"But by changing the attitude of the wing too abruptly, you run the risk of disrupting the flow of air across the top of the wing and run the risk of stalling at too high of an airspeed (plus why do you think a wing will stall at a higher airspeed when you're in a turn and/or landing using only your rears versus toggles, ... landing on toggles is analogous to an airplane pilot who uses flaps ... flaps allow the wing to fly at a slower airspeed). " exactly, this is called a high speed stall and also happens in aircraft. as for the flaps the reason they help the plane fly more slowly as they add more surface area to the wing. as they extend outward they add more surface area, as they move down they increase the camber, or curvature of the airfoil. this tricks the wing into thinking you are at a lower angle of attack. using a 182 for example, you can land no flap pretty slow, but you will be very nose high to fly this slow. ive hit the tie down ring on the tailcone before using 40 degrees of flaps will be able to fly slower and make the landing less nose high. i dont like to use flaps to describe how toggles effect the tarp, while they work similar they dont work exactly as they do on the anti gravity machine.

we unstitched the bottom part of mine then attached it 90 degrees to the riser. makes it super easy to grab. -
yea thats the one on parabatix

well, if your mom doesnt get "us" one maybe I can get you one.

hey a quick sail question..... with a hybrid, or full sail jvx, do you have to leave it unpacked, does it created "memory folds" i know it would make it super easy to pack. surely it doesnt cause a problem since its being used but is it noticeable? smizo

I've always known Maggot was an icon but now he has become a cult. I'm just happy I got see him flick with the forever banned nicknitro71 last night. And if you guys think Maggot is radical get a hold of this: Maggot, Nick and a third inexperienced jumper did a three way from 5K. Maggot jumping a RDS xaos 27 78, Nick his modified Alpha 99. Well they let the third jumper off at 3K. Then Nick grabbed Maggot and did not let him go until they passed 1.5K. Maggot pulled at approximately that altitude before he was able to get his hand out the pulled sweater sleeve and Nick burnt it to 800 before going for the main. The DZO wasn’t happy, Maggot, the devil himself wasn’t happy either. Nick had a 15 sec canopy ride and a decent swoop. Then they went for a sunset load at our local A where Maggot almost died one more time. Bottom line NickD is that with all your mumbling around there are sons of the nineties out there who instead of sitting on their asses they are pushing the line because that is the only way they know. If one day one of them goes in (very probable) you’ll be the first one pointing finger going “what a moron” or along those lines. It seems to me you are just a fading flame because you never burst hard enough to extinguish yourself when it was the right time to go

Safire II recovery arc at 1.4-1.45
cessna54tango replied to BlindBrick's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
one of the guys at our dz jumps a saf 2 about that wl and his recovery arc is extremly short. really short, we all comment on it. as soon as he is off the riser he is planing out. immediatly. i guess this can be good in some instances but not for him. he usually does a little over 90s from like 150-200 feet for nice swoops. its pretty low but like i said it planes out so fast. although lately hes been coming out too high. -
HAHA, 5?? yea, 5 today! pretty soon youll have clear cut all the way to the landing area! plus i also must add the boomstick designed by Smizo enterprizes inc. and NickNitro Rigging LLC, is going to work perfectly. I wonder if Nick would be my mentour in rigging so i can someday learn to build something with such high level of precesion, such perfection and quality as shown in the boomstick construction. demonstration pictures will be posted tomorow. later -smizo

Shameless plug for Joe B. & MEL.
cessna54tango replied to diablopilot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have had 2 of joes removable sliders. one for my 99xf2 and now for my 83 xaos 27. i had no problem with the way they packed at all, in both canopies. i had the whole rds system on both canopies. on the xf2 it made asolutly no difference on opeing wether at terminal or pull and plays. on the xaos it doesnt open bad at all just a little inconsistant. sometimes it opens beautifully sometimes slightly wild, but who knows, i could be cocked or something but anyways, i cant speak for mel cause i never talked to him but i talked to joe on numerous occasions and he returned my call every time. when ne built my xaos slider, he worked on it before he was going to go on vacation to have it out to me in 3 days after i called him! he sent it to me even before he recieved the check from me. i think this just goes to show what kind of people these guys are. so go ahead and get one anyone who is interested. -
i have a 83 xaos 27 and love it. opens great, even with the rds from terminal or pull and plays. that tarp flies like a champ, go ahead and custom order one

yea so there is was filming the exit. nick nailed the sit totally blind, in fact he hit it better than when he can see! anyways he backflips out of it and goes belly to earth, thats when i was gonna open my tarp so i could come down to him and film his canopy descent. well pitch, wait, nothing. look back expecting a lazy throw and to see the pc take off but there it is at full bridle extention just flapping away. nice. i reached back to try to grab the bridle and pull the pin hoping the uncocked pc would pull it out but couldnt reach in since it was a big rig and didnt fit me well, it was a few inches off my back at this point. so for my next trick i tried punching the container a few times but that was to no avail also. then we went to old silver. the rest happend pretty damn fast..... pulled silver, reserve came out. looked over shoulder as reserve is inflating to see main coming out behind me. cut away. ok right side good, shit, left still attached. not enough drag on main to release that side. grabbed the risers and yanked it off. now i have the cutaway handle in my right hand and the main by the risers in my left. hmmm, well its not trying to inflate, so no use dropping it here and risk the river so i carried it back to the dz. once overhead at about 1k i dropped it. there are diferent opinions on cutting away before reserve deployment in this case but i always told my self reserve first then cut away. if you do it the other way you risk the main coming off at the same time the reserve launches and a entanglement. so i fired the reserve looked for the main to come out behind then chopped it. it was quite entertaining. shitty my first reserve was on something that big so i couldnt swoop the shit outta my tempo 120! anyways yea if i looked at the pin i would have seen it wasnt cocked so i cant blame it on the packer, even though this was his second time, last he packed himself a line over. its all good! i guess the fact that i got a gear check from a blind guy in the plane didnt help either. a contributing factor was the 3 birds we killed in the morning on the runway with the motorcycle. instant carma! smizo

Discovery Channel Stunt Junkies
cessna54tango replied to cessna54tango's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
ok, at least he was flying a good tarp the base part kicked ass, the rocket assisted pilot chute extraction was pretty bad ass! but the swooping was lame. the fact that he landed in a 9x8 cage was pretty sweet, but the presentation was lame. thats what i was getting at. -

Gay. any of you guys catch this. this guy is trying to land his xaos in a shark cage. man its so lame. did you know that he's doing a 360 turn decreasing the angle of attack on the canopy making him create more speed and have a fast swoop landing. wow see what i learn on the discovery channel! gay.
