Common folklore has it that WWII pulled us out, research shows us that Hoover's tax increase in 1932, his last year, and FDR's tax increases, New Deals, etc pulled us out. FDR took office in 1933, the unemp was 25% and teh GDP had fallen all 4 years of Hoover's presidency. The GDP grew and unemp fell every year FDR was president excpet 37-38ish when there was a recovery recession, but recovery resumed into the war which didn't start until 42 when FDR has several years of recovery. Recovery is measured by several indicators, esp GDP, Unemp rate and the market. Our involvement in WWII didn't start until 42, we did start moving ships to Europe in 40 sometime.
