Skygod straight from AFF
georgerussia replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, and it seems like I answered this question: for me, "time in sport" alone, without considering other information, is the useless criteria. First, it is not clear how to measure time in sport - for example, I jumped rounds in 1996-1997, doing 20 static lines and 10 freefall jumps, got my license, and didn't jump before 2006, when I completed AFF and started jumping again. Technically I could say I have 11 years in sport, looking on it as "since the moment I did my first jump/got my first license". Or I could say I have three years as "the years I jumped". Or two years as "the years I made more than 5 jumps a year". Or even one year as "the years I jumped modern gear, and got experience applicable to modern parachuting". Include that there is a huge difference between telling the people you have 11 years in sport or one year in sport, and you'll see my problem with this definition. Which effect? What could you say about a person who claims to have 10 years in sport, and 600 jumps? Is he experienced enough to be AFFI? Could he safely jump 8-way? Is he even current? It is not possible to answer any of those questions without looking deeper into the logbook. Another question is - what is needed from AFFI? Previous experience with students, and their mistakes, positive thinking, good communication, and able to maneur as required in freefall. This way someone with people management traning, who has 500 belly jumps, has been a coach for six month, and did 100 coach jumps, may end up being much better AFFI than someone with 1,000 frefly or wingsuit jumps, not to mentioning time in sport. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Yes, people can argue on a lot of additional restrictions (just remembering the discussion during the Holiday boogie, when people arguing whether a 18 year old should be allowed to be AFFI). But the fact people argue about it still does not mean it is even an option. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
So how would you suggest to analyze this issue? We have an activity, which is considered dangerous by some people (like skiing, for example). We have parents allowing their children to do those things, which are considered dangerous. And now we have someone saying this should be a felony. I'm not talking only about skydiving. When we signed up our daughter into kung fu class (which is inherently dangerous activity as well), we had to sign exactly the same waivers as I signed for skydiving. Should it be a felony as well? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Even if we compare to tandem skydiving (which is statistically safer than general skydiving)? It depends on the angle you look on it. Strictly speaking, there is a lot of things which have no inherent benefit to a child. Transportation with his parents to the movies, or to the amusement park, for example - and this includes movies and amusement part itself as well. Not to mention activities like visiting McDonalds, which could be even considered harmful. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

"Time in sport" seems to be very vague criteria. How much "time in sport" has a person who did his first jump in 1990, got his license, and did 400 jumps till 2006? Is he more experienced than the guy who jumped one year, and did 800 jumps? And, if time in sport is really important for AFFI, why there are no such a requirement, like TMs have? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
Unless the government cuts up spending, therefore needing less money in taxes (which we all doubt), people will not stop bitching, as they will have to pay the same amount in taxes. I see no benefits in this model. But rich have a lot of ways to avoid this tax as well. For example, they could buy a 10 million yacht for $500 shown on papers. Or "rent" it abroad for 100 years for $20/year (again, on papers). Another concern is that very rich people do not spend a lot of money - i.e. if a person earns 100K/year, this person could spend 60-80% of their income. But if a person earns 100M/year, this person usually spends much less (in percentage) from their income. No matter how rich you are, you still could eat only limited amount of food, and could sleep in only one bed... * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

He cannot become AFFI just because he get a lot of jumps. He needs to pass the AFFI course, which include check dives. If he does - he is ready to be AFFI. If he doesn't - he is not. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
I still do not see the point. A 6 year old is also unable to appreciate and analyze the risk of riding his parents car - and the number of car-related fatalities is high. I'm not even talking about activities like riding a bike, going to kung-fu class, or even swimming in the backyard pool. Another problem is that every parent has to make decisions for their children. Some of those decisions are fatal, and almost every child injury or death _could_ be viewed as parents negligence. Like if a kid was shot in school, the parents could be accused of neglecting to work harder, so they could earn more and live in better neighborhood with better schools, where the kids weren't shot. Should it be a felony as well? If no, how could you make a difference? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

So we have our winner! Ok, so-called Jesus was gay, topic closed. Wow! You really had a point?!? Seriously?!? This must be a joke. Maybe, this works even better if you have a nice ass. Do you? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

That's not evidence, maybe you were just drunk. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

No, there is no problem with obesity. For vast majority of people everyone knows what the reason is, and everyone knows what to do. It is just a lot of people do not want to do anything. All they want is to get a magic pill you take on evening, go to bed, and wake up petite. People eat too much, and exercise too little. The rest is natural. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

A guy comes to a doctor, silently unzips his pants, and unleashes his 10 inches dick. The doctor comes close, takes a look but does not see any problems. So he asks the guy: "I see nothing unusual, what's the problem with your penis?" - No problem, doc, I'm just bragging about it. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I haven't seen Southpark before. Does it prove Jesus was gay? Did you see that you you have addressed NONE of my questions? And could you please check whether I asked you for a clue? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

This is the same in every Muslim state in Russia, expect Chechnya. The perversion of Islam is gaining strength because of Saudi money. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Well, there is no ANY historic support for Jesus existense as well. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Why are you so rude? You sound like you were ass-raped by an ugly, nasty faggot. Even your God does not judge a person before the Day of Judgement. Doesn't your Jesus teach everyone to spread love, especially to so-called "sinners"? You are casting stones; is your slate clean enough? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Different people have different definition of cheating. If my GF has sex with someone in front of me - it is not cheating. Most likely I would join them :P I just said it differently - if you have casual sex with someone, I wouldn't care. Just make sure you take a shower, I hate sloppy seconds. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Swoop Chords-Lesson Learned The Easy Way
georgerussia replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Safety and Training
I attached an elastic string parallel to swoop cord inside, which is about half of lenght. This way my swoop cords are always in tension, which makes it harder for them to catch anything. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
That's a nice one! Would be useful to see both horizontal and vertical speed, especially when you have canopy selector. Makes it easier to adjust it per-canopy basis :) But - good job man! * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
