SiCKO - What are your thoughts on Michael Moore's new film?
Royd replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
For the same reason so many people despise Rosie O'donnell. They're both loud mouthed pigs. -
Funny! The left is going to have to restring their fiddle and bow because they've been playing that tune for a long time.

There are men with guns and there are men who dig. You dig.

Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marx was an atheist, and religion, particularly Christanity, if practised, had to go underground. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So you think he had his political ideas because of his atheism? Communism is atheistic, the state is the supreme power and you must live by the dictates of the state or you perish. Free thinkers are the first to go. Sort of like today's university systems. Yea, I'm throwing a match into the gasoline.

That would be kind of like people claiming that they lost everything in Hurricane Katrina when they've never set foot in Louisiana.

Which do you think came first in their thought processes, atheism or communism? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marx was an atheist, and religion, particularly Christanity, if practised, had to go underground. Don't forget that the state becomes God.

How about we perform vasectomies on all males until they have proven themselves to be responsible humans. Then they could be restored to produce children.

Stalin, Lenin and Mao Tse Tung come to mind.

Here in the south, it's common for a waitress that you've never seen before, to call you honey, darlling, baby, or sweetie. It makes me want to throw tip money at them just for being kind. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a sweet southern drawl.

I think that you missed my point. The way that today's society and thinking is progressing, we will be doing abortions on women who's circumstances have led them down a rough road, and they won't be able to show that they can properly provide for the child. Also, are you saying that personal adversity doesn't produce a much stonger personality that someone who has been coddled every second of their life? I believe that we are talking about babies who are fortunate enough to forego death before they ever have a chance to prove themselves in society, but the mothers have decided to give up for whatever reason. Let's say out of the 40 million that have been destroyed over the last 45 yrs. 10 million turned out to be the dregs of the earth. Would you destroy the 30 million just to be sure that you eliminated the 10 million?

I voted never, simply because you've not allowed the extenuating circumstances where I'd give it a nod and a wink. Not being bothered with the inconvinience or for the sake of vanity just doesn't hold water in my little world.

Have you ever heard of the two second rule. 45' is about 1/2 seconds' distance. You should have been at least 150' behind him.

I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
Royd replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
I support stem cell research, but do not support federal funding of it. It might make you an evil capitalist instead of an altruistic socialist. -
Funny how in supporting the working class, they remove themselves from it.

>But, how are military & war funding related to funding of stem cell research? A few ways. I guess it's ok to play the morality card whenever it suits your side of the argument. -
Never came fucking back. You can't be a post whore with a chamois in your hand.

Are you saying that you don't have an opinion, or that you're just a follower of the crowd. If society decided that when you decide to retire, that you are no longer a productive member of society, then it's time for you to go, you'd give it a thumbs up?
-
>My main argument here is that if the child is viable, either on its own, >or through the use of medical technology, at the time the decision for >abortion is made, why does the child have to die? That would eliminate partial birth abortion from the picture, but that would be going backward politcally, and that can't be allowed.

All you have to do is look at who opposes the Death With Dignity Law that I voted for when I lived in Oregon. Rather then just letting someone in great pain and suffering pass on.. the doctors and medical community..fight it tooth and nail... why.. FOLLOW the MONEY... they make money.. the drug companies make even more money on t he stuff that purports to deaden the excruciating pain. You might want to jump over to the stem cell thread and voice your opinion. Which argument would you use? Follow the money, or GWB is against it, so I'm for it?

Royd replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
If religion and politics are diametrically opposed, then the same rule should be applied to science, since research is quite often controversial. It's pretty hard to have clean hands, politically, if some research company has paid your way to Washington. -

I've given this some thought last night. The object is to advanvce the knowledge of embryonic stem cell research. Why does the base work HAVE to be done on human stem cells? It seems to me that all of the basic research could be done using animals. If you want to grow a new liver, then grow a pig liver first, to prove that it can be done. The refusal to do so would indicate the possibility of a political agenda. Maybe they're just worried about the radical animal activists busting up their labs over the use of rat embryonic stem cells. -
Looks like the Virgin Mary to me.

They wouldn't even need all of that other eye candy.

Geez, how hard can it really be. Maybe the kid has been watching the procedure for years.
