Where does the word boogie come from?
Marios replied to Marios's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was wondering what the word boogie means and how it evolved to mean what it means for skydivers. Anybody? -
Thanks Sammy. I think we exchanged a couple of emails a few months back. I will come and jump on my next trip.

Music - what reminds you of jumping?

Contact the AZ Training Center (AZ TC) down in Eloy. They will be able to help you with everything you need. Welcome back

Had an amazing time there during their last Easter Boogie. Great people to jump with. Great vibe. The views from up there are amazing. I would definitely go back when I have the chance.

I wish I could live there. I started jumping there. What to say. The people, the jumpers, the experience... Just awesome.

I am happy for you my friend. I jump a Silhouettel 190 too. How do you like those soft openings and landings? Stay safe!

Overseas canopy regulations and travelling
Marios replied to ianmdrennan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No specific regulations in Greece. An AAD is always a good idea anyways. If she needs something here in Greece tell her to contact me. -

1 jump Very important though. It was my second evaluation jump for the coach rating course. Everything went as not planned and I re-acted the correct way so I am officially a USPA coach since yesterday. They made a little ceremony for me and another friend who became a Static Line instructor. Beautiful! -
Had my first ever cut away this past weekend

Coach rating evaluation jump. Great!

Thank you for your good words. Here in Greece, I am worried if I am going to be able to satisfy the requirement of 15 coach jumps per year to keep my rating current. I hope.... -
Coach rating evaluation jump. Great!

Thanks and good luck my friend. Expect that the examiner is going to do nothing right. Play your role from the time the examiner puts his/her gear on. Be prepare to chase the examiner around. -
Coach rating evaluation jump. Great!
Marios replied to Marios's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yesterday I did the first of the two required evaluation jumps for the USPA Coach rating. The jump went something like this: On the ground the evaluator had routed her chest strap incorrectly and had her altimeter not 0 ed. Caught that on the ground. On exit she got on the step of the Cessna 172 without wearing her googles. I caught that as well. She gave me the wrong count twice and exited in a ball position going down really fast. I got close to her very quiclkly. For the rest of the jump she was just looking at me without doing anything from the plan. At break-off she did not wave off or do something so I turned, tracked and pulled high. Got on the ground getting her congratulations. Now all of this happened while I jumped at this DZ for the first time, first time out of a small Cessna (172) and while wearing my new suit for the first time. BEER BEER BEER! -
Skydiving in different countries?
Marios replied to Blassiter's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As of now I have jumped in the US, Cyprus, Greece and Italy with my USPA license. You should be fine in most of the world. When jumping in a BPA affiliated dropzone they will require that you purchase a BPA membership, not license though. -
What do you guys pay to jump at your DZ?
Marios replied to Philly215's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I BEAT YOU ALL!!! 40 euros. That is $53.79. That is what happens when you live in a European country where the sport is underdeveloped. That is out of a Caravan with the altitude varying from 10 to 13.5 thousand feet. I wonder what else I am going to do for this sport! -
Do you want a passenger or a tandem instructor?

Skydive Arezzo is a great place. Jumps are usually made from above 14000ft. Check it out http://www.skydivetortuga.com/

1st downsize from student canopy?
Marios replied to baseknut's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I bought a Silhouette 190 when I had around 70 jumps. Wing loading on that is 0.88. There is no rush for me to downsize to something smaller. I love the soft openings and the good landings. If there is one thing I am conservative about is my wing loading. Do not go to small. Choose something safe for you and learn your canopy really well. Cheers -
Welcome my friend!

What Made You Start Skydiving?
Marios replied to Kiakambala's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Saw it on TV when I was 8 or 9 and told my parents I wanted to do that. They said that I am crazy. When I was 20 and went to ASU to study there was the Arizona Outdoors Club going skydiving the second week of school with group prices. I did my first tandem at that time. My parents were not happy at all. I knew I had to return. A couple of years later I was with some friends in our motorcycle club and they said they were going skydiving in the weekend. That was my second tandem. My parents were not happy at all again. I knew I had to return. About a year later with some money saved up I started AFF. I think my parents hate me or something. I knew I was going to return almost every weekend. -
Where do I sign up?

Make sure you are using freefly friendly equipmnets. Get a ditter. Ask the freefliers in your dz to show you the sit-fly position on the ground. Do a bunch of solos trying to sit-fly. Make sure that you face in a direction perpendicular to the jump run. That is because you will be probably backsliding at the beginning, and you do not want to hit somebody who left the plane before or after you. Keep asking questions. When you feel more comfortable ask somebody to jump with you. Be honest about what you can do and can't do and keep in mind, safety first. Get somebody with a camera to jump with you so you can see your mistakes. Get some coaching. It helps a lot. Always stay on the safe side of things, ask questions and have fun. Oh and buy beer for those who help you...
