  1. Then the amount requested is probably quite affordable. Russian militia also takes money, but if they search someone and find a gun (or even a single ammo) - that gonna cost some serious money. This works pretty well as law enforcement too - those who do not have extra 10K USD in cash nearby keep themselves away from guns, and those who have 10K in cash are not going to rob people for money on streets. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  2. Is this VERY strict law enforced? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  3. How is it relevant to discussion? Of course. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  4. It's already there - you just need to travel to parallel universe, and pick it up. Yet another silly statement. Of course he didn't, NRA would not pay for such conclusion. But the DATA he published confirms this conclusion, no matter what you think. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  5. Sorry, but I've learned from my mistakes, and now will not believe anything pro-gun lobby says without verification. I didn't say guns ARE illegal. I said "IF guns are illegal, then..." I should have probably used "were" there instead of "are", but "if" seems to be pretty obvious. Assumption "if the guns are banned" cannot be false by definition. A conclusion may be invalid, but you need to blame Kopel for that as it is his conclusion. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  6. No, I just want to verify your claim (which seems to be groundless, as usual, as you apparently didn't read the study yourself). Then it was a conclusion, not assumption. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  7. Why should I? You mentioned the study, it's your duty to prove the facts you claim it introduces. It is not assumption, the quoted part was taken directly from the article you posted the link to. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  8. It represents quite clearly what happens with the country when there is no enforceable gun control. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  9. The reason I asked it is because by manipulating with questions and samples it is possible (and most times very easy) to see whether the study was biased to achieve specific result. That is why a reference *about* the study is useless here. Actually it's not even obvious whether David Kopel read the study himself - i.e. he never indicates, even implicitly, that he did, and the way he presents the information from the study looks pretty much like a quote. A funny part is also implicit acknowledgment that gun ban works in reducing crime: "The only control that reduced crime was a strict penalty for carrying an illegal gun, which seemed to lower the robbery rate." So if guns are illegal, carrying any gun would be illegal, thus lowering the robbery rate :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  10. Do you have any references to the study? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  11. Considering the scenario when everyone is armed, a criminal doesn't have a choice anyway, so he might work it Brazilian way - shooting first, and then searching for money. A "gentler" way would be approaching victims in armed group. At least some countries full of guns (Brazil, Mexico, Somali) have a lot of violent crime, so arming most of the population or even everyone does not work as crime prevention solution. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  12. It depends. For example, if a football player wears expensive jewelry, a criminal would likely to go after him, and skip an old lady in a wheelchair. Even comparing only gun ownership, the situation is not as easy as you tried to suggest it is. For example, if none of them has a gun, but the criminal does, it makes no big difference to the criminal in his target selection. Same result if both of them have guns. If this was true, all the crime would be would be non-violent. While it is still possible to get hurt selling drugs or committing burglaries, the chance is significantly less than doing armed robberies. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  13. No need, I already understood how much your opinion worth. Will get me through Bay Bridge toll if I add extra $4. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  14. Interesting how people have no problems to make something up to apologize for, but have a problem apologizing for something they indeed said which was proven false. Speaks a lot about honesty and integrity of one's character though. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  15. As usual... claims, claims... and no proof. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  16. Your list includes only FOUR out of ten largest countries by population. It also includes Spain (#28), Canada (#36), Australia (#51) and so on. I will accept your apology. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  17. Actually translate.google.com can translate PDF documents too, so it is pretty simple to verify. Page 3, as I said. I will accept your apology. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  18. Well, again it was YOUR claim that the murder rate in Russia is higher than in U.S. If you were going to prove your point, you should have expected that I or someone else would ask you to provide official document, not just Wikipedia page anyone can change. Unfortunately for you, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Russia does not publish their statistics documents in English (which makes sense; I wonder whether FBI publishes statistics in Spanish?), so I even helped you in attempt to locate the needed document, and even pointed out the numbers. The fact that you implicitly suggest I am lying, even though you did not read the document (or just the simple Google translation check) yourself speaks pretty negatively about your own credibility as opponent. There are 100+ countries; YOUR graph only covered 9 "selected countries", so again your claim is pretty groundless. Still even this selection was enough to make your argument invalid. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  19. http://www.thestar.com/business/article/735096--geist-record-industry-faces-liability-over-infringement It is really funny to see that CRIA (Canada's version of RIAA) sponsored copyright law in Canada is being turned against them in a class action lawsuit. Gonna be interesting case. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  20. Because YOU compared murder rate in U.S. versus murder rate in Russia (even though your comparison was apples-versus-oranges because of the way statistics is collected) to argue my opinion that gun bans actually works (by saying that murder rate in Russia is higher than in U.S.) - but at the same time you failed to address another country introduced by your own reference - which was Brazil. The guns are not banned in Brazil, but apparently the murder rate there is much higher than in Russia, making your argument invalid. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  21. Well, it was valid comparison as you said it was "suicide by cop". It was necessary to elaborate, as he had a gun so he could, for example, commit suicide himself (more options this way). So far your only explanation why do you think it was suicide was "he is dead". Which, of course, is absurd - if all he wanted was to be dead, he could just shot himself. That's why I brought Cho, who also shot a bunch of people, and would likely to be shot by cops if he didn't shot himself - was it also "suicide by cop"? Apparently not, so your logic seems to be flawed here. And what about crime rate in Brazil with great gun ownership? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  22. Making up more "facts", don't you? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  23. Why does it matter? Cho is dead too. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  24. Doesn't look like a "cop suicide" to me, he was obviously shooting to kill (and actually killed a guard). * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  25. Guard killed, marshal injured in Las Vegas courthouse shooting What makes it significant is that shooting started despite having around obviously armed law enforcement officers. Therefore the pro-gun claim that "if everyone would conceal carry, the criminals would not even think about committing a crime with a gun" yet again seem to be invalid. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
