  1. L12-5 fused, plus bolt across SI joint (both), and plate over pubis with 6 long screws into symphisys pubis. 2K jumps since that incident, still goin' strong. I use canopies known for soft openings, have had a cracker or two, and been fine.
  2. Ditto. I've upsized from the 135 to a 150, and currently under a 170 Pulse while rehabbing my knee. Some folks are into the skydive, and the parachute is merely a mechanism to safely get one back on the ground. Swooping does not need to be a component. The only other reason I can think of for downsizing, is some folks want teenie rigs on their backs cuz they look more cool.
  3. the bigger PC is kind of an urban myth, IMO. The longer bridle is not. As Pete said, the Stiletto/Spinetto isn't really ideal for wingsuiting. More than that, a bad body position is merely going to be amplified in a wingsuit.
  4. It may have been intended to be for much more noble purpose, but in modern times, Twitter, Facebook, bumper stickers, Tshirts. billboards, and graffiti are the primary beneficiaries of the founding father's vision.
  5. Full story: http://www.live5news.com/story/15154990/sc-woman-gets-jury-trial-for-display Your poll doesn't allow for "They're offensive and should be allowed." It's free speech. They're just as stupid as the truckers that have the naked silhouettes of women on their mudflaps, just as stupid as sticking big tit outlines on their rear window. But...that's what the first amendment is for; to allow people to display their ignorance and brilliance without inhibition.
  6. When military groups from foreign countries are training at a DZ, they often require fully equipped EMT(s) onsight, and in one instance I'm aware of, an ambulance was also required to be on-site. Unique circumstances to be sure, but to a visiting skydiver, it might look like the EMT's or ambulance were part of the staff.
  7. 3 of them to date: ~on a wingsuit "challenge" event where all participants were supposed to have "tried out" and "everyone will be very experienced." A guy was flying above me, and apparently he had not yet learned to slow/stop a dive. He hit me in the back of the head so hard that it knocked out a molar, tore my lens and battery from my camera, and shattered the LCD screen. I saw stars for quite a while. Turns out the "very experienced" kid had 30-odd wingsuit jumps. Between the tooth, camera, jump tix, flight, and hotel, it was a 5K$ jump for me. Lesson learned: know abilities of anyone on a challenging jump before getting on the plane with them. Demand organizers provide that information up front if they've deviated from their evaluation process. Second was a demo I; a new camera flyer at the DZ was added to the demo. I was under a 190 Silhouette, he was under a JVX 94. He was flying straight towards me coming out of a 180 turn. I turned right, so did he. End cells were perhaps 3' apart, we both were shakey on landing. Lesson learned; never exit after "that guy."
  8. This.... Buying a wingsuit before you've flown one, before you've gotten training isn't smart. I have suits from both TonySuits and PF in our wingsuit stable, should you be able to come to Skydive Elsinore. Either way...get training, try a coupla suits before you buy.
  9. You might want to do a search on here about distorting your wing, brakes, front risers in turbulence. You want to let your canopy fly in most situations. PD has a good document on this as well. Are your instructors counseling you to use front risers in turbulence?
  10. There are still some resellers around that have em', and there are refurbs, but Sony discontinued them when their stock ran out. Sony's current lineup
  11. CX100/CX110 have been discontinued for over a year. They're hard to find.
  12. Paralog is very flexible, has some awesome features like GPS import (fairly useful for CRW or wingsuiting) Jumptrack is MUCH faster, has a few easier options and is a better logger, IMO. I use both, but have resorted to Jumptrack for logging and Paralog for GPS reading. You can use multiple devices on Paralog, and import the Jumptrack log to Paralog at any time. Fair warning; if you use multiple devices on Paralog, you have to buy a license for each additional device, and unless you're good at reading fine print in a license, you won't know that until you've frustrated yourself for a while.
  13. No kidding. I've known Jon for 35 years. He's a straight up guy, and actually quite liberal (exceptionally educated, has adopted children from China, speaks both Chinese dialects fluently, musically talented) and although he's a Mormon, he's a real person first. Find one of my old posts on Mitt; he was busted for lying to LEO when he was living here in Utah during the Olympics. Had to work around him for a coupla months; the guy is a teflon monster. Jon doesn't have much of a chance, but he'd be very good in the office. His running mate for Lieutenant Gov in Utah is rapidly undoing a lot of the very good things Huntsman did for the state. Gov. Herbert is a close contemporary (and former business associate) of Romney. Romney's sons serve as "advisors" to Herbert, who is deeply in the pocket of the LDS faith. Huntsman isn't the favored boy amongst Utah's faithful.

    Apache X

All the back/forth about the guy diving in the dirt, Jeb coming closer/farther/left/right/whatever....that's all well and good. It's a cool shot, cool angle, no one died. That might be attributable to luck, to skill, or to the FSM looking out for everyone, particularly the balloons. What I'd like to know about is the disparity between Tony's blog, FB, what people who were there are saying, and what is the truth regarding Tony's runs in the Apache vs every one else runs in whatever suit they might be wearing. Lotsa hyperbole and marketing speak; can anyone who was there provide more detail (such as Henrik alluded to)?
  15. I'd be really surprised if you're doctor is good with you being on a walker for anything but going to the washroom and other necessities. Keeping the leg elevated is pretty important in the first weeks, keeping it cold helps. I became pretty dependent on my circulating ice pump. Like others said...when the doc says "keep weight off of it" he means it. I wish like hell I'd listened better to my docs...I can never get my pins nor screws removed (I bent them due to getting active before I should have).
  16. This seems to be the common assumption, but the reality is that without leverage, the mount doesn't seem to let go nor does the plastic break as easily as folks assume. Blaming the camera isn't correct of course, but it's fair to say that small format cameras are not nearly as well thought out as their larger counterparts (from the user perspective). The small size seems to make them seem less of a risk/threat to safety precautions.
  17. That is a *very* misleading (and probably sponsored/paid) article. The technology used via the CUDA cards has been around since the early days of Dynapel (12 years+ ago). Military was using it then too, but for other applications. The UAV footage is stabilized via an *entirely* different method using the same algorithms, yet in real-time using dedicated hardware systems. Back to your question...any of the stabilizers out there are pretty good, even the crappy one in iMovie. Picture is softer, and there are some SAR violations that occasionally occur, but overall...they're all pretty good at motion compensation, pixel/contrast tracking. And if you have the time...yes, these software tools can do a lot of good.
  18. Same method as Parachutes de France recommends on at least some of the rigs they offer. I've heard it referred to as a 'french tickler.' This is how my rig is packed. My rigs have no Velcro for the bridle loop. It -does- have possibility (if too much loop is left, and above the pin) to loop around the closing pin. Pack your rig this way; it becomes immediately apparent. It's like any other pack job; if you do this/that might happen...
  19. Sucks for Tony, his employees, and his customers. Good wishes and hopes they get it rolling again soon.
  20. work on skills on the ground. That's where a coach can provide the most benefit; on the ground. A good coach can work with you on the ground and work on hand signals to help you achieve goals that you both set on the ground. Ground time is cheaper than airtime, and that's a solid reason that good coaches cost a few $$.
  21. They don't fly any different. They just "feel" different. I like Parapak, always have. Balloon weighs less. If you plan on sliding in on your butt more than a coupla times, I'd DEFINITELY get Parapak.
  22. A reinstall won't likely fix a problem that is crashing-related. Source type? Timeline settings? Available RAM? Antivirus running? other apps running? peripherals plugged in? background tasks?
  23. like everyone else says, "Check Opacity." Ultimate S has an Audit tool that checks this. There are also some free scripts that check/audit to be sure that both event opacity and track opacity are at 100%
