Scores on the aerial evaluations. You have three jumps in which those scores must be achieved. There are other aspects, such as navigation, instability recovery (Stu has a great story now), and the basics, such as three gear checks (the stuff that every Instructor or Coach knows to do with every student). It's not an "easy" course. When you acheive the rating, you've definitely earned it.

Keith Richards can do it in TWO.

Worried about Bonehead's CX150 Top Mount Box
DSE replied to AdamSonOfJohn's topic in Photography and Video
Yep. It gets old, reading about all these guys with mad skillz that can't get distracted while wearing a camera. -
Andreea kicked ass yesterday and today, successfully challenging the Phoenix-Fly Coach course. Eval jumps with Scotty Burns and myself, she was a bulldog. Sweet job, Andreea!

for a second there, I thought maybe Batman was no longer in love with Wonder Woman and had thrown her over for Holly Narcissist.

I would submit that you're confusing the difference of technical quality (the GoPro and others like it are of bottom to middlin' at best), with quality of composition (best camera in the world can't compose a good frame). The issue (apparently you didn't read the sticky nor the incident list) has nothing to do with camera size, quality of image, nor even flight skills. It's not about hating GoPro or any other camera. It's about recognizing that the cameras are small enough that a lot of people get away with being less safe and putting themselves and others in harms way.

A VOB is a Video Object and yes, it *generally* is an MPEG file. Are you ripping from a commercial DVD or from a skydiving/dropzone tandem DVD?

For purposes of clarity, the Wingsuit Advanced Coach (or Instructor) program had already been written, accepted in principle by the USPA S&T committee. The syllabus for the program is the new addition to the SIM Section 6.2. The I/E program had also been authored and proposed. All but one wingsuit manufacturer was on board with an instructional rating, two of them had representatives there begging USPA for this rating. Only one wingsuit manufacturer, perceived as the "big dog" due to ignorance on the part of S&T Committee members, was opposed to the instructional rating. As a group of 7 wingsuiters, all of us but one (who represented the manufacturer) were in agreement on the rating, and there were 9 more who had assisted in authoring the materials that had expressed their support for the rating. In addition, there was a USPA poll lasting 6 months that supported the addition of the instructional rating. In other words, all the components you mention Dave, were/are in place. All but one manufacturer have agreed to adhere to the content and methods in the SIM 6.2 additions. I hope that one day we'll be able to have the BSR and rating too. That would be the safest process, IMO. I feel it would be the same if there were a canopy progression that included an advanced Coach/Instructor, and BSR. Faced with a choice of one or the other, I'd prefer a mandated and well-supported instructional program. I think we're on the same page here.

use a conversion tool to convert it from MPEG to AIC or other container that iMovie speaks to. Handbrake works well.

As the person who proposed and argued for the wingsuit BSR, this is not accurate. Because a ingsuit manufacturer was steadfastly against a USPA Wingsuit Instructor (or Advanced Coach) Rating, the next logical step was to propose the BSR. I would gratefully, gladly see the BSR rescinded in favor of a Wingsuit Instructor (or advanced Coach) rating implemented from USPA. Hopefully the additons to the SIM are a step in that direction. I'd equally love to see a Canopy Instructor/Coach rating from USPA, and some form of progression monitoring system for S&TA's, DZO's, or license advancements that preclude/reduce pencil-whipping licenses and promote more intelligent downsizing considerations and progressions. From my perspective, intelligent and well-developed educational programs and promotion of those programs are more effective than rules/BSR's. If we had more of a USPA statement on canopy safety, camera safety, etc (vs the pablum we occasionally see out there) I suspect we could make strong steps towards a better informed culture.

that's when you imagine DSE in the Gloryhole You just go right on wishin', big guy. I think I prefer the term "Halo." Everyone knows wingsuiters are angels.
-
At least you got the USPA to institute a Canopy Progression card (that almost no one uses). Get a group together and stand in front of the USPA BOD so they can look you in the eye when they say "no."
-
Aw hell...I didn't know that's called "The Glory." Wingsuiters see this *all* the time. It's part of the rush. We don't need to punch clouds to see it, we just fly over em'. It's worth flying to Zhills, Elsinore, or Hawaii just to see this on a regular basis (in a wingsuit). Thanks for "enlightening" me, Paul

Mike, that is a very helpful. I'm still looking for a bed or two since the motels around here are all packed due to the NASCAR event. Grateful to have found a caterer.... People are arriving...just picked up Supa Girrrl. Time for some hot tubbin...

I once dated a woman named Glory but I think she's a lot older than you.

At 300.00, you're right on the tipping point. Spend just over 200.00 and you get a decent camera but miss a lot of great features. Spend just under 400.00 and you get the kitchen sink. I like my H55 for what it is, it's taken some great shots. Here are some scouting shots I took with it yesterday. Some of those shots are Blackberry Storm in a dark setting, but most are the 55. It's on a lot of sites for around 249.00. it's only 720p video, but the pix are pretty decent, it has a good lens. The digital zoom blows but all of em' do.

Other than a couple, the "incidents" are pasted from PM's. Yours is culled straight from your own thread. Yours was just too easy. "I know I ignored the recommendations, I had a cutaway and my mad skillz saved me. I'm still jumpin' a camera because I've proven I gots the skillz. I agree, not everyone is as heads-up as me." You don't think it's dramatic that you didn't pull your reserve handle in a cutaway scenario? Maybe a revisit to an FJC is in order. Or you could heed DiabloPilot's advice found earlier in this thread. Now _that_ is dramatic. (but probably very sound advice).

You specifically said: The tape will not rip off before there is an issue. If the line snag occurs between the plastic and the helmet, it's going to be a real problem. If it snags above the plastic mount and on the camera itself, then the camera mount will break. The tape does not give easily. There is enough force from a line snagged on the tape to do damage to your neck given the opportunity.

it's been posted for a coupla weeks now.

David, Thank you! I'm glad to have been wrong. My next email is to Klaus. Ive been dealing with the shortcomings of Jumptrack because I prefer my Altitrack over anything else I've tried and I log much more legibly when I type vs write (those of you who have seen my handwriting know what I'm sayin...)

Facebook "Wingsuits Over Utah" page. It's public. No, not proximity flying. We'll be exiting over this mountain peak and flying down the ridgeline, but it's a skydive with legal altitudes all the way. Just a fun jump over a gorgeous area that has very limited access.

1 - Which PdG,,,? ok... sorry 2 - Not "Flew"...body position... Hope to see you soon then... You might share Deug's initials, but there is only one PdG.... Body position isn't "flying" as in past tense "flew?" September...see you there.
