I'm a Christian, not a Catholic. Specifically a Lutheran, which, if you understand the history (and I assume you do just based on your intellect), you know that makes me not the best friend of the Catholic church. I'll buy that for a dollar Bill. And to Doug, no, I do not condone it, I missed the satire and viewed it as painting with a broad brush. Jeffs is a self-declared prophet. Big difference. Now, having said that - that is one of my issues with the LDS faith. I have a hard time with the idea that the boss man is a prophet and the "window to heaven." But most of the works of the mainstream LDS are very good for humnity as a whole. They do some good things...and their welfare program for members on hard times is stellar...the Fed should model it. Even the Union of Concerned Scientists data (which is unquestionably politically biased) has China surpassing us by about 2012. However, Their current data cannot be validated due to the restrictions that exist within China to outside scientific observations. Their data should reflect that variance. If it did - I assure you China's output would already exceed ours (which has begun to stabilize). Yet the US is universally attacked as the bad guy. That's bullshit. China is completely unregulated in every industry unless market forces dictate otherwise (Mattel). I'm not excusing our responsibility, but we acknowledge it as a country. Oh, I'm not angry - just amazed is all. The occasional reminder of the failings in our school system sometimes catches me off guard. And to clarify, the OP was to spark a debate on the proper venue for our personal national discourse. Not about the substance of said discourse. Well, I trust Gen. Petraeus. I can't say that about our elected officials. He has a particular insight into the nature of that conflict. His published doctrine is quite sound. My opinion overall, matches Jeanne's (she had a bulleted post a while back re: leave them to their own devices - that was spot on), however - I am a professional warrior - I go where the work is.
