California Assembly Passes Universal Health Care Bill
Lucky... replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
This might be a good thing. Maybe when people see how it works in California people will wise up and see it is not the euphoria that say it will be. Amen brother, then we'll go back to denying basic healthcare like we should be doing. -
As a civilised society we need to provide them with adequate food, shelter, hygiene and medical care. That is it. We should not have to pay for recreation or reading, nor should we ask gaurds to risk having these animals out of their cells where they could commit violent acts upon other cons or gaurds. Furthermore a murderer has permanently denied someone the opportunity to see his/her loved ones so while we should not brutally murder him in kind, the murderer should lose that right. His suggestion is perfectly reasonable If weact as inhumanely as the so-called garbage that are incarcerated, then we are that person. That doesn't mean HBO and ESPN, it means simple things like books, basic recreation, etc.

This is why Bush is president

>>>>>>>>See, the US Constitution does not forbid the death sentence. There is nothing, however, that prevents a state from forbidding it. Yet, anyway. The SCOTUS decided to bring us into the 20th century (not an error) a couple years back and forbade the execution of people for juvenile crimes. It's only time until we are thru with the rest on a national basis. Sorry, I know how Republicans love that stuff, really sorry you won;t have that. >>>>>>>>>Let us not make DP a legal question. Let us keep it what it really is - a political question What in the court system isn't political under the guise of judicial? YOU know what I'm talking about.
-
Not to mention the company we were within a couple years ago as we just then quit executing for juvenile crimes. We were 1 of 7 countries still doing so, Republic of COngo and the likes...... pathetic.
-
>>>>Problem with the DP is the cost. Either u think there have never been innocent people executed or you think it's no biggy. >>>>>>>>With all the legal safeguards it costs too damn much. Are you naive enough to think that there have never been innocent people executed? >>>>>>>>>>I'd say replace it with LWOP, but add hard labor to the mix. And waterboarding, bamboo under the nails and the occasional flogging to ensure the rightwing zealots feel satisfied. >>>>>>>>>>Either that or Supermax them all--the zero contact with the outside world confinement. NO comforts, other than food and a place to eat, sleep, and shit. No recreation, phone, visits, or mail. Fuck them-let them rot. Yea, retribution leading to revenge..... and we wonder why we have a violent society with guys like this advocating torure.

I dunno, could u imagine the 2000 Florida vote debacle, or most of the last 7 years being totally controlld by the Repukes? Look at the result. So yea, I could imagine it.

This would not be a typical situation. And with your party having fucked the country, I think the Senate and the coubtry would be tolerant of Hillary appointing Slick Willie..... I think it would be great.... he would do it for a couple years, quit and then add it to his resume.

I like that (and do consider myself closer to libertarian than anything). My experience is that most people do not fit in either box as defined by current political ideology. Not only that, but the definitions are constantly under revision to make them a good fit for people's agendas. They have almost done a complete switch since the early days of the founding of both parties. Liberty IS where it's at. All the other shit is political posturing; nurturing asswipes who think everybody should want to live just like them. >>>>>>>>>They have almost done a complete switch since the early days of the founding of both parties. Yes and no. Considering the Dems have been around since the foundation of the country and the Repubs not till the 1860's it's kind of a distant comparison. The Dems were somewhat the bad guys in a way, they owned slaves and IMO participated in some classism. The Repubs were obviously the party of the revolution to free slaves, etc. The Dems were the southerners who hated big government and loved state's rights. In the 1900's the Repubs, the GOP became the party of classism, the Dems assumed the role of the party that wanted to ensure fiscal stability. In the 1960's the Repubs became the party that assumed what the Dems were in the 1700's-1800's and they were against minority rights, so then LBJ signed the civil rights legislation in 64 which ran the yellow Dog Dems away from the left, since then we have only had 2 dem presidents. Look at th fiscal picture, the Dems were the tax-n-spenders, now they are the ones who balanced teh budget. The Repubs are the fiscal cut tax-n-spenders and no longer chant the idiocy they once did. Conclusion is that the parties have switched back and forth accross several tracks, not neccessarily just once.

Pardon me a second........ {PUKE, VOMIT} ...... ok, now all right, as in correct thinking people s/b libertarians? And social needs, well, fuck em, if they were only responsible. The biggest winers are those who advocate the abolition of social progs, Libertarians, and then need them themselves.

Really? Where? So all the folks mentioned in this Fox News article discussing the tipping point of oil are wrong? Working at Cirle K doesn't qualify as woking in the oil business Absolutely. You might try listening to someone actually "in the oil business", like some of the small independent oil producers.

Gearing up? By taking the debt from 5.5T and leaving it just under 10T? Leaving the world hating us? TRampling all over our const rights? Yea, great argument, how could anyone resist the rightwing nutjob party?

Semantics. And incorrect. Or at the very least, a purported "difference" that in fact - which is to say, in the absence of semantic gymnastics - is no genuine difference at all. People who don't believe in God, don't believe in God because they believe there is no God. Any other characterization is semantic claptrap. Atheism is not a belief; it is simply the absence of a particular form of belief. Not believing in God is atheism. "Believing" there is no God is...atheism. Now here's where people trot out the word "agnosticism". Spare me. Agnosticism doesn't really exist. The word "agnostic", distilled to its essence, is really just a safe harbor some atheists use to label themselves because they're afraid theists will think less of them if they call themselves atheists. >>>>>>>>>>>Now here's where people trot out the word "agnosticism". Spare me. Agnosticism doesn't really exist. The word "agnostic", distilled to its essence, is really just a safe harbor some atheists use to label themselves because they're afraid theists will think less of them if they call themselves atheists I couldn't disagree more. I was formerly an athiest, but then understood a little more aboutt he universe and the scientific model and realized that atheism or absolute believing in a god is ridiculous. I say we answer the easy questions like cancer and AIDS, then we go to origin and destony. To have faith in either evolution as a pathway from ape to man, or in creationsim as a majical creation of people from nothing are both fine, when you claim these are absolutes and there is no other way that is delluded. So for you to say that people like me are looking for a safe harbor is so far wrong it's inane at the least. What I think of and how I deal with the Gos puchers is to call them Jesus trash, not to say that private believers are that way, just the Jesus trash who aren't ok with me decididng not to believe or put faith is a diety, those are the trash. Your paragraph acts as tho there's a fear from people like me of the Jesus nuts, so I soft-shoe Atheism into Agnoticism - ridiculous. I call myself an Agnostic due to there not being enough evidence on either side, any side to place enough faith to feel confident that that is the destiny. I lean toward the scientific approach, hence Atheism, but I certainly place no strong faith in it. My take by you saying that Atheists are afraid of thumpers, is that you are trying to force a decision: THERE IS A GOD OR THERE ISN'T. Tells me which side you're from.
-
There is a huge difference between "cannot completely confirm" and there is absolutely no shred of evidence at all to even suggest that God exists or that there is life after death. The existence of God is disproven due to a lack of evidence. No, the lack of evidence doesn't disprove, just fails to prove, so it is inconclusive.

>>>>>>>>>>1) It's hearsay. hearsay is an out-of-court statement, used in court, to prove the truth of the matter asserted. The out of court statement? Jesus ascended and was resurrected. Well, the gospels need to say this IN court. By a person, which you refer to your following statements.

You could physically fit several times the 6.5 B people we have now, but the term is, "carrying capacity." CC is tehnumber of organisms an environment can sustain. IOW's, like Bill wrote, you would need landfills a few fields to grow things, etc..... Furthermore, when we were kids did they have smog issues other than LA, Chicago, etc? Now every city seems to have the perma-haze. I've read scientists put out CC at 9.5B, at which point we would have a hard time feeding them. Especially with energy being an issue, what if we had a hiccup, we could have major rioting which would, "adjust" the population to < the CC. We humans think we can add a little Jesus and fix everything, when other Nature rules.

I dislike the thinking that individualism is dead, but I also dislike the concept that it's all about individualism, AKA personal responsibility. That kind of thinking leads to the mentality that people who aren't fiscally fit can fuck themselves, very Darwinian concept from the moral right who denounces that thinking; quit a paradox. There is a happy medium and gross Capitaism misses it as well as Communism.
